Re: “Open Thread: Places to Catch a Bite During the Nashville Film Festival

Zyka Indian, albeit an unorthodox location (it's tucked inside Roma Pizza). I've been only once, for dinner, and it was the best Indian food (In Nashville) I've had in a while, maybe ever, and I've tried them all.

Food Company has great sandwiches if you have time to walk to Bandywood.

Firefly Grille in GH is a good choice...

Re: “First Bite: Murff’s Craft Brews and Burgers

I got off work early a few Fridays ago and decided to stop in for lunch so I could try some beer. I had the mini burgers (sliders) and they were excellent - hot & fresh, melty cheese, mustard, pickle and a soft dinner roll bun. I got the potato salad as a side and I would not do that again. It was a mushy mess that had to be eaten with a spoon featuring a few identifiable potato lumps. I work in Brentwood and it's great to see a non-chain go in there. The burgers and beer were definitely worth coming back for - I'll just be getting a different side next time.

Re: “The Sweet Spot: I Drank a Gas Station Milkshake

Ugh, scene = scent. That typo will haunt me forever.

I like your style, JohntheRevelator. (Like, since when is a funnel cake something you eat at a hockey game? Yet there they are, filling the Bridgestone Arena with the scene of their sugary, fried dough!)

Re: “Nashville a Top 10 Pizza Destination? I Had No Idea ...

In general, all pizza in Nashville is "over dressed" as compared to actually eating a pizza in Italy. But, I too like our style and given that I would choose City House.

Re: “Weekly Open Thread — Food Issue Edition: Where Do You Like to Dine With Best Friends?

Urban Grub, Epice, Table 3, The Southern, Etch, MCMH, Silo, and the list goes on. I personally like places where we can actually hear each other and where there aren't TVs.

"an emphasis on rotisserie cooking and locally sourced ingredients available for both dine-in and grab-and-go service."

So, rotisserie chickens from HG Hill around on Church served with locally grown french fries?

Re: “Weekly Open Thread — Food Issue Edition: Where Do You Like to Dine With Best Friends?

If you've a craving for Nawlins (because you've been or always wanted to), Holy Chow's Oyster PoBoy is the real deal--and it's packed with oysters fried to perfection--crispy and chewy at the same time/full of flavor. Try gumbo too! Not crowded, just right for an informal "Let's meet for lunch, buddy, (or girlfriend)" sort of place. Location is a trek for most (warehouse district by 100 Oaks) which means you don't have to deal with the "So good to see you, pull up a chair and join us" of a neighborhood joint. With a group, you can't beat The Pharmacy for burgers or wusrt, great selection of beers, or a phosphate; Dining in is ok, but out in the beer garden is for a picnic table full of best buds. The only downer is finding parking or having to wait; it's long past undiscovered.

Re: “Food for Thought: Which Nashville Restaurant Plays the Best (or Worst) Music?

Bakersfield has been blasting a lot of Drive-By Truckers. Sets a great tone for the restaurant.

We need an exposé on the dark underbelly of the funnel cake trade, Megan. Dark and sugary secrets abound.

Upstairs at City House. Last visit, there were seven of us and we were there for 2.5 hours. It's not loud like downstairs and everyone shared food so you got a little of everything.

Re: “Harris Teeter's Four Nashville Stores to Close; Three Will Reopen as Krogers

The HT/BookStar location was never the Sailmaker or Pargo's either to throw that closed place in the mix. Sailmaker was where Walgreens is located. Before BookStar it was the BM Theater.

I have loathed Krogers since I was a child and rode my bicycle there for my cat's favorite food.

Re: “400 Degrees Hot Chicken Opens Outpost in Antioch

Well A and C is much better. They actually marinate the chicken rather than slapping some hot chili on it and throwing it in the fryer.

Re: “Weekly Open Thread — Food Issue Edition: Where Do You Like to Dine With Best Friends?

Mexican, preferably on a patio. Nothing brings together a group of amigos quite like cheap margs and queso. My favorites are Five Points Cocina Mexicana, El Mariachi on Thompson Lane, El Jaliciense, and Tequila's in West Nashville. The $20 Top Shelf pitcher special on Sundays at El Mariachi is one of the best drink deals around.
