Re: “The Fur Flies Tonight as Chappy Faces Off With Gordon Ramsay

I finally got to watch the episode on DVR. A couple thoughts: first of all, the frequent prominent placement of the Scene "Best of" award was...unfortunate. But at least it was a Reader's Award and not an Editor's Pick, so that's on y'all. 8^)

And the random man on the street interview with passers by that included Matt Bolus, one of my favorite extremely talented Nashville chefs? I gotta call shenanigans on that one.

Re: “Another New 'Cue Review (Part 2): Slow and Low BBQ Bistro

Went over at lunch today and it's pretty darn good. Between us, we had the brisket sandwich, wings and pork sandwich. both the brisket and pork were really good but the wings were a pleasant surprise. I was expecting more of a smoked wing like Smoking Monday at the Corner Pub in Green Hills - which are exceptional. These were more bbq'd, if that makes any sense. They had a little bark, came sausy but not sticky. Really, really good. We had two sides, slaw and fries and they were both good but nothing outstanding. They've expanded their saused since you were there, Chris, and have 4-5. Took a small sample of each and thought they were good. Ended up switching between the hot and the Carolina vinegar. All in all, really good food and the staff went out of their way to help us. We'll be back - soon.

@Tommy -- Roast beef and debris po'boys are awesome! Perhaps the most famous is the Ferdi Special from Mother's in New Orleans, which adds ham to the roast beef, debris and gravy. Check it out if you're ever in New Orleans:

Re: “McDonald's on Broadway Finally Set to Rebuild and Reopen Later This Year

Will it be rebuilt in its current location or built to the street as the regs require?

Re: “The Fur Flies Tonight as Chappy Faces Off With Gordon Ramsay

Ha, "roast beef w/debris" - thought it was an auto-spell-correct error. Found it's a typically charming Cajun colloquialism.

Do the restaurant owners on Kitchen Nightmares just *never* watch the show before Gordon and crew come to film? I'm always amazed they don't at least hose out the walk-ins!

If you like KN, watch the British version on Youtube, it's sooo much more entertaining! And believable!

Can't contribute much else except to admit although I have always wanted to try Chappy's, their prices kept me away. $30 entrees don't fly in Nashville. Even with a Groupon, $15 for crawfish etoufee is too much!

Lastly, I am going to suppress the urge to comment about "Starr" and her plastic surgery, because I am nice that way.

BTW, Anyone else notice there seems to be a review war going on with Bro's and other Cajun places on Urbanspoon and other review sites?

Re: “The Fur Flies Tonight as Chappy Faces Off With Gordon Ramsay

Actually, "Chappy's Po'Boys" might work if you made it a fast-casual place with NOLA sandwiches (and no gingham or barn wood). Start pumping out some decent shrimp, oyster, and roast beef w/debris on Leidenheimer bread and a good muffaleta? Works for me...

Re: “The Fur Flies Tonight as Chappy Faces Off With Gordon Ramsay

I love the original Chappy's and Ive been recently and I loved it. I dont see a Po Boys or Cracker Barrel type place working there at all. I cant believe they did that. I wonder what i cost him to put the restaurant back in shape.

Who needs an 'edit button' for the difference between wood and would? This thread is phenomenal. The show was phenomenal. I have never eaten at Chappy's, and still won't. I guess I'll never know the truth.

Watching it now, and regardless of anyone's opinion of the food, that walk-in was absolutely foul. Ridiculous.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: Best Milkshake in Town?

I had a great shake at Bobby's downtown location.

Unrelated to shakes- Gifford's Bacon is the best bacon I've ever had. Ever.

Re: “The Fur Flies Tonight as Chappy Faces Off With Gordon Ramsay

Chappy's is back to its original quality food.Thank heavens! We have eaten there many times since it opened. We even celebrated our fiftieth wedding anniversary there with a large group of family from all over the country. The food and service was spectacular. We and many of our guests have eaten at restaurants coast to coast and across the world. They know good food! I'm glad to look forward to going again soon. Bernie and Mary

Re: “The Fur Flies Tonight as Chappy Faces Off With Gordon Ramsay

Wow, I must have gone on the one good night that he's had since he's been open based on all the other comments. I went about a year ago via a Groupon offer and had a really good meal. The butter thing, I didn't really get but our meal was really good. I honestly can't remember what I had but my wife had the bbq shrimp and loved it. We both commented on how good it was and were glad that we had tried it and promised to give it another try. We haven't yet but look forward to it.

I've also been at several caterred events at my daughter's school that he's done and they were all good, too.

Re: “The Weekly Open Thread: Best Milkshake in Town?

The spiked shakes at Burger Republic are amazing, if you want a milkshake with a kick. The Vanilla Maple Bourbon is my favorite. My kids swear by the 'normal' shakes, especially the Maple Bacon and the White Chocolate Strawberry shakes.

We also like the shakes at The Pharmacy.
