Re: “Swallow, Don't Spit: 'Oil Pulling' Is a Crime Against Food

Having no scientific evidences to the efficacy of a thing doesn't always mean it will not work. I have tried oil pulling for a month and I can attest that it works wonders. I have the worst sinus congestion ever and it was greatly reduced by oil pulling. I suggest you try it for yourself.

Re: “400 Degrees Hot Chicken Opens Outpost in Antioch

There are two sides to a coin and I would be curious to hear what the franchisee has to say on his/her side?

Re: “The Sweet Spot: Parliament Chocolate Bars

The best chocolate I ever had was a Guittard Hawaiian single estate bar. It was part of a tasting of single source chocolates, and I had the same experience--they were all so distinctive. It was just indescribable. If you run across one, snap it up. No, snap up all of them.

I went to this event last year, a disaster. Wait in long lines to get a tiny pour, no thanks

As if Nashville didn't already have a gentrification issue, now there is a Jeni-trification issue.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: There's No Food Like Snowed-In Food

@Tee Lee, I'm responding a little late, but thanks for sharing the Buzzfeed round-up of upsetting vintage recipes. But I actually think ham and banana hollandaise sounds OK. And the Jellied Tomato Refresher has beef bouillon in it, making it kind of like a jelly cocktail that is half bloody Mary, half Bull Shot.

Re: “Swallow, Don't Spit: 'Oil Pulling' Is a Crime Against Food

you're an idiot for writing this article and you obviously have no idea how oil works. Using an over the counter mouthwash is the real crime against humanity. They put alcohol, fluoride, and other toxic chemicals in those "mouthwashes". They destroy every bacteria, bad and GOOD. If you had any true knowledge of how the health of our mouth and teeth work than you would NEVER use an over the counter mouthwash.
Of course there's no "scientific" evidence of oil pulling. You think anyone would pay the FDA millions of dollars to try to prove this? For what? There's no financial gain.
It's time we start trusting our own instincts instead of these greedy businesses with our health. Yes, eat coconut oil as well, but after swishing it around my mouth allowing it to absorb some bacteria and toxins, I'm going to spit it out, thanks.

Re: “Jonas Stein's Annual Crawfish Boil This Sunday at The Stone Fox

Local foodie, the Chinese crawfish are the frozen, peeled tails. You're right, they're ubiquitous in gumbos, étouffées and the like. Fortunately, I don't think any body can fake a crawfish boil. Besides, they're in season right now.

People buy sandwich stuff in case they lose power? See, that's when I would just eat the entire box of Cap'n Crunch. Who needs milk??

Re: “Nashville Chefs to Shine at Charleston and Atlanta Food Fests

You underestimate my distaste for the drive to Atlanta. I'm in Louisville for the weekend, and I would certainly have ridden the MB for $6 vs. paying $25 a night to park at the hotel and never use my car. I'd much rather have 4 hours of peace, quiet and free internet than my own wheels. Unfortunately, the schedule and weather conditions made it impossible for this weekend. But I'm an evangelist. (I really do miss the Memphis service, though.)

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: There's No Food Like Snowed-In Food

I have been craving Dumplings, not chicken soup kind, but nice gyoza type. Tai Pai has been my go to in the last run to Kroger.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: There's No Food Like Snowed-In Food

For the first time ever I heeded the weather forecast warning, woke up early Sunday and hit Trader Joe's, Whole Foods and Kroger right when the opened. I shopped the same way I would have for any normal week. If I had lost power I would have been screwed. But I've basically spent the week stranded inside and cooking a ton. Pan pizza, roasted chicken thighs, roasted veg, biscuits, lots of stove top popcorn.

Consequently by not driving and not eating out I am way under on my weekly budget so that's fun.

Too bad. Probably explains why no one bothered answering the phone the time I tried to order from them...

Re: “Lawsuit: Shuttered Boca Loca Restaurant Owes $100,000 in Rent

Mr. Hayes seems to be overestimating the earning potential of this property. Excessively high tenant turnover is costly for the owner and slaps a stigma on the location that makes it harder each time a new tenant tries to break the losing streak.
Hey Larry- The. Rent. Is. Too. Damn. High!

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: There's No Food Like Snowed-In Food

The mass purchase of frozen food from the Harris Teeter sell-off turned out to be a good idea after all. Frozen tortellini, frozen sausage patties, frozen spinach. We're doing okay, so long as the weather clears before we have to eat the Hot Pockets.
