Re: “Hey, Gov. Haslam — CEOs are Accountable to Shareholders, Right?

Commenters keep making comments without checking and hoping others don't check. Here's a link from NBC (there's other sources ,too): California ranks LAST in "best run states." Texas? Number 13. Tennessee? Number 12. There's a half dozen cities in California declaring bankruptcy or at least crossing their fingers hoping to avoid it. The main reason? Retiring government workers. Retiring UNION government workers. And in Los Angeles the world is upside down. Democrat contenders for Mayor proposed tax breaks to attract new businesses. Shazamm!!

Hone your knife constantly and you'll rarely need to grind new edges on them. This has more to do with a blade "holding" it's edge than anything.

Re: “Hey, Gov. Haslam — CEOs are Accountable to Shareholders, Right?

Actually, California is not broke. They do have a lot of debt (and so does Texas by the way) and some serious problems though. The problem in California, as trolls like bobsguns and others who breathlessly post on Pith ignore, is far more complicated. Their system of government was created to be a direct democracy where any changes (such as taxes) go directly to the people in the form of referendums. It's frustrated both Republican and Democratic governors. There are simply no easy fixes in that state. Contrast that with Texas, which is not the free-market haven that "conservatives" makes it out to be. Governor Perry has doubled that states debt and has had to appropriate nearly their entire "rainy day" fund to make it appear that they are a fiscally prudent state. But Texas doesn't have a referendum system. But they still manage to mostly kick the can down the road for some future Governor and legislature to deal with.

>>CA has a huge surplus right now<<

Cite your source as ALL of the news media is reporting CA is broke, broke, broke & Gov. Moonbeam is raising taxes like there's no tomorrow. If you have proof otherwise, then by all means, trot it out.

Yeah, look how well that's worked for Detroit, California, etc.

Sweet jesus, liberals ARE woefully ignorant.

Re: “Robert Earl Keen parries Toby Keith and shows he's Ready for Confetti

BTW: Next time you insult the "pile of shit" you deem Texas Music to be, look at all of the great artists who have come to Nashville over the years to write and perform masterful songs that have helped lend Music Row some artistic credibility. Gee, Guy Clark, Townes Van Zandt, Kris Kristofferson, Mickey Newbury, Steve Young, etc., etc., all spring into mind.

Yo, "tdhunts", you don't have clue one as to what the fuck you are writing about here. REK is not some Johnny-come-lately regional act. For one, he has a nation-wide fanbase, tours across the country and sells out large venues wherever he goes. Toby Keith had some talent early on, but has become another corporate shill. REK is real. It's like comparing plastic to wood. Keith could've just covered "Road Goes On Forever," like many other acts, but no. He took the (very) low road. Hell, if it was good enough for Willie, Waylon, Merle and Kris, why not Toby Queef? Ah, yes, that's why: lack of integrity.

Re: “Hey, Gov. Haslam — CEOs are Accountable to Shareholders, Right?

Business number 1 priority is to make a profit, government is to provide a service. Simple as that! It always makes me smile while clenching me fists when some RW yahoo makes statements like running government like a business! I have run several successful ,businesses (and some who weren't), and trust me (or not), it is NOT the same as government, not even close! Two different mission statements!

In a word, Burrito, the answer to your second question is yes. In regard to your first question, who can really say? Perhaps relaxed-fit jeans leave young bands feeling TOO relaxed and therefore — just maybe — complacent and unmotivated. Discomfort breeds growth, as they say. ... Do they say that?

Re: “More Local Chefs Added to Music City Eats Roster and Featured at Atlanta Wine & Food Festival

Just wish Nashville would have ticket options like Atlanta and Charleston have. With only having two, $275 and $500, I guess this festival is more for people coming into town or ones with some really good babysitters.

Re: “More Local Chefs Added to Music City Eats Roster and Featured at Atlanta Wine & Food Festival

Was this not clear enough, MC1?

"Tickets to the Tasting Tents run $100 for a one-day visit, or you can buy a full pass to the festival for $500 that includes admission to nine seminars, three days of tasting tents and the Pig Out: Tailgate Style event. As you can see, this puts the Music City Eats pricing pretty much in line with Atlanta and other similar festivals. When you consider that you receive three days of food, drink, information, entertainment and the chance to rub shoulders with so many of your favorite chefs in one place, either festival (or both) is a splurge well worth considering."

While these festivals are great for locals, and I hope lots of folks avail themselves of the opportunities, it's important that a big part of these events are as a travel destination for out-of-towners. I imagine that's one reason why the Nashville CVB has taken an active (and financial) participatory role in MCE. When I pay to attend a festival in another town, I consider the expense that it would cost to get essentially a weekend's worth of food and how difficult and expensive it would be for me to sample 20-30 different local chefs' food in all of their restaurants in another town. Then I make up my mind if it's worth the expense, and I hope others will take that under consideration before they just say it's ridiculously expensive. (Heck, it's only like 15 bowls of ramen. /ducks flying bowl)

Why does everyone in bands these days have to wear the same jeans? Is it like the 21st Century version of the Beatles' suits?

Any article about Music City Eats should mention that, to attend, it costs between $275 and $500 per person.
