Re: “Love-Hate Mail

Our daily Newspaper is gone down. I can't believe their sports reporters did not cover the SEC Basketball tournment and John Glennon the great hockey writer not being on the road. Memphis commerical appeal beat reporter for the NBA team there is on the road and smaller papers covered the SEC Basketball tournment. What is next Jim Wyatt the great beat reporter for the Titans not being on the road with the Titans? Other Gannett papers send their sports people on the road. What was once a great newspaper is now a bad newspaper. Shame on you Tennessean and shame on the Scene for not doing a story about this. Sherman Novoson

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

I am the wife of a soldier deployed in Iraq right now. To join the military in hopes of money for your family is a understandable goal but when you sign the papers you also sign for your country. I miss my husband very much. We were only married 3 months when he was deployed and though I know he misses me I would never want him to desert our country for me. It is cowardly and dishonoring to our country that this women will cry and explain that she was home-sick as the reason for deserting. To her I suck it up and get over it because you made the decision to join and were stupid to think you could earn money and not really do anything to earn it. I am sorry if I come off as heartless but it is stupid to me that she thinks she deserves anything. I give her no respect because my husband is there now and he sees the same things as she did and not once has he ever mentioned deserted. He is honorable the men and women who stay over there are honorable. Not this women no matter what her reason. You do not desert.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

As a firm believer in serving in the military, I believe that it is such a small price to pay for the lives of loved ones all over the world. Serving tells your family that you are willing to do anything (including dying) for their safety and security. Far to often this is left to a few brave men and women to fend for us all. I believe that all Americans should be required to serve at least two years. If you wish to move to America and enjoy life here, show us. Join our military; here you can learn our culture, our language, while helping us all understand yours. I believe that dissertation equals deportation. Pick a country; Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea, etc., we'll help you get there. It is true this is still a all volunteer military and all soldiers know that war is always a possibility. If you joined for any other reason then to protect your loved ones; please pick a country. Any members of the news media that has failed to serve and wishes to criticize our soldiers in uniform; PLEASE PICK A COUNTRY. Kevin Elizabethtown, Kentucky

Instead of complaining or griping about stories written in the Scene, I encourage all of you (as well as myself) to submit stories for publication. Does anyone know if the Scence accepts such stories? (Regardless of payment or not I am interested!)

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

I don't pay too much attention to the idiots on Fox or the idiots on MSNBC. I do pay attention when someone says they are going to do something and don't. So, when Mr. Obama signed the stimulas bill with the 9,000 + earmarks he blew a great opportunity to show America he really is different. "No more earmrks" he said so many times during his campaign. I voted for him because I thought maybe, just maybe, this guy will do what he says. But again it's politics as usuaul. I'll bet your readers won't see a satirical cartoon about it either.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

To those of you who are so fearful of the law-abiding carrying a concealed weapon in a park: How do you get TO the park? On the way, you are surrounded by law-abiding citizens carrying concealed weapons. In fact about one in every twenty has a concealed carry license, according to recent newspaper articles. If these people aren't causing you a daily problem outside a park, why should the same people cause a problem just because you are inside a park? If you do not wish to protect yourself, that is your prerogative. Why not let others have the freedom to make that choice for themselves?

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

I used to look forward to each issue, but the last several issues have been a disappointment. The calibre of writing has deteriorated to scandal sheet level.several colums that I enjoyed have been dropped, and I see the whole premise heading towards the Rage or MetroMix,whatever it is called now.We do'nt need another upscale suckup publication.Bring back the Scene that we looked forward to.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

Then explain what this sentence means. To me it implies that you have made out with someone. "On the other hand, I haven't made out with anyone working at The Red Door East and most of those folks know my name." How does making out with someone working at a bar have anything to do with this story?

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

If wanted "revenge" against someone I wouldn't use a newspaper to do it.I was just making an observation.I've also had bad service at other establishments. They weren't mentioned in the article.I have no ill will towards 3 Crow Bar or it's employees.I applaud you,Todd from East Nashville, for sticking up for your neighborhood bar,but I'm sure the good musicians who have played there in the last couple of years might disagree with you on one point. On a side note,as you put it,I never said I made out with anyone at 3 Crow or Red Door. You said that.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

CHARLIE WAYNE,S ANNUAL BIRTHDAY BASH AND CONCERT Recording artist Charlie Wayne is scheduled to perform an unplugged acoustic concert at Douglas Corner FEB 28 2009 at 8:00 pm. This show will be just Charlie and his guitar. No smoke and mirrors, no band, just him doing what he loves, singing his songs for the fans. The show will consist of songs from all his albums, including a few Bullet Boy's hits and some of his newer songs like "Once Upon a Time" and "Duck and the Dove". Charlie is out promoting his new songs along with his newly published book "Enchanted Life". The book is an autobiography and also touches on his beliefs of the power of positive thinking sprinkled with the unkown and mysterious. Charlie has met thousands of people throughout the years and many have touched his heart. Many of them have ended up in the book, who knows? You could be too! Pick your copy up at Barnes & Noble or Books-A-Million. This is a "must see" show! CHARLIE WILL HAVE SOME VERY VERY SPECIAL SUPRISE GUESTS.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

Common, Nashville Scene is becoming a joke. 1st We would like to thank Caleb for his well written article on MBA and EHS, further tarnishing reputations of both schools, and igniting a fire between the two. NO IT IS NOT GOOD JOURNALISM. The facts were completely wrong, the article itself was horribly written, and inconsiderate when the subject matter was racism as it referred to Tavaress as "a black kid" instead of the proper African American. The Article about Mr.Duncan also was poorly written, as the facts were totally wrong because the charges were DROPPED, he did not plead guilty. I applaud you all for being the WORST newspaper/national enquirer/magazine/whatever you want to call yourself. You should be ashamed.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

Well, If Fred Thompson is railing against the NAACP, then it must be time for me to join. The invitation letter has been around for a couple of weeks. If Fred says it's bad, it must be the greatest organization in the US. He's never been right on anything yet. I'm there!

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

Doyle Sheppard should spend less time trying to get revenge on a waitress or waiter that he made out with once and start telling the truth. Three Crow has not had bands in almost 2 years let alone "the occasional good band". This place is one of the rare places that no one that works there care who has your tab or where it is, they are glad to get you a drink. When things get real crowded and you go straight to the bar for a drink and then find a table, that does not bother them. You do not have to close your tab and open another one. Service is great considering how crowded it can get sometimes. If Doyle is reporting stories from 2 years ago, then he might have gotten bad service. Red Door East is great about knowing people's names, but it is much smaller and has more regulars. On a side note, how do you make out with someone at 3 Crow that does not know your name?
