Re: “Gibbons and Cates Need to Stop Looking for Absolution and Start Asking for Forgiveness

The Fear of comeuppance for their folly and disregard for the protestors right to assemble, right to protest, right to access to public property, MIGHT have a consideration here. Perhaps in hindsight they realize what they did. and it was wrong. Those that called for more draconian measures (see yoyojohns sock-puppet above) are simply unable to accept the constitutional right to dissent, that is unless THEY are the ones protesting.

Re: “Gibbons and Cates Need to Stop Looking for Absolution and Start Asking for Forgiveness

Hasn't this issue already been settled by the fact the arrests were determined to be unjustified? Are Gibbons and Cates being sued now? If not, "qualified immunity" would seem to have no significance.

Looking back,

I'm sorry they did not tear gas 'em.

Ahhh, hindsight.

Re: “Tough Questions, Frank Answers at Town Hall Meeting On Ferguson

It certainly does NOT look good for the officer. Absent of some smoking gun (so to speak) changing the overwhelming eye witness story and on the surface and preliminary autopsy and video evidence so far presented, I would say the officer is guilty of some degree of murder.

As for your dubious claims on the local protestors, even the state police said they were outsiders, and NOT indicative of the vast majority. The right to assemble and protest is a sacrament of the constitution, and to deny is indicative of the 60's style police abuse of civil rights protests. as happened earlier by the local police prior to most any of the crowd generated violence.

@yo-yo: @Donna Locke: Looks like you have the lap dogs yapping.

The only dog in here is you nipping at everybody's heels like some hyperactive far-right chihuahua.

JtR, I've got to ask while things are quiet. Is Dexter the subject of your picture here? If so, he still looks tired from his failed run for office.

Re: “You Had One Job, Jim Tracy

Constantly using phrases like liberal and such in denigrating manners are the hand-tools of political envy and hate mongering, not to mention ideological ignorance. Without much exception most if not all great social strides have come via liberal policies being instituted.

Being put upon is often a result in putting yourself out there with the proverbial kick-me sign via endless posts of irrelevance and easily disputed POV's. Especially with a pompous attitude and constant crying crocodile tears about ideological conspiracies.

Donna you are a convenient and well deserving target in the opinion of many. I will give you credit that you possess much more intelligence than the average poster, you just put it to poor use!

"Knowing what you know TODAY would you send this officer to prison?"

Your question has no value. You are asking for a quasi-trial by public opinion in the absence of credible facts. You may be comfortable with that, but I'm not.

Re: “The Daily Links: Solitary Confinement, Monster Groupers and Ferguson

NO! Busing was just ONE in many necessary steps never instituted in full by successive administrations, budget wise, or poorly administered. Tremendous strides were made since the days when such programs were 1st instituted, but such waned when it became politically expedient for opportunistic rascals to target their funding..
Racial prejudice can not be cured via some magic pill, it is a combination of increased availability to various avenues out of poverty to allow generations of minorities to break the cycle of despair. This must be coupled with a change in the values and opinions of the aptly called "privileged class" toward minorities.
The problem here is and has always been that minorities are a convenient target for those misled into the old chestnut of out of control "entitlements" and " boot-strap" realities for political purpose. In times of financial stress it has always been a strategy of the extreme right to use minorities as blame for the ills of a nation ala Hitler. People fear and then some succumb to hate and blame for those whom are different.
Fact is "Old Trees Got Deep Roots"! Racial prejudice will never be destroyed as long as it stays a tool for ignorance and is encouraged via popular fringe media with dog whistle strategies.

Re: “Tough Questions, Frank Answers at Town Hall Meeting On Ferguson

Yoyo, I freely admit that the looting and property destruction in Ferguson is unacceptable. The perpetrators should be prosecuted and, if found guilty, punished. As for the looting making sense, my bet it that some of the looters are acting out anger and frustration they don't know how to or choose not to express more constructively, but the majority are just opportunistic a-**holes taking advantage of the situation to steal some stuff.

I have a huge problem with any claims that these acts are representative of the entire community of Ferguson, that looting has been the only community response to the shooting, or that protesting is synonymous with looting.

America was promised that busing the kids would fix all of the disparities. So, can anybody figure out why the Asians are doing so well? It's gotta be skin color...or maybe the eyes.

Re: “Tough Questions, Frank Answers at Town Hall Meeting On Ferguson

This blog is about tough questions? Here' one: How does it make sense that when police kill a black guy the response from the community, with outside assistance, is to trash and loot the local stores. Is there anybody besides me that think that's wrong, to follow up a tragedy with a vicious, senseless response? How did that feckless hug-a-looter police attitude work out in Ferguson, anyway?

Re: “Tough Questions, Frank Answers at Town Hall Meeting On Ferguson

Let us think, Prag.... we have enough information. It is just us....no more "need
more"

Knowing what you know TODAY would you send this officer to prison?

I would not. Let him go. No money to the family

How about JC or any others? Freedom or prison?

You won't be held to it; I m sure we will revisit this-new evidence, blacks raising too much hell. we can all change our minds.

A conservative pastor calls for a constitutional amendment to give long prison terms to homosexuals.
