Re: “Charter Schools Enter Fray in East Nashville Plan

I am discussing the language you used, not actual teaching. Hence, the word "strive."

What are you striving for when you seek to address an achievement gap?

The language is mushy and it pits groups (of children and, thereby, their parents) against each other.

Closing an achievement gap can be done a couple different ways:

(1) We can increase achievement for the bottom-performers faster than the increase for top performers.

(2) We can decrease achievement for the top performers faster than the decrease for the bottom performers (or there can be increase for bottom performers).

To the extent that school-based resources are allocated disproportionately to bottom-performers to achieve #1, that is inequitable. MNPS exists to educate all students to their potential. #1 should be seen as an unacceptable *goal.*

#2 should be unacceptable as a goal; that is, anticipating a decrease in achievement for one group just so another may benefit should be unacceptable.

#1 is an acceptable *result.* Presumably (and it is stated in the Scene's cover article this week), there is low-hanging fruit w/r/t achievement that, when addressed, may lead to #1. And, that is a pretty good result - raising the bottom performers up. However, if you set out to do that with the express intention to give short shift to the higher performers, there will be problems.

Re: “Report: Secret Service Asked Metro Cops to Fake A Warrant

Bigotry is a mindset. Like assuming all members of any group are "scumbags." As noted, if someone here posted that about a group that you liked, you would scream "bigot" as fast as you can type. The only thing 'false' in this thread is your pathetic efforts to distance yourself from your own comment.

Re: “Report: Secret Service Asked Metro Cops to Fake A Warrant

Obviously. That is why I've wished ill to police officers, and have started anti-police websites, and have called for the eradication of police officers.

Too bad "false equivalence" isn't in the dictionary I got for you.

Re: “Report: Secret Service Asked Metro Cops to Fake A Warrant

Emotion has nothing to do with is. You are a bigot by every standard you would apply to someone in a white sheet burning a cross. You just lack the character to own up to your bigotry.

You're very emotional, Mark, and, as usual, about 1/3 as clever as you think you are.

Re: “Report: Secret Service Asked Metro Cops to Fake A Warrant

You would never accept that distinction if the group were a racial minority. Your comment was hateful and suggests that you are bigoted against police.

Thanks for once again demonstrating your belief that you are not subject to the arguments you apply to others. That, I note, is another characteristic of bigots. It's always different, never bad, when you do it.

Re: “Report: Secret Service Asked Metro Cops to Fake A Warrant

This is why you need a dictionary--in order to meet the definition of "bigotry," hate is required (it feels as if I am repeating myself here).

"Biased." "Biased" is the word you're looking for, Mark, and I will willingly acknowledge that I have an anti-police bias.

Thanks for playing. We have some wonderful parting gifts for you.

Re: “Report: Secret Service Asked Metro Cops to Fake A Warrant

Lots of racists claim they don't hate {fill in the group} too. I never said you claimed to "hate" the police. I just said your initial comment is bigoted. You can claim whatever you want but that first statement is bigoted.

Forget the dictionary and just give me a 'Guide to Which AnglRdr Comments Apply When."

That way I can navigate your contradictory posts.

Re: “Charter Schools Enter Fray in East Nashville Plan

@keepingMyHeadLow: bananas. 80% of students at MMS are already in the gifted students' program ENCORE in MNPS.

@Curious Mind: You may be ENU. Still, you are wise to be suspicious. The first or second rung on the ladder in these debates tends to be a cynical concern troll for us po' Black folk. What about the negroes!! If I saw ENU as a threat to my plan I'd certainly consider an attempt to make a dividing line between the local Carpetbagging community and the indigenous population (a.k.a. White vs Black).

Seems that ENU was caught off guard in this respect, didn't see the wide open flank.

@Moost: I am disgusted by this: "Let the White activists squirm while the African American families choose the path they feel is too conservative." And not just the wanky sentence construction, either. If you listen to what engaged parents are concerned about you'll find that charters or choice won't automatically address these issues: safe environments, adequate resources and facilities, lack of African American teachers and the achievement gap. Don't play the Lorax when you don't speak *to* the trees.

"I don't hate cops. I do not believe the number of good vs. bad cops is at an acceptable level. I base that on evidence."

"Are there any cops that aren't scumbags?"

Angl vs Rdr.

Re: “Report: Secret Service Asked Metro Cops to Fake A Warrant

Note to self: buy Rogers a children's dictionary, since the MW is a little too advanced, apparently.

The reason you need a dictionary to understand what bigotry is is because you accuse me of a fact-free hatred. I don't hate cops. I do not believe the number of good vs. bad cops is at an acceptable level. I base that on evidence.

Your bigotry, while offensive, is hardly worth ventilating, much less hyperventilating.
