Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: Give Us Your Top 5 Restaurants

Top 5 across the board?
1: Flyte-consistent excellence. 2: Silo over Rolf because Silo uses Open Table and makes it so much easier to get a table as such. (same for lockeland and Margot-if you want to be a regular anywhere, all fine-ish dining establishments NEED a good resv system, so that kicks them out of the top 5 for me). 3: Etch. 4: Catbird, but I'm a bit skeptical now that Josh is leaving. Just had my 5th visit. 5: Cafe Fundamental right now. All of my choices I have dined at at least 5 times, but Husk only once so far, so too new to tell.

Runners up: all those without resv systems mentioned above, plus Marche (amazing and fresh food w great prices), Park Cafe (keeps getting better and better!), City House (the eclectic menu can be difficult for some), Germantown Cafe is a wonderful lunch spot and Wild Hare. Looking forward to trying Mason's and Riveria Provincial soon.

Place I miss the most? Lime. Bar none.

Re: “Despite remodeling and a revamped menu, it's the same old O'Charley's

"Fidelity National CEO George Foley"? Your article clearly wasn't well researched, as no such person exists.

Re: “First Bite: Husk Nashville

I echo the sentiment of the first comment. They are obviously still working quite a few kinks. I visited a couple of nights ago and also visited the Charleston location a couple of years ago. My comparisons between the two locations was likely unfair, particularly given the restaurant is in its first couple of weeks of opening. Most notably, I found the waitstaff to seem quite hectic and somewhat uninformed about the menu items.

However, I felt the Nashville city portraits on the walls in the bar were hideous. I like that the location is attempting to incorporate "Nashville" in the design, but those paintings appeared to be Nashville touristy paintings that you might by in a gift shop on Broadway to remember your vacation to Music City. I expected the art to be more representative of Nashville 2013.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: Give Us Your Top 5 Restaurants

Open thready: I've been to Peg Leg twice in the last couple weeks. I've had a sandwich with meat pulled from a whole hog and dry rub ribs.

Both were excellent. The coleslaw was a highlight as a side. The memphis sushi (smoked sausage, cheese, saltines) was also tasty.

I know people are getting a bit ho hum about barbecue in Nashville but I think Peg Leg's food is very strong. I lik that the menu is simple (only pork and chicken as mains) and the space is right up my alley. I look forward to trying the chicken.

Re: “First Bite: Husk Nashville

As you duly note, they seem to be working out some kinks still. I had a meal at the Charleston location in 2012 that was downright incredible - special and mindblowing with every detail attended to. My first (dinner) visit here was good but with a few slight blunders and things not quite hitting on all cylinders, which is absolutely to be expected. The bar was set so high with the Charleston establishment (anyone who has eaten there would likely concur) that that may be the biggest problem Husk Nashville faces.

Question - anyone know where they obtained the Nashville city portraits on the walls of the bar? (The design and layout of the space are worth noting - pretty flawless.) They are very cool and gorgeous ...

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: Give Us Your Top 5 Restaurants

My top 5: Husk, Rolf & Daughters, Café Fundamental, Tavern, and Smiling Elephant. All so yummy.

For lunch in Lebanon, if you don't want big chains, it's slim pickings. I'd say either Sunset (meat and three, really good broasted chicken) or Painturo's Pizza. Los Compadres or Jalisco's Mexican are both popular, although pretty standard Middle TN Mexican. Snow White Drive-In used to be really good, but I haven't been in a long time, and there are new owners so I can't say either way now. A lot of people really like the Chop House too, but it's overpriced for what it is, in my opinion.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: Give Us Your Top 5 Restaurants

City House, Flyte (just had the an incredible mid-week meal there last night), F Scotts, the taco truck at the BP Gas Station on Nolensville Rd for the Al Pastor taco with everything on it, 400 Degrees for the best 100 degrees hot chicken (always fresh, never frozen, and prepared to order).

Yeah, what rules Jack! Here are my more Top 5:
Amd Silly Goose (if I can get in), Mas Taco for fried avocado taco), Ginger for lard nar me krob, Jeni's ice cream (yes ice cream can be a meal), Cafe Fundemental for Sunday Brunch, Chinatown for the braised pork belly with chinese pickles, Fido's food is always a good stand by, Sunset Grill delivers a good hot meal when we want it, Shabu Shabu house for the only shabu shabu experience in Nashville, King Market (for groceries, cafe and jewelry), and Mesob for some really kick-a$$ Ethiopian.

Cafe Fundamental (doesn't get enough credit for being phenomenal), F Scotts, Merchants (Bistro downstairs), M and Macke & Kates tied as one, and Germantown Cafe

Waiting quite impatiently to go to: SILO, Lockeland, and Rolfe Catbird.

Re: “Hungry for Sourdough: How-to and When-to?

Oddly enough, I'm actually heading to Kentucky this weekend and on my list of things to bring back with me is a chunk of my grandmother's sourdough starter. I've never attempted it myself, but that bread is what dreams are made of. One morning a few weeks ago I awoke with a mad craving for it, so I decided it's time for me to take on the task. Wish me luck!
