Re: “Haslam to call special session on Medicaid expansion

modern republicans are without a doubt the dumbest people who have ever lived.

and i say that as one who was registered GOP from '96 - '04 and thinks the Dems are pretty embarrassing on the whole.

but yeah. seriously the most offensively stupid people in history.

Re: “Obama Haters Waste No Time Opposing Haslam's Medicaid Plan

"Medicaid expansion ought to be a no-brainer. It would insure tens of thousands of Tennesseans and add billions of dollars to our health care system. "

I hope so. I think the really low income limit is terrible. Why not expand it to every single person who cannot get insurance through their employer?

Re: “Obama Haters Waste No Time Opposing Haslam's Medicaid Plan

Any Republican legislator that does not want a challenge from the right in the next election cycle cannot vote for this plan. The Charles Sargent, Ferrell Haile and David Alexander type Republican who may be inclined to vote for this plan will be crucified by AFP and the Beacon Center nut jobs. They will be called sellouts to Obamacare. The campaign ads will write themselves. It will come down to whether legislators want to do what's right for the state and the health of its citizens, or whether they want to get reelected. You may not like what I wrote, but anyone that knows politics in this state knows its true.

Re: “Hot Probs: The Baffling 'No Problem' Etiquette Question

I am not a kid--even my kid isn't a kid.

"No problem whatsoever" tends to be my go-to "you're welcome," when someone thanks me for doing something I was happy to do. Or "that is what I live for" if it is in relation to my job.

Proper etiquette isn't necessarily about the specific words that are said, but rather the feeling that is conveyed in them.

(Also, it's rude to raise a five year old blog post from the dead.)

Re: “Eric Garner Protest Stops Traffic, Onlookers From Broadway to Gulch

@ Jim

Yeah, that was my fault with the typo. I know the difference between a strangle and a choke (oddly, the rear-naked choke is actually a strangle), but I think we're fully in agreement on this one, so carry on and apologies for the typo!

Re: “Eric Garner Protest Stops Traffic, Onlookers From Broadway to Gulch

Well.....a choke hold cuts off air, a carotid restraint cuts off the blood to the brain. Considering you being all over the place with your original post I judged you were NOT so well informed. I sometimes do the same, meds and all!

Re: “Hot Probs: The Baffling 'No Problem' Etiquette Question

Maybe it doesn't bother the author - but, I find "No problem" to be very rude. If you'll notice, kids usually say it with the same facial expression and intonation as when they say "Whateverrrr".

Rarely do they smile when saying, "No problem" - leading one to conclude they're thinking, "Well, I'll let it go THIS time, but you owe me one - or whateverrr". Sometimes I feel like telling them, "I KNOW it wasn't a problem - it's your JOB!".

Proper etiquette is "My pleasure". It's hard to say it without smiling - and more than telling the other person "It wasn't a problem" (which is just a neutral response) - "My pleasure" tells them you are HAPPY to be of service to them (a big positive in my book).

I know - kids reading this will just go "Whut?" - to which I say, "Whateverrr".

Re: “Metro Police: Officer Shot, Teenage Gunman Killed After Sunday Night Shootout

I don't know anyone who does not wish the officer well. Emmett Fatass and yoyogastray are simply blowing dog whistles to get a rise and denigrate righteous protest over Staten Island and Ferguson!

Re: “Haslam to call special session on Medicaid expansion

Medicaid, not Medicare. Medicare is exclusively a federal program.

And Georgia did not expand Medicaid.

Re: “Haslam to call special session on Medicaid expansion

Some in Tennessee are blaming the Medicare failure for the financial troubles of hospitals, but a USAToday article last month found the struggles were happening in all states. Georgia (A medicare expansion recipient) was very hard hit.

Re: “Metro Police: Officer Shot, Teenage Gunman Killed After Sunday Night Shootout

This is a problem for all of us..........homes, schools ,communities and churches....And it is not enough to just pass it off as Antioch....Many people consider Antioch as a kill zone...Instead of doing anything they want change the name of every pig path, to ridges, crossing, mountain views and plaza....Some want to make it a DMZ......We all should help.....Your American Dream is what you Make it{and info on how}....and Those Med students laying out in the street...Should set camp and checkout sick people...HELP is NEEDED....At least American have been allow toDREAM

Re: “Haslam to call special session on Medicaid expansion

Not just rural hospitals. I hear that Vanderbilt estimates they lost $70 million because Tennessee didn't expand Medicaid, which was a prime reason for all those job cuts.

Re: “Metro Police: Officer Shot, Teenage Gunman Killed After Sunday Night Shootout

Has there been a rash of people killing unarmed cops and then not being indicted for it?

It's not as if there is already a separate set of charges that can be levied for causing harm to a police officer or anything already. Oh wait...

Re: “Haslam to call special session on Medicaid expansion

Exactly--I am sure there are many rural hospitals across the state that are treading water, and who would stand to benefit from an infusion of newly-insured patients to whom they're already providing health care. At least they would now be able to receive some remuneration for it.

At least for those up to 138% of FPL. There is still no way this gets a waiver from the feds.

There are probably enough in the districts of those clowns who would benefit and are likely asking for some relief.

Ah, my mistake. That's a typo.

Anybody who calls it a "headlock" is a liar or ignorant or both. I'll try and edit it.
