Re: “National Skyline: Monkey Ink Design's Poster for Forrest Gump's 20th Anniversary

I read that you can only get it at an IMax theater viewing of Forest Gump. So disappointed. Just purchased the Monkey Ink Dave Matthews Band print. Would love to see a release of this for sale. It is beautiful.

Re: “Dawn of the Planet of the Tapes: Belcourt Launches 'Weeknight Rewind' VHS Nights

Why anyone would want to watch a bad movie in a *good* format is beyond me — but it really depends on the movie. The only way THE ROOM is tolerable is with a crowd (and then I'd say only once — the audience is the whole show). But the "pizza night" appeal is what I imagine drives series like this, and to some extent the Belcourt's midnight movies: the lost communal experience people remember of watching movies like this with a bunch of bored friends on a Saturday night. Which can be a hell of a lot of fun.

I think with The Belcourt hosting the actual MST3K folks for regular Rifftrax performances live in the theater, they're probably set on that front.

I was commenting on the format aspect and exxagerating intentionally. Why anyone would want to watch a bad movie on a bad format is beyond me.They should do a "best of Mystery Science Theater 3000" week, at least make it worth the admission and time.

Re: “Dawn of the Planet of the Tapes: Belcourt Launches 'Weeknight Rewind' VHS Nights

Your Pink Floyd analogy doesn't really hold, because nobody originally experienced THE WALL on cylinders — and this is all about celebrating something just as people saw it back in the day. You could argue that since a lot of these movies were shot on film, VHS isn't the original format — but many of these movies never got a theatrical release, and VHS is how they were seen.

I too gladly said goodbye to pan-and-scan VHS in favor of letterboxed DVD, which brought about a tremendous (and much-needed) shift in the way people think about watching movies after years of ruin on TV. But for the kind of cheesy low-budget action movies, cheapo slashers and sexploitation titles this series is hosting, scan lines and fuzzed-out images are as essential a part of the proceedings as mall hair, synth scores and mullet-rocking musclemen.

Re: “Dawn of the Planet of the Tapes: Belcourt Launches 'Weeknight Rewind' VHS Nights

I gladly said goodbye to VHS when DVD's came out, like everyone else did. These latest trends of embracing sub-par audio/video delivery is asinine. Next thing you'll read is "Cylinder Night", with Pink Floyd's The Wall transferred to 35 of them. The noisy, almost intelligible sound will blow hipsters minds. Not to mention they get to hold them.

I love this installation. It's really impressive up close and from a distance.

Last month at Infinity Cat was a party. Don't know the artist, but the venue is great. That painting looks pretty cool tho. Ovvio rocks it too.
