Re: “fun. with All Get Out at the Ryman, East Nashville Underground at The East Room

Now I know why you give great bands bad reviews. You like car commercial music. The spin is gay as hell

Re: “KISS w/Mötley Crüe at Bridgestone Arena, Turbo Fruits record release at Exit/In feat. Ranch Ghost, King Karl and Fox Fun

Being simply into great songwriting and sincere music performances, I have always had a deep disgust for the KISS band and their Halloween'ish costumes and make-up.

Re: “KISS w/Mötley Crüe at Bridgestone Arena, Turbo Fruits record release at Exit/In feat. Ranch Ghost, King Karl and Fox Fun

To Whoever penned the review of the KISS/Motley Crue concert at the Bridgestone Arena in this past Friday's edition....you are a complete MORON!!! While I share your views of Motley Crue (they were so much better years ago when I saw them as part of their "GIRLS,GIRLS,GIRLS" tour with Whitesnake), the comments you made about KISS were so retarded and so offensive to me that I nearly punched a hole in the wall....to refer to Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer as "STAND-INS" was one of the most insulting statements I have ever read....Eric is a terrifice drummer, and Tommy did a better job singing "Shock Me" than I had ever heard Ace Frehley do...your are idiot who doesn't know his ASS FROM A HOLE IN THE GROUND and whoever hired you and is allowing you to write the sort of crap you wrote in this article should have their head examined....I only hope KISS doesn't see this and refuse to ever come here again.....you suck and I am askig all KISS fans in the area who have also seen this article to also let the author know he sucks!!! And by the way, the opening act "The Treatment" was terrific too!!

Re: “The Black Keys' secret show at Silver Point Studios, Dr. Dog w/Purling Hiss and PUJOL at War Memorial Auditorium

It's just a bummer that TBK have yet to play a proper show for actual Nashville fans on this tour, despite making a big splash in the press over having moved here. I'd've been more impressed had there been slots for more than two local fans at this "secret gig." Not a great way to make an impression on fans in your new, adopted hometown.

Re: “Daniel Johnston at Lipscomb University's Collins Alumni Auditorium, Drive-By Truckers w/Bobby Keys and the Suffering Bastards at Cannery Ballroom

This article is ridiculous. Whomever was the author of the review of Johnston's show at Lipscomb obviously is not an aware individual. The slant against Lipscomb University is juvinille and quite frankly, silly - but also, irrelevant. If nothing else, the author should be thanking Lipscomb for hosting, not tearing down a university that this author has no real connection with. Bashing students is not funny, quirky, or understandable. The performance Johnston put on was beautiful, honest, and raw. I'm very disappointed that the Nashville Scene backs up this petty excuse for an author. Next time, focus on the topic of the article, rather than showing us your lame vocabulary of profanity and cutting remarks.

Hey check out (and like) an awesome article of New Rock Music that has been Recently Released, featuring Kathleen Edwards' "Voyageur" by one of the contributors of Culture Catch Mr. Holtje at: http://culturecatch.com/music/kathleen-edw…

Re: “Hall and Oates at The Ryman, The Sword w/Young Widows at 12th and Porter

I'm old, was at Hall & Oates, and...now I kinda hope you die before you get old, too. I'm a geezer, so I sit down a lot, but almost everyone else around me within sight was up, for almost the whole show (I was maybe 12 rows deep from the stage). This includes the balcony. Like you (I'm presuming from your comments), I was more than a little disappointed that there was no deeper delving into soul, no "Everytime You Go Away," no links with the Temptations or others. They had mucho problems with the sound system, too, clearly frustrating Darryl, and limiting appreciation of vocal accomplishments - such as they were.

Re: “PUJOL EP release show at The End, OFF! at Exit/In

I missed the OFF! show this week and I would have enjoyed reading a detailed review of it. No such luck here though, right? Just a bunch of forced 'style' in the writing and an extremely annoying overtone without any substance at all. I'll assume the show was good and just move on I guess. Par for the course around here!

Hint for the high schoolers who compose The Spin: The idea is to get people to want to read what you write, not avoid the website or the paper because you can't compose anything worth reading. Get it? You might also want to consider the possibility that your English teacher lied when praising your 'talent'. This screaming-at-your-readers-with-inside-jokes tactic is extremely obnoxious and reveals your lack of ability again and again.

Re: “GZA at MTSU, Tegan and Sara at The Ryman and more

MTSU (especially the programming department) is GROSSLY underfunded by the state. Raise their share of the student activity fee or up the support by the state funds in the University and they would be able to bring in and properly promote better shows.

Re: “Girls & Boys Nashville at Cannery Ballroom, Hate Life Sunday featuring The Black Belles at The Basement

"The four-piece goth-garagers played a fun set of dark, organ-fueled rock that made us imagine what The Slits would have sounded like if they had copped their style from The Lyres."

High praise indeed. Looking forward to seeing the BBs next time....

Re: “Ponychase, By Lightning! and Hands Down Eugene at Exit/In, Natural Child, Liquor Store, Thelma and the Sleaze and Denney and the Jets at Springwater

Femifist:

Thelma and the Sleaze did not ask to be
reviewed, so I think it's unfair to attack
them based on a Spin. Second, Lauren Gilbert
(lead singer/guitarist) is a wonderful musician.
She is a much more proficient guitarist than
myself, and I'm not bad at all.

Say what you want about the style and the
songs (which are intentionally dirty and rough around
the edges) but those ladies are not hacks,
by any means. They've been rocking this scene for years!
They all love to play music, mostly
at the Springwater, so why do you care?

Re: “Ponychase, By Lightning! and Hands Down Eugene at Exit/In, Natural Child, Liquor Store, Thelma and the Sleaze and Denney and the Jets at Springwater

i understand why the scene would cover the rest of these bands, but....thelma and the sleaze? really? they are one of the worst bands playing around nashville. unoriginal songs that are played poorly-and i know that is the consensus of the majority of people that have seen them play. i am a strong supporter of all-female bands but i would like them to at least be decent. honestly, thelma makes other women that can play their instruments look bad.

Re: “The Spin

You are the most fantastic writers and I cam hardly wait for each column to appear. You really don't have to send me those free concert tickets as we discussed. Just hope this message helps you ; )

Re: “Nobody's Vault but Mine Third Man Records Fan Appreciation Event Night One at Mercy Lounge and Peach Kelli Pop, Heavy Cream, Diarrhea Planet and Fox Fun at Glenn Danzig's House

Having just completed a two-week tour of "every city in Ohio," the semi-shirtless Planeteers were all too ready to incapacitate the few dozen folks in Danzig's cellar-like premises with a bewildering blast of party-rock shrapnel, once again proving that — though their name may be a joke — they won't be flushed away any time soon.

Re: “South by Southwest 2011: The Strokes, OMD, Death From Above 1979, Wild Flag, JEFF the Brotherhood and more

Jon Hamm?! What?! I was at that show! I feel retroactively touched by fame and glamour! That was a great show, the best I saw at SXSW. Sharon just destroyed after really good sets from Olof Arnalds, Ted Leo, and Sam Amidon. Amidon is a personal favorite and he didn't disappoint, offering up a lot of funny stage banter and an amazing cover of "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina & the Waves. Cool venue too.

Re: “Warpaint, Royal Bangs and The Non-Commissioned Officers at Exit/In, Colour Revolt and Turbo Fruits at Mercy Lounge

I was front row for Warpaint at Bonnaroo, have their ep and their new CD , two shirts, a hoodie and two posters and both of their records on vynl and went all the way to the Tabernacle to see them in ATL and was one of those kids going crazy up front in nashville and every single show was a completly different set up, different feel, different experience and I will be there when they are at Mercy Lounge in April and honestly, if you don't like them you just don't fucking get them, people are afriad of what they don't understand and when it comes to music some people think the safer the better but I dare to Feel and Transcend and dance the pain away and do not care for puff little stupid fluff nonsense that people think is music. I am a musician myself and ahve been since ago 11 and play lots of shows myself and they have greatly inspired me, especially emily kokal's amazing vocal abilities and I know people who right for publications have to say something about everyone who was their but honestly, you took a great night and made it sound like nothing when it was something youre obviously too daft to feel and your very unqualified for your job. besides, i was a journalism major for about.... one full semester until i realized that bashing people is too easy and if that's what you wanna do, on- go be an asshole, but doing it on a LARGE based scale is not just bawlsy it's retarded because ALL OF this shit is just Oppinions- "good" is relative to every person, every situation. there is so much music out there cause there are so many people, some people like n'sync and some people grew the fuck up and i can't help it if my bawls dropped and yours didn't but I am proud to say those women changed my life and that is my oppinion and I hate journalist cause all you did was piss a bunch of people off, don't you see that? it's ghey!!! if you're gonna do it, don't be a dick, dont rip out people's gizzards, just give a critique, no one can seem to do that without bein an ass and i know you can try harder than that and I know if don't like warpaint you must love someone like the fucking one ht wonder's the YEAH YEAH YEAH'S - now THAT's a dumb bitch- Warpaint are amazing and make me proud to be a woman musician! SUCk ma NUTZ cuz that's what you do SUCK.
