Re: “Jack White Fields Fan Questions, Defends Tidal

Gravy, you've still made no convincing arguments:

1. Spotify is still a superior product, and cheaper.
2. Blogs like THIS ONE RIGHT HERE are doing a fine job hipping me to the latest and greatest here in town. Nashville Cream is zero dollars a month.

Finally, I'd like to add that Jack's whole argument about "getting to LIVE and not taking second jobs" is too simplistic. That's not how streaming royalties work and he knows it.
I've no sympathy for his hip young stable needing to keep their mind clear from parking cars and bussing tables. This town is overflowing with people who can play them (and me) under the table, and nobody is looking out for them. Play the game, earn your stripes like anyone else. Tidal is no magic bullet, it's a statement, a rich people fight.

Re: “Jack White Fields Fan Questions, Defends Tidal

Chill out Jack.

Take a break from the music business/industry and clear your head dude.

If people are going to try something new and are going to like it, it isn't because someone is trying to convince them they should try it and like it. It is best to make a recommendation for a product and let it go where the people want to take it. If they don't go for it then don't waste your energy saying the same things over and over and over again.

That isn't becoming of anyone.

Take a drive out to western Tennessee to see The Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area with your kids and drive through the buffalo range. IN OTHER WORDS: Get yourself out of your own environment and see some real stuff going on in the world. Seeing those buffalo in their natural habitat is as real as it gets.

You seriously need a break from your own reality man.

Oh, and while I'm giving out advice, let me ask you this : When are you going to get rid of the 'white trash trap' that can't sing, writes awful songs and may only be sounding anywhere near good to people because you keep hiring good musicians to back her. You know the one I'm talking about. I recommend sending her back to wherever she came from in Michigan. You sure made a huge mistake moving her nasty leaching ass to Tennessee. She definitely seems determined to keep you as her FSD (Forever Sugar Daddy) and like a dummy, you keep supporting her...how many years now/since 1999??? CREEPY!!!

I just can't bring myself to visit the TMR complex when you are wasting energy, time, and good money on trash talent like that and are by-pass more great talent that is oozing out of so many other music folks in the Music City, USA.

Get your head out of your ass man. Quit whining about this Tidal endeavor you got yourself into and producing shit talent....then people may really start listening to what you have to say.

I needed to do some bitching at Jack. That felt good!

Re: “Jack White Fields Fan Questions, Defends Tidal

You really aren't making the most of your $10/month. In the three weeks they've been doing Tidal Rising's "This Week's 5 Picks", at least 2 of the 5 have been Nashville artists, not counting Odessa, Torres, and artists that used to live here.

I use Tidal to listen to music by artists like Jack White and Alicia Keys

All i'm really hearing is
"It's not perfect, so stop trying."
"Spotify did it first, so stop trying."
"I already have Spotify. There can be only one."

Re: “Jack White Fields Fan Questions, Defends Tidal

JW, I am not sure you fully understand what you are talking about. TIDAL will not yield more royalties than any other subscription streaming service already out there. Furthermore, any romanticism of the pre-digital "good ole days" of $15-$20 records, tapes, cds, etc and artists and songwriters making more $$ is false. Access and money to studios, labels, etc were far more restricted. So, sure, if you were one of the lucky few to actually get signed or have money and access to record in a studio, and then be one of the even fewer who managed to actually sell enough records to recoup advances (and survive a label ripping you off as they notoriously did with shady accounting practices with physical product ) sure, you got paid more back then than the fractions of cents that streams pay out now. Many of the DIY Indie labels way back when, like Merge had to bust their ass or take it in the ass just to find decent distribution. Now they flourish without having that restriction. Also, while I believe you when you say people still spend millions making a record, anyone in this day and age spending a million dollars to record one album is likely already a millionaire, and an idiot and not reflective of the people you are trying to help. And last I heard, movie piracy exists and Spielberg is the last guy that is ever financially affected by it. Not a good example.

I support musicians by buying physical copies of records I like and going to shows and buying shirts.

Re: “Jack White Fields Fan Questions, Defends Tidal

Recording is WAY cheaper than it used to be, that's why music row is disappearing. You don't need that infrastructure to make em anymore. Feature films cost many millions and employ small armies. Bad analogy.

Musicians never had voices or power in the system. The power belongs to the racket that convinced mall goers that it was perfectly normal to shell out $20 for a bit of plastic. In most cases the musicians were just commodities that were managed and exploited like a damn fruit plantation. Even your scared cows were just somebody's asset. That is still the case. Just look at SONY's contract with Spotify. Oh right, you can't.

TIDAL is a weak gesture to counter the massive success of Spotify. In just a couple of years we will be either laughing at it or we will have forgotten it entirely.

Re: “I signed up for Jay Z's streaming service and all I got was this damn good audio quality and exclusive content

"BBHMM" peaked at number 17 on the billboard hot 100 and was in the top 40 in most other countries. The exclusive approach may have stifled its momentum to #1, but i wouldn't say it was poorly received by any means.

Re: “And Your Rolling Stones LP Field Opener Is ... Brad Paisley

Hey Gold I am glad you are feeling positive about the ticket sales for the Rolling Stones show in Nashville next month. Brad Paisley might help get the rest of the tickets sold....be great to make it a "sold out" show = the more the merrier, amirite?

FYI, and to give you a better perspective on Brad being the Stones opening act, check out these two videos on www.youtube.com ...

(1) [Brad Paisley to Open for Rolling Stones in Nashville] ..."Paisley said in a tweet that he was so proud to open for the greatest rock band in the world."

(2) ["Dead Flowers" The Rolling Stones & Brad Paisley @ Wells Fargo Center Philadelphia 6/18/13]...a 6:17 minute video clip

I think a lot of folks may come away from this show with a whole different perspective after seeing BP open for the Stones. After viewing the Philadelphia video clip, I suspect the Stones will invite Brad to come back out on stage to jam with them on a song or two.

You are right that at least the opening act isn't like Florida Georgia Line or Jason Aldean.

I do have to admit that I won tickets through Bryan Adams fan club to a CMT Crossroads taping in Franklin, TN a few years back with Adams and Aldean. It was a good show. That was just before Aldean skyrocketed on the country music scene to super stardom. That Aldean is a hard working musician. I'll give him that.

Personally I think Brad will make Nashville proud at this show. Although I have followed rock music most of my life I did happen to be at an Opry show the night Brad got invited to join the Opry cast. Because I was there for that I made sure I was at the Opry show for Brad's induction into the Opry. If I remember correctly, he had borrowed one of Buck Owens jackets (bright yellow) to wear at the Opry that night. Brad definitely cares about music history.

Keep an open mind Gold and give Brad a chance to impress the LP Field audience that night...will look forward to the Spin's concert review of the night and for some great pictures too.

Hope everyone has a great time!

The promoters will most likely end up giving lots of tickets away to give the false sense of a sell out re: Eric Church's Bridgestone attendance record
