Re: “The Daily Links: Relatability, the Sale of Sex, and the Children of Gaza

I read the first two paragraphs about Gaza's children and stopped because it's another Palestinian hit piece on Israel. What I think I know about the kid's comes from something I read years ago and also something I just heard on the news: 1) Middle East Muslim children are taught to hate Israeli's in school; that's sure to mess with their heads, and 2) The UN committees that keep asking Israel to stop the fighting are dominated by pro-Hamas individuals whose bias basically endorses cowardly thugs who use the neighborhood children as shields when fighting a war.

Re: “An Update on Political Donors of Ill-Repute

Teachers have had no bargaining rights law in Tennessee, since 2011, when the EPNA was repealed by the General Assembly. The successor law, PECCA, is not a bargaining law. It's a meaningless piece of Republican propaganda.

The Scott Desjarlais campaign will catch fire any day now. . . .

Re: “An Update on Political Donors of Ill-Repute

Even public school teachers' ability to collectively bargain was gutted a couple of years ago. So they're not that far ahead of the rest of state employees.

Public labor unions in Tennessee have very little clout.

On the other hand, CCA has legislators who'll make sure laws are written keep the jails full. They even negotiate contracts that require prisons be kept near capacity or the state has to pony up the difference. They privatize the profits and socialize the losses.

Re: “The Daily Links: Jon Bon Jovi, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Gambler's Fallacy

Who really cares if the Dems lose the Senate in Nov? The GOP should have won it four years ago. It's not like they will be able to roll any of Obama's laws back with a two vote majority. And the Dems will likely not only win back the majority in 2016 (they will have much better numbers then), they will probably take back more than they lost in 2014 and keep the WH. Demographics are not the GOP's friend right now. In 2014, the Dems are defending more seats than the Reps, and they have for the two previous cycles also. That will end after this election. This is their last shot. The Tea Party has cost them the last two. And with Scalia and Kennedy getting up there in age, the SCOTUS will be up for grabs finally. Like john, I like what I see.

Re: “An Update on Political Donors of Ill-Repute

Considering the state of the teachers union, I doubt they cause you any real angst, other than ideological. That being said, I fail to see any conflict of interest with their political activity. If that is the case, churches and representatives of churches should be disallowed to participate in the political process due to their various tax exemptions.

"except for teachers" is a pretty large exception.

Re: “An Update on Political Donors of Ill-Repute

If public labor unions were allowed to collectively bargain in Tennessee, I'd agree with you.

But -- except for teachers -- they are forbidden from doing so.

Re: “An Update on Political Donors of Ill-Repute

I equate that relationship with that of public labor unions. Neither should be putting money into the political process.

But Prag, he quotes the bible and prays and is funny with funny relatives, doesn't that make him right, especially with social commentary that he knows so little about factually. My preacher said so!

WOW! Is Phil Valentine commenting again????
Shariah Law???? Yeah, had to shop today for Hijab's, Balaclavas, and non-flammable Korans (sarcasm for the illiterate).
Typical wing nut rhetoric, relatively anonymous like Klan literature scattered in the driveway!

Re: “An Update on Political Donors of Ill-Repute

It should be illegal for a company that makes all of its revenue from tax dollars to contribute some of that money back to legislators for their political campaigns.

It reeks of conflict of interest.

There's no problem with those companies lobbying all they want to, but this is a little too incestuous.
