Re: “Charter Schools Enter Fray in East Nashville Plan

You are correct, Diatribean. The one charter I have the most familiarity with, Liberty Collegiate, instructed students how they were to sit in class, comfort not considered, gave demerits for the most benign (IMHO) of infractions, forbade ANY talking in the halls, at lunch, or on the bus. Those measures eventually drove my grandchild away (I had no input in the decision to send her). The academics were good, but she finds her enrollment in a Magnet School just as challenging, without the adherence to uniformity in dress.
As I understand in talking to others whose child (or grandchild) attend different charters, often such draconian (IMHO) measures are repeated.

Re: “The Front of the Book: Why Metro Schools Are Failing, Ad Wars, and Two Pee Wees

Considering desJarlais' abhorrent past and apparent hypocritical arrogance when confronted with it, I have little problem with her attacking from this direction. Of course I have a particular dislike for the bastard not only for his politics but for his attempts to minimize the destruction he has wrought in his personal indiscretions. Asking for forgiveness does NOT grant one immunity from condemnation, even though given his public stance, he assumes so.

Re: “Charter Schools Enter Fray in East Nashville Plan

Mark Mays - you mention up above that charters don't automatically address the issue of safe schools for students. I am under the impression you are wrong. That is, my understanding is that charter schools take a hardline on behavioral and discipline issues. So much so that there are those that accuse charter schools of dismissing from school without good reason.

Am I incorrect? I have some anecdotal evidence to reinforce my belief. You?

Please don't couch your answer on the word "automatically."

Re: “Charter Schools Enter Fray in East Nashville Plan

Mark Mays - you missed the point. Education is for all. If the top group is ignored, under-represented, or does not have its needs met, the people in that group will (if we are lucky) agitate for appropriate learning resources or (if we are not) leave the school district. I wonder if anyone's had any experience with that before?

I specifically stated that it was the language used (achievement gap) that I objected to, and I expressed why. It is likely that we agree on most substance.

No one said "Oh, the rising tide will lift all boats" until you did.

Re: “Report: Secret Service Asked Metro Cops to Fake A Warrant

Given that MOST police usually do their job with some degree of integrity, it is NEVER "bigoted" nor "hate" filled to hold them to the highest of standards and condemn in the strongest of terms when they violate such. The sad reality is when an entity has such powers as the police do, coupled with a track record of tragedy perpetuated by over zealous officers, it is NOT unreasonable to react as AnglRdr did.
YOUR name calling and pointedly hate filled retorts are somewhat beneath reason and frankly worthy of the yoyo and his minions. Any semblance of civility you offered in the past has in recent posts been eradicated by this demonstration of juvenile execration. Considering who offers this assessment can only add to your censure.

"The word "alternative" when applied to newspapers is usually something out of" the ordinary (see definition), obvious moost sockpuppet. Given you have NOTHING in common with that which was offered via "The Metropulse", it is reasonable that you have little knowledge of it's content, but it's intent as described is rather obvious. Sorry, it evades you.

Re: “Charter Schools Enter Fray in East Nashville Plan

@Diatribean!!

Why make it a zero sum game when it doesn't have to be? I'd wager those ENnotU parents don't see it that way. Not quite sure how you could interpret my expression of what African American public school parents are concerned about to indicate I was interested in something that depresses the learning experience of one group over another.

When you are at the top, say in that 99.99% percentile we all shoot for on our bubble sheet tests, the distance between where you are and the top seems quite small, Spock might say infinitesimally so. So, as a practical matter, your top .01% student loses nothing if a school board allocates a wee bit more resources to gather up those who don't perform as well. Those resources do not have to come at the expense of the .01% either.

If we just say, "Oh, the rising tide will lift all boats," we might forget that the boat doesn't stop in some neighborhoods.

@Ghost of (a chance in hell of making sense): shockingly po Black folks write and have written for this very paper. I'm sure your brain just exploded. And I guess you're addressing me with the "race was brought into the conversation" stuff. Well, it was already there, I just put a name on it. I don't know why you lot take to the fainting couch whenever "race is brought into the conversation."

Being brain dead -- with a walker credit and my red self to prove it -- I am incapable of "rhetorically dominating" anyone, but I always declare myself the winner anyway and Mama buys me a new Hot Wheels.

You really stepped up your game that time, yoyo. The baloney sandwich stuff was hilarious. I can't wait to see what comes next. How about anther Walking Dead reference. That really killed.

Re: “As Nashville's immigrant population grows, Metro public schools are straining at the seams

Remember when yoyo would publish all his racist screeds under the name yoyo moi? What happened to that? Did he tire of the infamy? He used to revel and preen in being a pariah. I guess he must have gotten his feelings hurt. (Who would be so cruel?) It would suck to always be the geek in the crowd. Should you expect anything different though when you devote your life to being a troll?

The word "alternative" when applied to newspapers is usually something out of Orwell. Take the Nashville Scene -- what is it an alternative to?

Re: “Metro Pulse Dissolved After 23 Years

The business plan of obsessive Campfield chasing, ironic history pieces, and love for Americana music apparently wasn't a success. Never meant a reporter who understood accounting or business. Interesting that the only thing that makes dying old media look healthy is wheezing urban alternative media coughing up pithy irony pieces. Suburbia culture is winning. Cas Walker and his people have won.
