Re: “Love/Hate Mail

Growth is annoying and uncomfortable, but is, as we all know, an inevitable outcome when one is labeled "It City". Everyone wants to be here, to hang out and party here, and to oftentimes move here. We all know this. And with it comes all the creative types, the musicians, artists, writers and chefs (I wish we had more architects!!), and also the entrpreneurial folks, who will make money off the influx and help our city stay solvent and even wealthy. That helps everyone. We all get it. But still, it's annoying. And listening to bridal shower party goers scream their brains out while pedaling those contraptions is painful. Their money is building our city. Maybe they could make a peddle-bar loop or something?

Re: “Love/Hate Mail

Pedal taverns are a huge tourist attraction in Nashville, (Tourist not local (though I might do one for the hell of it one day, why not)) and people spend good money on them which perks our economy. We live in a Tourist town and Tourist attractions like the peddle taverns, the horse drawn drawn carridges, and the golf carts are all supplimenting the tourist economy and paying for the new roads and parks and public everything you love about Nashville. Instead of us being so damn stingy about tourist we should be grateful. Because Nashville wouldn't be the Nashville we love today with out it. (And seriously its easier and cheaper if you live down town to get in a uber to your destination (and seriously if you're complaing about getting to your destination 30 seconds later than you already where, you are already late by something of your own making and your hunting for a scape goat of an excuse of your tardiness) More taverns more economy better Nashville.

Are all of you complainers part of the fire brigade? Do you drive an ambulance? If you answer no, then quit your bitching about losing 30 seconds of your life.

I don't mind pedal taverns being here, but wish they, the golf carts, and the horse-and-buggy drivers were restricted to streets that have passing lanes.

Re: “Love/Hate Mail

Pedal taverns block traffic all the time, but are especially bad during the times just before concerts & sports events when we drivers are trying to reach our target venue before the event begins. They should be banned on any street within 10 blocks of these venues on event nights.

I completely agree about the Pedal Taverns. I don't get it.

Re: “Love/Hate Mail

People who are members of the NRA may be OK as people, but the organization is a fear mongering one with lots of money to spend on campaigns for the folks that want to allow anyone to take any sort of gun anywhere they please. Sorry, but the US has the highest murder/suicide by gun rate in the civilized world and easy access to guns is the reason why.

Re: “Love/Hate Mail

Loved your Dale and Assoc. cartoon. While Mayor Dean and the Planning Commission are busy thinking of themselves as progressive bastions of the New South, they may want to explain why they take marching orders from a low-grade engineer who once had his license to practice suspended. Thasrite, Roy Dale himself, when he wasn't busy gay-bashing, juggling many wives and having protective orders issued against him, managed to have his engineering license suspended by the state. That would be the same Roy Dale who the so-called Planning Commission, as constituted by our Mayor and led by Rick "Tall and (Not So) Skinny" Bernhardt, now use for de facto policy and aesthetic guidance for our city. That would be the same Roy Dale who doesn't even live within the Urban Services district. Oh, the humanity!

May 11, 2015

Hello to friends in Music City,

We live in Jacksonville, Florida and thoroughly enjoy our visits to Nashville, where our daughter is a resident. In staying at her apartment (and also once at the Scarritt-Bennett Center nearby), we have had many nights of sleep disrupted by loud sirens. Compared to our living near a fire and rescue station, Nashville’s emergency noise is noticeably louder and more frequent.

We all agree that emergency vehicles absolutely need roadway priority to ensure safe and rapid passage from beginning of each service call through to safe arrival at destination. That is of paramount concern.

However, it seems that in the very late night and early morning hours in Nashville, those vehicles run with full sirens continuously engaged, even when there is virtually no traffic on the roadways. This sometimes occurs with two vehicles traveling together, both having sirens 100% engaged.

In some cities, emergency vehicles ‘run silent’ unless they are in traffic or are approaching an intersection into which they need safe passage against the traffic light. There are alternative sounds which can be used in place of full out sirens to get necessary attention as needed. The airhorn wave, hilo wave, piercer wave, police wave and wail wave could be used at the discretion of the driver when necessary without having a continuous siren engaged, especially judicious use of the airhorn wave.

Again, anyone’s priority is and always should be for the fastest and safest emergency transport. But if it is possible, within that context, to provide relief to people who live in the vicinities of heavily travelled routes for emergency vehicles by modifying the noise patterns at night, it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Pat Lewis
Jacksonville FL

Re: “Love/Hate Mail

Betty Nixon, that may be what Regions's letter was saying, but that doesn't make them correct. I know you were busy at the time with the medical crisis, but afterward you should have pursued legal remedies. I am no lawyer, but considering how many lawyers you did consult who initially said that their response was nonsense, it is very likely that you would have prevailed.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the chain of command was merely covering for each other in a knee-jerk fashion without referring the matter to their legal department.

Here's what the activities of the Social Club will look like to those who aren't members:

Some people drive into the parking lot, park their cars, and get out.
They go into the building.
Later, they come out, get into their cars, and go home.

That's pretty much it.

The Social Club has it's own security people to keep the area safe from any untoward activities.

Re: “Love/Hate Mail

I suspect the social club will be an evening affair that will just appear to be an unoccupied building to your students.

Dear Beth,

(S)ex offenders, pedophiles and sexual deviants have rights, too. Just like you. If they follow the law, they get to do damn well what they please.

Think about that.

With our attention span rapidly decreasing, it is best to keep any article short and to the point, not rambling on and on about issues that may, at best, only concern a handful of people. Stick to the K.I.S.S. rule at all times ! (Keep It Simple Stupid) :-)

Jim Ridley wrote in 1989: "The state of film reviewing these days is sad indeed, and I appreciate any attempt to change it."

Of course, things have gotten much worse since then, if you want to be paid to write about movies. Entertainment Weekly's sacking of Owen Gleiberman was more bad news.

Re: “Love/Hate Mail, May 1, 2014

My daughter and her 2 friends went down to Nashville for the concert this week. They saved their money all year. My daughter works 2 part time jobs, babysits and goes to school fulltime, she has worked very hard saving her money and besides that making a car payment. Well the Hotel their staying in housekeeping came in while they were out for breakfast and when the girls came back they realized their jewelry and expensive make up were stolen and the hotel is not doing anything. They filed a police report, but we know nothing will be returned. When they woke up this morning their door was open, they do not feel safe in this Hotel anymore and I also don’t feel they are safe because they filed a report against the hotel and housekeeping. This was the only Hotel they could afford, since the nights of the concert the Hotel room rates go up very high, we are looking to move them. We don’t know if there are any Hotel rooms out there and how much they are, but I wanted to let you know their story since this is their first trip away and they are very upset and worried. Just wanted to let everyone know don't leave any expensive things in your hotel room.

Just wanted to know if Ms. Britt Byrd was avaiable for a date? I will gladly take her on a picnic
lunch she will remember for the rest of her life. Have her go to downtown library, and ask for
Doc Wood.
