Re: “Stay-at-Home Moms: Can't Afford to Work and Can't Afford Not to

So I assume you are in favor of readily available contraception, sex education, and even abortion when necessary? The fact of the matter is people in their youth have less than discriminate sex, often resulting in unwanted and/or unwise pregnancy. Some are the results of ignorance about contraception, or worse, unavailable contraception. Remember the war against the evil Planned Parenthood? The powers that be simply give lip service to the problem, even to the point of regurgitating that old chestnut: "Just Say No" (how unreal)! Of course this is simply the end result of loose women according to the Guru's of the "moral majority" such as Huckabee and Limbaugh and other self righteous arrogant bastards. Until we can adequately address the mysteries and realities of sex education; until we cease to demonize and destroy organizations that work tirelessly to alleviate the scourge of unwanted pregnancy; until we realize that these young women are our daughters and neighbors and fellow citizens often just short on luck or advantage, we will continue this vicious cycle and continue to blame the wrong perpetrators.

Re: “Stay-at-Home Moms: Can't Afford to Work and Can't Afford Not to

I didn't see anything about the demographics in the story that surprised me, such as the fact that women with more education are more likely to work outside the home. Usually, more education translates to more job opportunities.

For once, I don't particularly disagree with Moost. Single parents have a hugely difficult task, regardless of how their situation developed.

I know about lots of things, but I don't have an answer for this one.

Re: “Stay-at-Home Moms: Can't Afford to Work and Can't Afford Not to

This is a problem because loose female women can't control their libidos! They should settle down, find a good man to take care of them, and then have as many babies as they want! I agree with Betsy that women should be staying home, but they need to get the order correct! But the Demoncrats clean up with the loose women vote so expect for them to continue to encourage young female women to be slutty!

@John: Evidently the definition of "bigot" by liberal Pith posters is someone who doesn't make or accept excuses for behavior because of skin color, religion, or sexual behavior, and you can expect it to be applied anytime they don't have a commonsense reply for your comments.

I'm calling BS on that whole tirade, "commentator". That wasn't my experience at all, nor is it the experience of many who take the state required HCP class.

I think you made it all up.

Re: “Stay-at-Home Moms: Can't Afford to Work and Can't Afford Not to

The way more common scenario is even sadder than the abuse or death ones. What do you do with all those women, mostly uneducated who have a child or children without a true partner. Yes it was their personal choice, but the decisions they have made are almost assuredly going to lock their children into the same life, regardless of how many government programs try to help.

Too many women are making the same wrong personal choices their parents and eventually their children make. And the choice is trapping them. Fixing it is a Herculean task that is rarely accomplished. The numbers of people making this choice are destroying communities, with very few people wanting to offend the people making the personal but wrong choice.

Before society figures out the work-or-not question, individuals need to figure out the baby-or-not one.

Re: “Tennessee: Where You Can Openly Carry a Gun but Not a Shillelagh

What really scares me? The people who were around me in my carry class were scarier than the residents of Raylon Givens' imaginary Harlan. The instructor promised us "Don't worry, you will pass the test, you will get your permit here today."

But gosh, he had to like, read the answers to some of the people, tell some of them what kind of gun they had, show them how to load it, and practically wipe for them after they used the rest room. And now our legislators want to fix it so they don't even have to go to a class or make any kind of effort. Just grab your gun, the feud is on! They won't even know to holler, 'I feel threatened!" before they blow the offender of their sensibilities to kingdom come.

"Law abiding citizens legally carrying firearms" has never scared me, I've carried my share. But those folks in my carry concealed class scared me. They were lots of friggin' people of low intelligence with big ideas about what all they were going to shoot as soon as they got that permit.

Re: “The Daily Links: Kiss, Comcast, and Crossing Chris Christie

There is another breaking story on the site that the mainstream media is too afraid to cover!

"Report: EPA tested deadly pollutants on humans to push Obama admin’s agenda"

I'm sorry. I made a mistake when I typed "too afraid to cover". That should have been "too sane to cover". Please forgive the typo.

Re: “Tennessee: Where You Can Openly Carry a Gun but Not a Shillelagh

While it is true that firearms do NOT have freewill, their operators certainly do, and society enacts laws to restrict such free will that is deemed dangerous. If it were possible to limit the carry of ANY weapon to only those of pure and legal intent, then some going armed in times of a lack of national emergency would cause little logical anxiety. That however is simply a pipe-dream despite a legal requirement for permission. Take such a requirement away, as some obviously wish, and the quality of life for those who have a reasonable grasp of the evil and reckless behavior that beats within some hearts will be severely damaged. All this may do is sell more guns and holsters for the benefit of those manufacturers and retailers at the root of such a push.

my face is straight and yes I do, john. I may be an atheist but I have friends and family that are quite religious. I am able to hold conflicting ideas in my head without prejudice. I'm a decently nice guy and interested in all of life's rich pageant.

All terms are made-up terms.

Re: “Tennessee: Where You Can Openly Carry a Gun but Not a Shillelagh

Of all the made-up terms ever invented, hoplophobia must surely be the silliest. The term, commonly understood to mean "fear of guns" was coined by gun writer Jeff Cooper in about 1962. The problem is that, while "phobia" does translate as "fear," hoplon translates as "shield." The distinctive shield they carried gave the Greek hoplites their name. At no time, of course, did any hoplite ever carry a gun, openly or otherwise.

It should come as no real surprise that hoplophobia is NOT recognized as a disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, the standard work of reference for psychologists and psychiatrists.

Say what you will about conservatives, they excel at coming up with disparaging, game-changing nonsense labels for policies they desperately oppose. See also "death tax," "death panels," and "Obamacare."

The Daily Caller rules! In your face libtards! Thank you Brother Yoyo for including that link since no one on the Scene staff has the balls to include a real journalistic site like that one!

You hoplophobes don't have to worry - the bill died in committee and won't go the House for a vote. You can now go back to wetting your beds and cowering in the corner at the thought of law-abiding citizens openly carrying firearms.
