Re: “A Big Week for the Peg Leg Porker

Really excited about his restaurant. I have got to get myself to Memphis in May. It's a shame that I've never been!

Re: “Go Get a Goo Goo ... at Fontanel!

im really excited about this addition. for those of you who have not eaten at the restaurant please give it a try. its lovely and quiet but not fancy or expensive. i love the food there and they have a very nice quiet friendly happy hour. the trails are very pretty and shady and its a great place to take your dog friends! i really hope that this area continues to grow as a destination. i cant wait to see the new bed and breakfast that they are building that will be a design house prior to opening as a b and b.

Re: “Burger Republic to Open in the Gulch

I live very close to the original Burger Republic and frequent it quite often. The owner Drew is a really nice, friendly guy and I'm glad to see they're doing well enough to open a second location. I'm a big fan of their burgers and the beer selection is always tip top.

Re: “Look Sharp With Edges at Nashville Farmers' Market

Hone your knife constantly and you'll rarely need to grind new edges on them. This has more to do with a blade "holding" it's edge than anything.

Re: “More Local Chefs Added to Music City Eats Roster and Featured at Atlanta Wine & Food Festival

Just wish Nashville would have ticket options like Atlanta and Charleston have. With only having two, $275 and $500, I guess this festival is more for people coming into town or ones with some really good babysitters.

Re: “More Local Chefs Added to Music City Eats Roster and Featured at Atlanta Wine & Food Festival

Was this not clear enough, MC1?

"Tickets to the Tasting Tents run $100 for a one-day visit, or you can buy a full pass to the festival for $500 that includes admission to nine seminars, three days of tasting tents and the Pig Out: Tailgate Style event. As you can see, this puts the Music City Eats pricing pretty much in line with Atlanta and other similar festivals. When you consider that you receive three days of food, drink, information, entertainment and the chance to rub shoulders with so many of your favorite chefs in one place, either festival (or both) is a splurge well worth considering."

While these festivals are great for locals, and I hope lots of folks avail themselves of the opportunities, it's important that a big part of these events are as a travel destination for out-of-towners. I imagine that's one reason why the Nashville CVB has taken an active (and financial) participatory role in MCE. When I pay to attend a festival in another town, I consider the expense that it would cost to get essentially a weekend's worth of food and how difficult and expensive it would be for me to sample 20-30 different local chefs' food in all of their restaurants in another town. Then I make up my mind if it's worth the expense, and I hope others will take that under consideration before they just say it's ridiculously expensive. (Heck, it's only like 15 bowls of ramen. /ducks flying bowl)

Any article about Music City Eats should mention that, to attend, it costs between $275 and $500 per person.

Stones River Total Beverage in Murfreesboro and Divine Wine and Spirits in Smyrna both carry it regularly. Maybe you need to make a Rutherford County field trip!

do tell where you have been able to find it, i've never seen it in stock at any of the big places like midtown, frugal, or grace's.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread Proposes a Moratorium on Reclaimed Barnwood

I tried Humdingers recently too. I wasn't expecting to like it but I really liked that piri piri sauce. It's got some noticeable heat which I didn't expect but very tolerable if you can handle something like hot chicken. I substituted the rice for grilled zucchini. The Zucchini was really good as well. Interestingly enough, they sliced it length-wise, which was cool I guess.

I love a good rye, can't wait to try this. Too bad we can't get Rittenhouse regularly around here.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread Proposes a Moratorium on Reclaimed Barnwood

@37210:

All my teasing about reclaimed barnwood aside, I'm a big fan of Barista. In fact, I just came from there. And actually, I think it's one of the more aesthetically pleasing coffee houses in town, and it's actually fairly clean and minimal to my eyes. Of course, it helps that I'm a huge fan of Bryce McCloud's prints.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread Proposes a Moratorium on Reclaimed Barnwood

I hit up Humdingers last weekend, since it was one of the few places I could eat on my current diet. They gladly switched out the rice for another side, and the grilled sweet potatoes were huge and delicious. My rainbow trout was quite good, and my husband loved his amberjack. I couldn't try the piri-piri sauce, Ulika, because it had sugar in it unfortunately.

Reclaimed or horizontal wood or is the new wood paneling. Lesley is right, 10-20 years it will look very dated, it already does.
