Re: “Hey, Ladies, Here's the Growing List of Things to Avoid Should You Want to Stay Alive

When I was about 10 years old in the early Sixties, I figured out that girls were/are prey, and I've lived my life accordingly. Neighborhood boys tried to molest my sister and me, and just about every TV show and movie in the Fifties and Sixties had unsettling, sexist, misogynist messages for females. There were no real ratings on the movies back then, so we saw everything for 15 cents or a quarter at the local movie theatre. Our parents weren't paying attention.

I learned to, or just naturally, keep a vigilant eye on my surroundings, and, like you, Megan, I don't drink alcohol. That latter precaution alone has probably saved me a world of trouble.

When I had to walk alone to Atlanta train stations at night, I wore a whistle around my neck and crossed the street if a male was approaching on my side. I have a healthy suspicion. Good men understand and don't take offense.

By the way, how many of you women will be voting to put Bill Clinton and his enabler back into the White House?

A very good article [unusual for the likes of Slate] taking down the peer reviewed Lisak study and offering some much needed perspective to the argument.

Bob, why don't we work on making sure there are fewer jerks, bastards, assholes and rednecks, instead of blaming women?

That's what I mean by wanting good men to start changing a culture that makes it acceptable to blame women for the results of men's bad behavior.

Re: “Hey, Ladies, Here's the Growing List of Things to Avoid Should You Want to Stay Alive

"Go see a goofy rom-com about a funny woman who enjoys consensually humping a variety of dudes."

Using Megan's logic, I guess men should avoid Batman movies, because several of the Colorado theater victims in 2012 were male.

Women could save themselves a lot of trouble if they'd stop swooning over men who are obviously jerks, bastards, assholes and rednecks. With some women, the more of a loser a guy is, the more she's attracted to him.

Amen NashvilleBorn, best comment on the board! Those two groups are the ones most likely to use sidewalks and ride buses and trains, so deporting them all would kill two birds with one stone!

Re: “Supreme Court Upholds 'Obamacare' Subsidies

Twelve states and the District of Columbia fully control their markets. Experts estimate about half face financial difficulties. Federal taxpayers invested nearly $5 billion in startup grants to the states, expecting that state markets would become self-sustaining. Most of the federal money has been spent, and states have to face the consequences.

"The viability of state health insurance exchanges has been a challenge across the country, particularly in small states, due to insufficient numbers of uninsured residents," said a statement from the office of Hawaii Democratic Gov. David Ige, announcing last month that his state's sign-ups were being turned over to the federal government.

Oh, Jimmy, if you call a scientific peer-reviewed article by doctors at Brown U. and Boston college "college rape hysteria," then . . . . or is this just your roundabout way of confessing you have trouble with big words?

Re: “Hey, Ladies, Here's the Growing List of Things to Avoid Should You Want to Stay Alive

You do know, don't you, that all of this college rape hysteria is a subset of the political War on Women strategy designed to fire up the coeds against men and in turn against the evil Republican Patriarchy?

http://www.usnews.com/opinion/blogs/econom…

I'm not in any way trying to minimize how horrible rape is. Rape is so horrible in fact that I make my stand to point out how unfair and utterly ridiculous it is to paint men in general with this stain from such a broad brush.

One thing that really interests me is how all of the people outraged at the 'new' rape culture have so little outrage against a misogynistic serial sexual assailant and the woman who covered for him by working to ruin the lives of all of his victims... all for political gain.

Did you not read what I actually posted? "I knew it was unfair."

Your interpretation of my comment simply demonstrates your bias.

I understand statistics. I knew full well that the odds were that nothing would come of it.

That's not the point.

Maybe you could *listen* to what women say once in a while instead of trying to lecture them about how mistaken they are.

Oh please, because a bunch of feminazi's can't get dates, they now have to fear us! HA! Men, especially white men, are under constant assault, even if all we want to do is help! I wish that I had a quarter for every time that I was slapped in the face or "reported" to "the authorities" for some innocent comment or gesture that I made to some woman! I shudder to think what it will be like under a Hildabeast administration! I hope that I never have to find out!

"The best advice I've ever heard is to listen to the little visceral voice inside your head that tells you to steer clear of/not meet the eyes of/stay out of the way of/avoid any sort of contact with someone."

My cop father always encouraged me to be aware of where I was and who was around me and to run, if I ever felt threatened. He never once suggested that I carry a gun, mace, or any other weapon.

Re: “Hey, Ladies, Here's the Growing List of Things to Avoid Should You Want to Stay Alive

Madison- your post was about fear of men and how you wanted *other men* to do something about it.

If you want to throw statistics into it, it was statistically very likely the man who chose to see the same movie as you was not going to harm you. So, I guess your fear of him has nothing to do with statistics.
