Re: “Looney Turns Down MNPS, Will Remain in Williamson County

Foolish suggestion and reasoning about Looney. He returns for a considerable raise, almost the same as MNPS the 1st year. WCS lacks many of the inherent problems that come with MNPS, including a sizable ELL pool. As far as the board situation, WCS board is about as fractured as MNPS.
You are just so wrong here.

Re: “Looney Turns Down MNPS, Will Remain in Williamson County

At some point we Davidson County residents will have to decide what to do about the cluster bleep known as MNPS School Board. Let's remember that it was this same Board than ran away Dr Register.i think Looney was truly interested but once he got a closer look at the unqualified and inept Board ( yes you Pinkston, Frogge, and Gentry) he did the smart thing and ran in the other direction. I would like to suggest we disband the current Board and start from scratch with replacing them.

"who will cover up all of the danner family "dirt" now?"

I know when Ray Danner used to play in local golf tournaments, the best club in his bag was the pencil.

Head Pro: "What did you team shoot Ray?"

Ray Danner: "What do we need?"

Re: “Former President Jimmy Carter on a lifetime of service, the Confederate flag and other issues in advance of his Nashville book signing

"The Ford v Carter Election was the last one in Amerika where we had a choice between two equally truly good men."

At the time, a lot of people thought it was a choice between two equally vapid and mediocre candidates. But Ford and Carter do look good compared to the bozos running for office these days.

A patron of the arts, a civic leader. Didn't know him well but every interaction was a positive one.

Re: “A lavish rite of teenage passage opens a window onto Middle Tennessee's Hispanic communities — and their growing economic power

Further you didn't read then story. It talks about the financial strain that the parties put on families. Mr Angel is not rich, he is a landscaper, he contributed $2000 and relatives chipped in the rest.

While I too think its a lot of money to spend on anything, I think we should get out of the habbit of telling people we perceive as poor what to spend money on.People make budget choices all the time and know their finances better than anyone else. Maybe they'll never be able to save up enough to make a dent in the things you mentioned, but can save a few grand to throw a party that seems important to their daughter, community and family.

Re: “Boom Town Chats: What Does the City of Nashville Need?

Okay, which management company currently operating a Nashville charter is fire profit? Next, name all the current vendors for MNPS who are non profit suppliers? How does anyone think all vendors for charters should be non profit while it is okay that MNPS employs for profit vendors? Have you checked the boards of textbook companies?

Re: “Boom Town Chats: What Does the City of Nashville Need?

Charter schools themselves are not for profit by kaw. But managing corporations can be, a d kiting of the law taken advantage of nationwide.

Re: “Looney Turns Down MNPS, Will Remain in Williamson County

Mark that would effectively give the mayor two votes on the board. The mayor and council maintain an influence over the board by budgetary control. No compromise at all on the current method of board selection. Full financial disclosure and detailed at that, should be a minimal requirement for board candidates.

Re: “Open Thread Wants to Know Your Best Farmers Market Finds

With all of the famous "improvements,' mainly subtractions, not additions, there are less choices this year than ever before, and with the weekend summer crowd there to "see" all of the "charming" little vendors and then wait in line to eat, not shop, , it can take a half hour to park. Hardly worth the effort.
