Schools are going to be as strong as the community around them. Its on the parents. We are half way to 3 hots and cot with some of these public schools.

Re: “Register: Churchwell Can Turn Itself Around With District Support

Up is down.

"Parents at the open Q&A said they want more tools for being effectively involved in their child’s education and know what standards their children have to master, and see leaders from their school come out to the homes of struggling students."

"we don’t do a very good job of getting parents engaged in what’s going on in school"

We've come to the point where public schools must cater to and educate parents about making school a priority for their children.

-------
I will say that the revolving door for principal and teachers is a disgrace. Here's a thought - retention bonuses.

Re: “The Southern Baptists Build Themselves a Giant Loophole, Decline to Step Through It Yet

"You're born sinful."
Why yes, some denominations do believe so...and some do emphasize the admonitions against homosexuality as a sin in the OT. But then again, so is divorce except in some narrowly prescribed instances (Matthew 5.31; Mark 10.2-9). If we recognize the basic rights of divorcees then why not homosexuals? It's still a sin, but it's their right to commit it, just like we allow divorce.
It's between the sinner and his or her almighty...the rest of us need to withdraw our noses.

Re: “The Southern Baptists Build Themselves a Giant Loophole, Decline to Step Through It Yet

You mean how Baptists and other gay-bashing avowed Christians IGNORE divorce and adultery?
"I hate divorce, says the Lord" Malachi 2:16. Not ONE verse says "I hate gays" does it?

Funny how even after prominent TV preacher and former SBC President Charles Stanley got divorced, you could still find his books and crap for sale--prominently pushed and promoted. I guess mammon is still the god at Lifeway Bookstores.

"Woe unto you....hypocrites...." Matthew 23:1ff

The concept of a "museum magnet" is the worst example of an idea looking for a problem. It never made sense. Either there was a local museum looking to get into education funds or someone thought it was wrong to base too many charters on viable concepts like STEM or academic excellence.

@AnglRdr: Obama's first policy was to let ebola into the country so that it can be cured in Africa. That made perfect sense to him.

Teachers are not as Priests. They have taken no holy vow to GOD!
Somehow to me, that makes a difference.

Re: “Tennessee, We're Politically Apathetic

Diabribean, I have heard the Catholic talking point about teacher abuse in public schools, but public school teachers who abuse children have, for years, ended up on the 5 p.m. news, in court facing criminal changes, and often behind bars.

They are also fired and not rehired.

Whereas the Catholic Church hierarchy used the church's canon law system to cover up for priests, sent them to the equivalent of rest camp, and foisted them off on other unsuspecting parishes, where they repeated their misdeeds. When confronted by parents, they used their religious authority to quell reports to outside authorities.

Only when adults victims became educated enough to know that what they had endured at the hands of priests was abuse and came forward was the church forced to do anything, and then it engaged in a campaign of misinformation, asserting that the abusive priests were homosexuals (when lots of the abuse was heterosexual, and despite the fact that homosexuality and pedophilia are two very different proclivities).

The Church did not acquit itself honestly or honorably in the abuse scandals, and its members have paid/are paying a very high price for that, including having churches and other facilities shut down to pay legal costs and settlements.
