Re: “Ken's Sushi Building Smashed; New Ken's Sushi Location Launches

To clarify - I would hate to see a successful place like Ken's fall by the wayside because of the area. I've lived in that part of Nashville for long enough to see places like Genie's Persian Restaurant close because of the lack of interest from the neighbors.
The neighborhood is predominately an immigrant community that can't even support a donut shop. I'm sure rent is low which makes it attractive, but you have to know the market you're in.
It's unfortunate they lost their original location on the east side.

Re: “Nashville Originals' Restaurant Week Returns on Monday

Jason McConnell also has deals at Red Pony and 55 South. Seems like a deal at that price if you've ever had a meal at one of Jason's spots... Love me some Jason McConnell yummies...

Re: “Ken's Sushi Building Smashed; New Ken's Sushi Location Launches

Okay, this comment amazes me "Quite possibly one of the worst locations for sushi in Nashville. Bolton's failed miserably in the same building. There's not much in the way of options besides fast food, tacos, and a kabob place. Vinh Long seems to be doing ok, but they've been there for years and years."
The person posting that is in the 37210 zip code, which is PRACTICALLY THAT NEIGHBORHOOD. You think they'd be happy there's sushi, and great sushi at that, in their own neighborhood. What gives?

Re: “Ken's Sushi Building Smashed; New Ken's Sushi Location Launches

It's technically "East" Thompson Lane at that point. Thompson Lane turns into Briley Parkway if you continue straight. If you turn off Thompson Lane right before the point it becomes Briley Parkway then that road is called East Thompson Lane.

@Michael Gowing — it's near Thompson Lane.

1108 Murfreesboro Pike... What is that near?

Re: “Ken's Sushi Building Smashed; New Ken's Sushi Location Launches

Just to clarify -- this isn't demolition, it's vandalism. The building where Ken's was, along with the adjacent Landmark restaurant and Wendy's, also due for demo, still stand. It's blocked off with wire fencing, so presumably the demo will take place soon to make way for the Buckingham project.

Plus Vinh Long has a tiny space and folks like me who'll travel in from the suburbs for a steaming bowl of Bo Kho and an iced vietnamese coffee. Dairy King does very well in that area too, but they have also been at it for years...

Re: “Open Thread — Listage: Southern Living Loves Nashville, Bon Appétit Does Not

Ok, fine, while we're being pedantic: On Southern Living's "Ones to Watch" list, the author says she will list a baker's dozen, then lists twelve restaurants. Huh?

I hope they do well.

Cashville- you can request a second recycling bin for free! We had the same issue and recently got a second bin. It makes a huge difference!

Re: “Composting Saves Landfill Space, Enriches Gardens and Farms, and Helps the Environment

When we bought our house this year, we started composting and got curbside recycling--it has changed everything. I had no idea how much food waste we made. Between two people, now we generate about a bag of trash a week, maybe. Everything else gets composted or recycled. Of course now our recycling bin is super full all the time and they only pick it up once a month, but that's another issue.

Great article - I would love to see Tennessee get more actively involved in a program like this. I just recently started composting myself and love it. Makes me feel a lot less bad about forgetting about some veggie in the back of the drawer when it goes to the compost instead of the trash.

Re: “Is Cappuccino-Flavored Potato Chip Creator Chad Scott the Most Reviled Man in America?

The Wasabi Ginger is a true winner in this contest. That's a flavor that could easily remain on the shelves. Mango Salsa is more of a citrus-y chip with a bit of "salsa" spice on the back end. Not bad. I've got to agree with supragirl about the Bacon Mac 'n' Cheese. It tried so hard, but it failed. I've yet to try the Cappucino. Some things done cannot be undone, and tasting this would haunt me.

Re: “A Sign and Some Menu Items Revealed at the New Sutler

yeah such a shame!!! We used to have lunch there once a week, and there were always rumors it would re-appear.

They're not after our money tnnmark. Remember the chili dogs you could get in the pool room underneath the old Sutler? The old Sutler is gone forever.
