Re: “Wild West Comedy Festival to Feature Marc Maron, Bill Burr, @Midnight & More, May 15 - 18

Yeah, I'm not so sure about the suggestion that there aren't any female comedians who can draw a crowd in 2014. Those ones mentioned above are good examples, though Maria Bamford and Sarah Silverman just recently performed in town and Amy Schumer postponed her Ryman show this month due to television commitments.

That being said, though, there are plenty of contemporary female comics who bring crowds. Off the top of my head: Morgan Murphy, Margaret Cho, Jen Kirkman, Nikki Glaser, Julie Klausner, Whitney Cummings, Tig Notaro. Joan Rivers is at least on par with Dennis Miller. And I'm not a fan, but Kathy Griffin regularly does huge shows.

Maria Bamford, Amy Schumer, Sara Silverman, just off the top of my head, all as funny as any of the great comics in this lineup. Maybe funnier, but that's so subjective!

@HeatherCL -There are very few comediennes that can bring a draw like that. Lucille Ball, Mary Tyler Moore, etc are truly one of a kind.

Re: “All Hail Electric Larry! The Lost Rock ’n’ Roll Classic Get Crazy Screens This Weekend at Logue’s

Lou Reed's intro as "Auden" (heh), in a cobwebbed mock-up of the BRINGING IT ALL BACK HOME cover, is worth going all by itself. This might be even better than ROCK 'N' ROLL HIGH SCHOOL, which didn't have the benefit of McDowell's conversation with … no, no, I've said too much.

Also, the female love interest's name is Willy Loman.

Re: “After Skipping Crazy Hearts, Nashville Ignoring Private Lives, Too

The fact of the matter is, the mass public doesn't give two shits about the music industry or the love lives of anyone in it. They're only interested in "the stars" and I like it that way. Considering the subjects of these shows are Music Row country/CCM focused personalities (I'm not going to give them credence of labeling them artists or talents), I'm still curious why these two shows didn't just air on CMT or GAC. I for one am very happy that both of these insipid, vacuous shows are failing miserably.

Re: “After Skipping Crazy Hearts, Nashville Ignoring Private Lives, Too

The thing of it is, non-competition reality television can only draw from a limited pool of people: those who want to be famous, those who want to be infamous, those who want to re-start a dead career, and sociopaths with zero sense of shame.

A talented, hard-working musician wanting to be famous is fine – understandable, even! But the worthwhile ones also have to be something else, which is smart. Smart people understand that getting famous from a show of this kind is a liability, not an asset. That’s why they’re much, much better off on competition-based shows where they can showcase their talent and keep the manufactured “drama” to a minimum.

I think if you are going to have a show based in NAshville you have to come out of the rich spolied brat mode. Go down music row and find out how hard it really is to make it in the music industry.
