Re: “Love-Hate Mail

I'll just bet that Bob Cole was "involved" in Nashville busing in 1972. I just wish that he had had the courage to come out and say in what way he was involved, and what side he was on. It would have been a lot easier to at least respect his choices and opinions if he had been honest enough to do this. But he didn't, so we can only guess. Based on the content and tone of his letter, it seems awfully hard to believe that he was standing around with a sign that read "Equality in Education" or "Liberty and Justice For All." Lots of people were "involved in busing" in those days by loudly protesting it because it would mean Caucausian kids and African-American kids going to the same school, whatever nicer-sounding excuse was given. When it happened anyway, are we really supposed to believe that Bob Cole and his ilk were anyplace except in the forefront of frantic white flight to the suburbs (well, unless they were already there)? People certainly have the right to hold whatever opinion they choose, but I really think that they should at least be honest about the truths behind their opinions, instead of omitting them when they're ugly truths. In my opinion, that's exactly what Bob Cole did. If anybody wants to be a racist, fine-- people have the *right* to be racists if they really want to be. But let's all at least admit what we're really thinking!

Re: “Love/Hate Mail

Darrell will never get into Belle Meade Country Club but it is not because of his race. The Scene should have done the whole article about why Darrell is not suitable for BMCC. Here are the top 10 reasons (and there are many more!) he will never be accepted into the club: 1. His friends call BMCC members "racist" and "pretentious." 2. He was investigated by the FBI and TBI when he tried to shakedown local developers for his own profit. 3. He hangs out with Ludye Wallace. 4. His name is "Darrell" but it could be worse, he could spell it "Darryl." 5. He grew up in "humble origins" not on Jackson Blvd. 6. He went to MTSU not Sewanee, UVA, Vanderbilt or Washington & Lee. 7. He drives a Corvette with a vanity plate. 8. He can barely put a sentence together. 9. Hardly any members at BMCC know him. 10. He is ARROGANT!

Re: “Love/Hate Mail

And why in the world would someone brag about a picture with immoral, unethical & truly ‘arrogant’ people. Strange what people get off on these days. Or maybe that IS one of the better people in his right of way. So I guess.. you might want to keep the picture. Shakedown probe looks at minority-business dealings Darrell Freeman issues statement, denies knowledge of any investigation http://www.nashvillepost.com/news/2006/6/15/feds_focus_in_on_council_chamber_and_minority_business_leaders This is just one long reason why Belle Meade wouldn’t want him. http://www.ripoffreport.com http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/211/RipOff0211316.htm

Re: “Letters from our readers

"As a Freemason, I once thought it might be neat to petition one of the local Prince Hall lodges for membership. (Prince Hall lodges are African-American Masonic lodges.) That is, until some black friends of mine assured me I would be wasting my—and everyone else's—time. " Sorry Brother you are wrong. Prince Hall doesnt discriminate against whites just as black men can join non -PH lodges. Let me remind you, as I am obligated, to show a bit more restraint when posting about Masonry as a Mason. Visit the Forums out there. Plenty of whites in PH and plenty of blacks in non-ph they each have their reasons. Prince Halls Brothers are my Brothers as are you (I am white).

RE: The discontinuation of Mr. Jower's Helter Shelter column. It's about freakin' time. We're all due for some fresh air as we've had about as much as we can take of his hot air.
