Re: “How'd Vince Young go from invincible to indefensible — and will he ever come back?

His stats do speak for themselves:

Over his career, the Titans have about a 30% better winning percentage when he starts. For comparison, Brady improves the Pats' percentage by about 30%, while Montana, Elway, and Aikman were all less than 20% better,

If you look at his per pass rates, he's equal to or better than those guys.

Compare Vince at age 27 to elite QBs at that age:

Vince- 98.6 QB Rating
Manning- 99.0
Aikman- 99.0
Brees- 96.2
Favre- 95.8
Montana- 94.6
Brady- 92.6
Elway- 83.4
Steve Young- 72.2

Somehow people still want to think that his winning percentage is a product of his team, that he can't throw, that he doesn't work (how then do you explain his improvement over the years), that he can't handle adversity (how many 4th quarter comebacks has he led?), or that he's not smart enough to play QB.

Here's what Fisher said in 2006: "In training camp, we wanted to expose him to our offense and add a little more each week, But Vince picked things up so fast that we never felt we had to back off. There were no limitations."

He is a bit childish and certainly is a poor loser. Do you want a good loser as your QB?

Re: “How'd Vince Young go from invincible to indefensible — and will he ever come back?

Yeah Dirk-------, that's true. A truism O J, Pacman and Michael Vick have also relied upon. And only Michael made it work for himself. By keeping his mouth shut and playing ball, spectacularly. What he was hired to do. Long hours of meditation and introspection during the Leavenworth hiatus probably nailed that down for him.

Given oft repeated benchings accompanied by sophomoric snits, Vince needs to stash his millions safely away, keep his mouth shut and let the Bud Adams/Jeff Fisher soap opera play out. And who knows, he might even get to play again.

Ain't no guarantee of that though. Vince needs to face up to it. His stats speak for themselves. Which is the best card he has to play. So shut up, sit down in the corner and wait. Just one more outburst will likely make him damaged goods to any NFL football organization. And then he can go the Pacman/Alan Iverson route.

Unfortunately, it seems to me Vince more than likely is headed toward obscurity and eventual poverty. It's a shame. But those are the fruits of adolescent behavior in this big, bad world.

As long as you're sucking wind, there's a chance for redemption.

Re: “Vanderbilt Coach Kevin Stallings on what he's learned at midlife

What a contrast between Coach Stallings and another tennessee coach and one the next state up. Kevin Stallings is a man of integrity and does things "the right way". I'm grateful for the glimpse inside his personal life and especially to know that there's more to his life than his occupation. If someone asked him, "What do you do?" His response would be, "About what?"

God Bless Kevin Stallings...GO 'DORES!

Re: “Calling all able-bodied, loud-mouthed Music City sports fans — the Nashville Rollergirls need you this weekend at Municipal Auditorium

killah, good to know! (about the seating; the title of the piece is just rather unfortunate)

Re: “Calling all able-bodied, loud-mouthed Music City sports fans — the Nashville Rollergirls need you this weekend at Municipal Auditorium

Since many skaters end up being cripples themselves before their derby tenure ends, everyone able-bodied or otherwise is encouraged to show their support. All joking aside, there's handicapped seating available at every game if this is a real concern.

I think its pretty obvious that they are saying no living vegetables or cripples. They just don't like "their kind."

Are you saying people with disabilities aren't able to cheer?

Uh, so why do people need to be "able-bodied" to sit in the stands - is Municipal not accessible to people with disabilities?

Re: “As the Big Ten Conference ponders expansion, what lies ahead for Vanderbilt, UT and MTSU?

I would sincerely enjoy seeing MT in a more high-profile conference. I attended MTSU and have followed various facets of the university since my graduation in 1985. Football has made huge strides.

As to RA's comments, no doubt Middle football is, potentially, a sleeping giant (as much as, if not more so, Memphis football. The key difference in the two athletics programs is that Memphis has one sport (men's basketball) that is nationally known, competitive and tradition packed. Middle has none (although women's hoops is quickly emerging). Of course, one could argue this is all about football. In that respect, MT might come out fine.

Re: “As the Big Ten Conference ponders expansion, what lies ahead for Vanderbilt, UT and MTSU?

MT has been D1 for less than 10 years, and it is growing a new breed of fan base that enjoys big time college athletics. MT is more of a sleeping giant in football than Memphis, a team that Middle has dominated two years in a row.

Re: “As the Big Ten Conference ponders expansion, what lies ahead for Vanderbilt, UT and MTSU?

MTSU has beaten Vanderbilt three times in a row. Vandy canceled the remaining contract in fear (partially) of making it four in a row. While transitional pains are certain, MTSU could compete in any conference.

Re: “A post-bout free-for-all makes last Saturday's mixed-martial-arts event Strikeforce look straight outta Palookaville

Without a doubt, the post event brawl was an embarrassment not only to CBS but to Nashville and the entire Southeast. This is just what Dana White wanted and it was handed to him with a neat little bow on top. Many believe that "someone" may have paid Miller and his crew to make the scene and I for one see that as entirely possible. Miller is on his way out and had no reason to do such a thing without a big payoff. Secondly, someone "let" the group into the ring with Shields. One can use their imagination on how that happened, especially when even in the nose bleed section fan's tickets were checked at every move. But, this is just my opinion.

Many don't understand MMA, especially those that don't want to do a little research to find out what the sport is really about But if you look a little deeper, you can see the art of the sport relatively easily. The fans that boo when the fight is on the ground for a minute or two are usually those that are there to see the blood and guts, so to speak. The reality is that the bulk of true MMA fans appreciate the difficulty of the multifaceted sport and appreciate the professionalism and discipline it takes to be successful in MMA. They like the roughness of it all, sure, but they know that a submission is just as exciting as a knockout if you understand the game.

And, just like every other sport that entails anything resembling physical competition, there are going to be people that just have to speak out against it. That is their right, even though they may be wrong. For those people, there are board games and baby dolls. To each his/her own.

I for one hope that CBS will consider coming back to Nashville. I thought they had a great show overall. Yes, they need to put Strikeforce in a rear naked choke for a minute or two and set them straight on who runs the show, but we have seen this type of thing in every sport on every network at some point so the general population wasn't terribly surprised and will likely buy two tickets instead of one the next time MMA comes to Nashville.

I have to go now and clean my knuckles. It appears as though I drug them through some mud. lol

I know what the problem is. The problem is six year old girl hands.

Re: “Before Vanderbilt fans seek therapy over the early exit at the NCAA tourney, they should take another peek at the bigger picture

There was nothing wrong with the Commodore's game plan against Murray State: go to the rim, get fouled and make the free throws. Problem was, they didn't make the free throws. 17 for 29, after averaging over 72% all season. This is not a problem coaching can solve, at least not at game time. One thing about being a Vanderbilt fan: you learn to live with disappointment. I have been going to Vanderbilt football and basketball games for more that 50 years now, and what I mainly felt after the game was disappointment for Kevin Stallings and Jermaine Beal. Kevin will tell you that he let the team down, but in fact the team let him and Jermaine down. Those are the two I feel sorry for. Kevin will be back next year, but Jermaine won't. Being elected First Team All-SEC won't take the sting out of that defeat, nor the one in the SEC Tournament against Mississippi State, or on Senior Night against South Carolina. The team owed Jermaine at least one of those three games.

David, I think you do a great job covering the Commodores, but I think this piece is way off. What's the point? Are Vanderbilt fans irrationally disappointed? Should we be content with making the tournament? We'd welcome your thoughts to our critique on www.vanderbiltsportsline.com

Re: “If the Super Bowl halftime shows are getting too old or too risqué, maybe a Music Row superstar is in order

I think it would be awesome, if Garth would do the half time show at the Superbowl. He is Awesome, in concert and they need to have his gorgeous wife Miss Trisha Yearwood with him. She has a gorgeous voice and they are so cute and good together!!!!! Great idea......

What a great story - I don't know a single Rays fan that is not a Price fan. Hoping that his entire (hopefully Hall-of-Fame) career is spent in St. Pete.
