Re: “Can Someone Please Stop Gov. Haslam From Writing Letters?

As one "white person taking to my fainting couch" over the lack of immunization records and disease screening of our state's newest residents, I would simply like to point out that raising this concern is not "fearmongering". There are, in fact, published studies regarding the various diseases sometimes present in Latin American populations which are uncommon in the traditional U. S. population. Additionally, these children need to provide the school systems with records of their immunizations or refusals, as the immigrant children could be at risk for contracting chicken pox, polio, or another of the host of diseases to which most American children are immune. http://m.cid.oxfordjournals.org/content/34/12/1627.long

Von Praginstein,

I know you have not read the New Yorker article; you may have read it at work but since I just got it today, I doubt it. I admit you work somewhere you could be reading rather than working but I don't know where you work. I do know we have slackers on this board.

You seem eager and young so you have not read it. IE, IMO.

"Immigrants are this century's darkies. No one clamors for building a fence along the Canadian border -- where our neighbors are white."
This guy wins for stupidest comment of the year. It must have escaped his notice that we don't have Canadians overrunning our border.
I have to say, as stupid as this comment is, it is probably more intelligent than most of the libs commenting here. The only reason they are in favor of illegal aliens is because the illegals are perfect liberal voters: uneducated, on the dole and lawbreakers.

Re: “Can Someone Please Stop Gov. Haslam From Writing Letters?

You're off-topic here, john. You're also being redundant since you posted this in another thread.

Since you are posting twice, I'll be glad to explain the difference to you one more time.

You are using the phrase "female woman", which is redundant.

I suspect the concept you are trying to convey is "feminine".

Re: “The Daily Links: Israeli Intelligence and The Greatest Story Never Told

Yoyo is right about Dodd-Frank.

David Stockman and some others are coming to town an will discuss Corporatism and Capitalism. The usual suspects should go and try to learn something. I would think there is some common ground here.

Recall the strong central government/big corporations and what followed in Germany. National Socialism, Nazism. History has never been the forte' of the left has it?

Re: “The Daily Links: Israeli Intelligence and The Greatest Story Never Told

I am posting this again.

This is as good a time/place as any. The female woman.

Being a respected poster here I have, on occasion, used the term "female woman."

There has been some dismay expressed, but dismissed by me as the usual squalid liberal carping.

Read this week's NEW YORKER article, "What is a Woman." Get back to me on this.

Re: “The Daily Links: Israeli Intelligence and The Greatest Story Never Told

You didn't even read the link you provided.

"HAYES: Well, certainly he is. I mean, he was not only late in recognizing the problem, he did many things, perhaps with good intentions, to help create the problem. He was pushing lax lending standards. He was doing all the kinds of things that set the stage for private entities to try to come in and try to compete with Fannie and Freddie in a way that I think led to the financial crisis of 2008. There's a moment in Gretchen Morgenson's book Reckless Endangerment where she describes a reporter going up to Barney Frank after a speech in March of 2005 and asking the questions, you know, what about the possibility that you may be pushing people into mortgages that they can't afford and what would the consequences be, and he said rather flippantly, as he was wont to do, we'll deal with that problem if it happens. Well, this is the kind of legislating with the best of intentions and not thinking of the long-term consequences that will make the first line in Barney Frank's political epitaph be the housing crisis."

I repeat part of that last sentence: "...not thinking of the long-term consequences..." Liberals seldom think of the long term consequences. The banks played with the cards they were dealt. Barney Frank and Chris Dodd stacked the deck.

Re: “Can Someone Please Stop Gov. Haslam From Writing Letters?

CallMeAHater,

These "illegal" kids are turning themselves in to authorities at the borders. They're *refugees.* They're being treated as the law -- and human decency -- requires.

If "conservatives" (and I use the term loosely here) keep getting called haters, then maybe it's time to look in the mirror.

If you want to send refugee children back to almost certain death, you don't "love your fellow human beings."

Re: “Can Someone Please Stop Gov. Haslam From Writing Letters?

CMAH, you don't have any need to explain. Your love for your fellow human beings is clearly obvious from your post. It oozes forth, not unlike pus from an infected wound.

What is happening now is that we are following the law making it illegal to deport alien kids from non-contiguous countries. I'm sure you remember this is the law pushed for by George W. Bush.

If you want America to have different immigration laws, then vent your wrath on John Boehner and the Repubs in Congress who are blocking them.

Re: “Can Someone Please Stop Gov. Haslam From Writing Letters?

OK. You're a hater. I really wasn't planning to tell you so, but since you asked for it, you can have it. And well deserved, too. Glad you recognize yourself in the mirror, hater. It's no smokescreen; it's just what you right-wingers are. No one has refined hate to the degree that the hardcore racist teabagger/dittoheads spout every minute of every day.

Actually, notguilty, President Obama got more votes, period.

Lydia Peelle was a speechwriter for Governor Bredesen, and she was a good one. She is also a published author. But the letters were written by Bill Mason, who did the same for Vice President Gore for many years. He was good, too; also a published author. But you are right; their level of skill and professionalism seems to be absent in Haslam's office. The Governor should seek out some better quality help.

Or maybe learn to write himself. As did Bredesen, Gore, and Lamar Alexander.

Re: “Cooper Makes a Cameo in John Oliver Segment on Nukes

Jim - I'm not sure what was humorous in JohntheRevelator's response that I missed. His response is symptomatic of certain mindset - he doesn't seek to understand or know anything outside his worldview; he attacks someone in his first dialogue with that person, and that attack is at once off-point, non-responsive, not germane, as well as low-minded and divisive. In short he is a poster-boy for basement-dwelling hack.

I thought praying for someone was taking the high road.

Why would I know who John Oliver is? I watch little t.v. Some food network or hgtv to pass the time. Netflix for series and movies. HBO has only 44 million subscribers; I don't frequent Salon.com or Vox or wherever tools like JTR congregate (except here, apparently). Anyway, I know who Oliver is now, and am grateful for the responses.

Here's a quiz: Do you know who Radley Balko is? Glenn Reynolds? Iowahawk? PJ O'Rourke? Adam Corrola? Charles Krauthammer? Jim Geraghty? Not all conservatives, by the way. No hateful recriminations if you answer in the negative, either.
