Re: “If the Tennessee Firearms Association Would Hold a Consistent Position for a Second, We'd all Appreciate It.

It's like shooting FISH in a barrel.

We have a GOP led legislature and have for a few years, a GOP executive branch, all these wonderful educational advancements, and we're keeping those pesky poor and old people from easy access to the polls so we can make Tennessee a GOP paradise. Where the hell's the jobs?
Must be that terrible Black Panther Muslim Kenyan Socialist Emperor-wanna-be Revolutionary dedicated to make the country all immigrants devil worshiper make our women have abortions pregnant or not Burqa wearing feminist communist community organizer Acorn advocate anti American anti constitution anti apple pie usurper of all things we like and cherish OBAMA's fault (????????????)!

Zoombah, why do you give us so many straight lines? Do you realize how hard it is for everybody to resist coming back with the obvious replies?

That can only mean one thing - that there's a lot of awfully messed up kids running around right now.

Re: “If the Tennessee Firearms Association Would Hold a Consistent Position for a Second, We'd all Appreciate It.

Not as egregious as my first, furtive reading indicated, but I still think constructions like this or "had had had" are inelegant. Why not set the clause off with a comma? "Winning, and winning as decisively as they have, did nothing to change that dynamic." How's that for speciousness and nit-picking?

Re: “Ferguson Has Happened Here

44:

I'm all for cameras on cops and cameras on dashboards of police cruisers (nevertheless, in one recent incident of alleged police brutality, the cop's on-body camera was switched off just before the incident occurred).

The Pentagon and Homeland Security Dept. can make billions available for MRAPs, helicopters and grenade launchers, but not a dollar for cameras.

Re: “#MayoralChatter: Will Howard Gentry Enter The Race?

Between him being a homophobe, and too weak to stand up for civil liberties in general, I don't see him getting much traction from progressives. But if big corporate money decided he was useful, he just might get purchased/installed as mayor.

Re: “The Metro Council's minority caucus comes out unanimously against Emily Evans' push to shrink the council

Of course this group is against a valid proposal. The last realignment of districts
gave them far more advantages than was originally proposed by more sensible
district lines. The current number of members was a compromise by the Charter
committee to satisfy a large number of individuals who would not support the
original charter otherwise.

Re: “#MayoralChatter: Will Howard Gentry Enter The Race?

Mr Gentry has been on a lucrative coast since being gone from Tenn State. As a
leading African-American vote getter, he might just want to play the role as
King maker to some other selected candidate.

Re: “Ferguson Has Happened Here

Is there any organizing going on here in Nashville, either in solidarity with Ferguson and/or focusing on related issues within our own community? If so, please share the information!

Re: “#MayoralChatter: Will Howard Gentry Enter The Race?

From my residency in Nashville, I believe that there are two essential components for any successful mayoral candidate; one, money, and two, a crackerjack political team closely entwined with a compellingly voluble public personality. Phil Bredesen had both the finances and techno-entrepreneur fix-it background to overshadow his would-be challengers and Bill Purcell had both the Team Purcell personnel AND charismatic personal to do likewise when he ran for the office as the former's successor.

My impressions of Mr. Gentry while living there was that, frankly, he lacked both components, and that the man is quite aware of still lacking such deep, deep inside, even now, as per the article piece. I'm certain that his ego is sufficiently sated enough to enjoy the would-you-ever? attention spurred on by the Scene online piece, while his body remains safe and sound fixated in a cushy, no-sweat county position as long as he wants it.

"Our unemployment rate is rising"

And Tennessee's unemployment rate has been nearly a point above the national average for a couple of years now. I thought all that pro-business legislation, like tort reform, was supposed to create jobs.
