Re: “Nashville Recap: ‘You’re Lookin’ at Country’

I am applauding this above Scarlett definition. Bootleg Disney Princess FTW.
Is that a comment-original or an older Spurgeonism I missed, Miranda?

I would have gone with "a crate of bruised fundraiser oranges" but bravo as usual, Ashley, always a pleasure.

Re: “Nashville Recap: ‘You’re Lookin’ at Country’

Once again, Luke was perfectly justified being angry at her (though his award comments were not cool) and Rayna was being awful yet he has to apologize and she comes out looking like an angel sigh... And I so hate the TV idea that prenups are a sign of disrespect/a lack of trust they are a smart idea and modern society certainly justifies it. I like Luke too, I didn't want to because he's the Deacon/Rayna Disposable Love Interest #27309 and that means he's supposed to be the jackass or cheat or get tossed aside but I can't help it, he's smart, nice, a good father and business savvy and he isn't awful like Deacon or Rayna are. (#TeamLuke, #TeamJuliette, #TeamLayla and #TeamZoey)

Scarlett, (the bootleg Disney Princess doll in your local drugstore) was actually kind of adorable this episode. Deacon too (minus the anti-Luke comments) and I liked the idea of them being com mentors along side the audience.

This episode was fun (again minus Rayna being terrible and Luke getting shit on) ...next episode looks like it is going to be a category five shit storm for me. Looking forward to it (if only for your review!)

Ray LeRoy, I agree with you completely that the show, script, acting, music etc is fantastic! But I think Ashley's commentary is also fantastic. It's poking fun at the characters, because they can be pretty darn dumb! Anyways, haven't you ever guilty-pleasure watched a show? It's all in good fun. We all secretly love ABC soap dramz.

Re: “Nashville Recap: ‘You’re Lookin’ at Country’

What the heck is wrong with you people ? I've been in Nashville for 27 years as a singer songwriter. I know something about the ins & outs of the music business. I also know human nature & the difference between a good show & a piece of crap. "Nashville" has done a lot to depict our city & our music business to a national audience. The earlier film of "Nashville" with Lily Tomlin, probably didn't depict exact reality, but it was a good movie & a good story with great acting.

Miss Spurgen, I don't know where you are from nor what part of Nashville culture you operate in, but your pervasive negative dissing is mean & elitist! The acting is good, the music is excellent, the screen play is well written & the story is riveting! So please come down from your ivory tower & walk the streets with the rest of us.

Sincerely,
Ray LeRoy Ankrom

Re: “'Beyond the Stereotyped South': Tamara Reynolds in NYT Photo Blog

Hi Dese and Dose. I grew up in Connecticut and lived in Brooklyn for ten years. I can say pretty confidently that no, it is not racist because being called a Yankee has nothing to do with race. You could call it "regionalist," I suppose, if you have to name it. It's my opinion that racism is not disliking another race or group of people; it's discriminating against a race of people who lack power on both an institutional and daily basis. Perhaps you'd get more calls back if you changed your attitude. You don't like being pigeon-holed because you're from the North; neither do the "yee haw" people you live among.

If there is anything that makes being a Northerner a bit uncomfortable in the South, it's people like you who insist on your own superiority.

Re: “Nashville Recap: ‘You’re Lookin’ at Country’

I SOLD ORANGES FOR MY HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING BAND. Oh Scarlett. She's also a Kringle we used to sell in Girl Scouts.

"Teen Juliette" (with her face morphed on a pubescent body) freaked me out. As did the weirdly augmented face of Teddy's escort girlfriend (Natasha?). She was NOT born with that nose. And perhaps chin. Whooo, Teddy got a freebie! I actually like horndog Teddy a lot better than mopey monk Teddy.

Where are Luke and Rayna's kids? Shouldn't Maddie be watching the show from the nunnery?

The Luke/Sadie (Ladie?) hookup they're hinting at really seemed forced. Is Pete going to be someone of note?

Are those Scarlett's real eyelashes? I have been wondering that since the show began. She makes me want to buy Latisse.

Re: “Dez Dickerson on Prince, Purple Rain, and the Most Insane Thing He's Seen on Stage

Great interview - a fine variety of questions and engaging responses from Dez. Nice work, both of you. The Prince and The Revolution era of purple music is both fascinating and mysterious. It's always fun to hear stories and details directly from those who were there. And, to anyone who doesn't follow Dez in the modern age, he is full of thoughtful and thought-provoking comments, ideas and observations. A unique and inspiring individual to say the least. Terrific read, guys.

Re: “'Beyond the Stereotyped South': Tamara Reynolds in NYT Photo Blog

Is it racist when a southerner calls you a damn yankee? I get called that constantly and I fucking hate it. Try hiring a yee haw contractor when you say "gimme an estimate on dat". They never return the call. They don't like whites here either. Those wit a funny axcent.

Re: “Movies About Writers as Miserable Pricks, In Honor of Listen Up Philip at Belcourt

And Jack Nicholson as a philandering journalist not unlike Carl Bernstein in HEARTBURN.

There were the not-very-positive caricatures of Clifford Odets and William Faulkner in BARTON FINK.

Re: “Nashville Recap: ‘I’m Coming Home to You’

I was pretty drunk last night and really don't remember any of this. I'll have to re-watch this evening. I "think" I can remember yelling "That's 3 Crow Bar back there!" but I could have been saying that from in front of Margot for all I know. Wednesday is a blur. This is the first week I've never had an opinion on 'Nashville' come Thursday morning. Great recap, though...as per uszh.

I was waiting for someone to say Factor V was fake so I could be like "NU-UH two people in my family have it" but thankfully you did your research, I should have never doubted you, keep on doing the Lord's work here

Re: “Nashville Recap: ‘I’m Coming Home to You’

The kid is Gunnar's dead brother's kid, right? And wow, Rayna couldn't squeeze in a single parent-teacher conference and takeout pizza night during TWO MONTHS on the road? She really is the worst.

Ashley, you continue to be the best thing about this crazy show.

Re: “UPDATE: Private Lives Tanks in Ratings, Still Puts Out Casting Call

First "shows" are always difficult to grasp when there are so many characters, and most of them, in "reality" shows, are blonde which adds to the confusion. I love a show like this when the husbands and especially the children are part of the focus because they are part of the drama...like it or not. I love wandering through the homes too. It definitely shapes the character of the individuals.
I hope that a second season is in the works. Erika and the twins were my favorites! Too much time was invested in this show to quit now.

Re: “Nashville Recap: ‘Nobody Said It Was Going to Be Easy’

I wish there was actually enough B roll for ABC to release an episode of the Will/Layla reality show on line.
