Re: “Love-Hate Mail

Thank you Walter Jowles for your recent story and confessions concerning felines and duct tape. It made me laugh, what a gift for today.

Sorry, Paul King, but your claims of "Nashville's overwhelming conservative population" are simply delusional and in contrafactual. To address the most obvious point: you cite Al Gore's statewide loss in 2000 as supposed support for your argument, but if you actually look at the numbers, Gore lost TN *despite* winning Nashville/Davidson County by a 58-41 margin (source: uselectionatlas.org). Then in 2004, Kerry carried the county 55-45. Last fall, Obama whalloped McCain 60-39 in our fair metropolitan area. I had to go back to 1988 to find a year in which the Democrat lost a presidential vote in Davidson county. Doesn't sound much like an overwhelmingly conservative city to me.

Some readers miss the point on the tennis equal pay. Some equate # of sets with value or work. Tennis, like the US Open, is like any other entertainment event........you pay for the stars......not how long they play. Oprah gets millions for 1 hour a day. Why should she make 50+ times as much as Bill O'Reilly who also does 1 hour? Because people will pay to see it. They demand it, that is what drives the price(winner's share) not equality of work. Can't believe we are still explaining this to the rear guard.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

Non-discriminatory laws infer that the government can intervene into a private corporation or business and force them into hiring all classes of people. Trespassing laws keep undesirables off one's property that they choose not to associate with. By extension, a company or corporation has the same rights as individuals holding title to the company. As a private entity, it has the right to choose with whom it will associate and when. The 1st and 14th amendment intends that the property owner has rights of association, assembly, and speech in regards to his property, possessions, business, etc. This negates the hiring of certain classes of individuals if so desired. The government does not own a person or the extension; a company or corporation. Since 1964, the Civil Rights Act has allowed a 'slippery-slope' in this area to include all forms of behavior to be accepted by law. The emphasis on 'group rights' strips away individual rights. By implication, the government is stealing jurisdiction from individuals and their extensions of business. By altering the original intent of the Civil Rights Act to include behavior along with race, the door is open for forced acceptance of all types of behavior. Where does one draw the line if we use arbitrary ethics as our foundation for truth?

real good music presents Nashville's first Honkytonk Art Fest. 5 great local bands: KimMystry, Bj Omalley, Rebecca Jed, The Jones', and Gabe Zander, 3 great local artist's: Will Van Zandt, Rudy Siciliano, and Austin & Ryder, and i would like to have some one from the nashville scene there on September 5, 2009 at the Foobar Too to review this magical event. Artist are going to be painting live art that will be raffled off at the end of the night, and 50 percent of the door goes to rondald mcdonald house.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

Hype and Funny Money - 7/18/2001 We interupt this transmission of Love and Hate leaks to bring you an important note of encouragement! "Hate is not a family value." Now an important message about privacy and the internet. I want to warn you...This isn't what you might think. It is more propaganda. As an 'obcessed writer' I need to write. I am motivated and inspired by the events of my life, yet, you won't find the usual maundering here, unless of course the internet at large starts paying 8-bit metal bands to translate whatever it is they are screaming about...Creating and perpetrating internet fraud and other small crimes? Not to worry this bothersome sometimes annoying phase is temporary, I think? They are not noisey, just opinionated. Violating and infringing upon copy-right law is not a joke. This is a joke. "As nothing original originates here, and is intented to be nothing more than entertainment; Nobody important lives here. I have no life." This stuff is not my invention, generally speaking these events are conjured by others...WHO? Is all this just a figment of my imagination? All these characters online are, ficticious, any resemblance to anyone real; alive or deceased, is purely coinsidental. What does that mean? Because of the diversity of internet veination the possibilities for all this are endless. Basically, I am motivated to make more friends than slush. Is it possible to meet 4,000 friends in less than one day... This concept is flawed. Be real, being 'blessed' by all intensive purposes is just as cool as being 'bullied' not to mention cool whatever that is... Is anyone on the internet of this Earth? Who else feels as though the internet is a rip off and hates it? As a writer I investigate different opportunities in order to secure my investments.B.S. you are a spamer. Money is an issue but, not the focus of my message. In the nineties we became no stranger to this sort of criminal, their legacy continues. Anyone with the need for power control and dominance is totally and unequivicably sickening. At the pit of my stomach is an apathy for this particular situation. Do not give them any money if you can help it. Not to mention all the pop-ups, cookies, and movie trailers, at the worst they are annoying. Our privacy has been mutilated and more! Why do these people insist upon maintaining a continuous line on perpetrating these crimes? I ask because I want to understand; why do you think it a novelty to destroy a persons credit or even worse? Drive a friend to the movies. What are you gonna do? The problem: I cannot say why the problem persists only that these inividuals are vaccant, a vacuole of ethical principles...They are for the most part unrestrained and free to commit this crime seemingly at their leisure, which is, in my opinion how easy it is for them...And unfortunately how ignorant they see all the rest of us; those who have no interest in using the technology for criminal activity. There is nothing right about the activities of these persons, they gloat at their intellect when it wasn't even invented by them. At this point they are nothing more than 'scripters'. I do not want to participate in their sport because there's not anything I want to know so bad that I have to steal the information to get it. This is a public site, I know, I would be more amiable if I was receiving an appropriate salary. I would be less inspiring to them though which is the reality of their unscrupulous nature. My advice to all who read this ban television and radio stations as a means to receive information...Examine, if you will, the time you spend on the internet. Do you just hate yourself or what? Other Missions: 1.Boycott the multi-media complex as a source for entertainment/information. 2. Go outside and get some fresh air. 3.Pursue your online projects, whatever, they might be, provided it involves legal activities. 4.Maintain and update these endeavors whatever it might involve, as it changes, we'll call it a quiet evolvolution. 5. Flyby Earth once every great while so we may be reminded what you really look like. The first step toward this is to unplug your computer, television, game, radio, and flush all your medication secondly, avoid reading any material published by any corporate entities. Do this as a favor to yourself unleash your personal power and contribute to the world at large...You remember a thing called humanity. Walk in the light of your humanity without a cell phone in your ear. Free youself. How stupid is that idea really! Be well and behave but only on a good day or when ever you want to. And remember when you break a nail texting there is always fix-a-flat. Bye. next week...Paper pulp and detergent don't mix.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

There are many laws that are mis bent to arrest homeless folks that were not meant for the purpose they are being enforced. There are violations of homeless people's civil rights that are being violated on a regular basis. There are some homeless people who are unfortunately doing a life sentance one day at a time bucause they are on the radar and cannot do or be different than they are. We are crimanalizing the homeless in Nashville and in a lot of other cities in America. Open container law was designed for being in a car with an open container. But it is used to arrest homeless people but ignored when they have the wine tasting events on the Shelby Bridge and at Titan's talegatting parties. I just want laws to be enforced the same for all. It is not happening. Blocking the right of way was designed to keep big trucks from stopping on streets and keeping others from being able to pass. But it is used to arrest a homeless person with a backpack larger than his back. They arrest homeless now for aggressive pan handleing if at an intersection but kids with buckets ren to cars begging for money, often with no adult supervision, and nothing is done. The use of blocking the entrance to a public building sitting on the front steps of the Custom House when they are not an entrance at all and only a fire exit. Arresting homeless peoples for this is sad. After all we are being denied access to public space. We the people -- all the people -- should have access to public spaces. Homeless people are on their feet most of the time. I am over 50 and walk aroung downtown a lot myself and there is not enough places to sit downtown for anybody. The little spiked fences, no trespassing signs and those BS ATM machines placed to be able to take advantage of the Panhandleing law. I have not tried to use any of them to see if they even have money in them. And as far as 211 I have been a service provider for 20 years and have had to complain to get information I know was in the system and where are the pay phones anyway? They are scarcer than benches. I'm just saying that in order to understand the harrassment, the system's unfairness and the way people treat homeless people you have to be educated about the injustices. When events are downtown there are sweeps done to arrest homeless people. This is fact, not just here but everywhere. If you donot believe it then go down town, before a run, walk, or scheduled downtown event and just sit on a wall, wear the clothes you have in bottom of your hamper, take a backpack and a couple of little sacks and see if you might get to go to jail for the weekend. But they will let you out if you plead guilty with time served. Say you are innocent and you maybe there a month or two at least. There is no pre release, no bond money for homeless folks. Just try it. Get a group of college student and go sit on the Custom House Steps, you won't get arrested. But homeless people do. There is a war of sorts against the homeless. Not everybody does is aware of it, or wants to believe it. But it is real. On the streets there is no freedom of speech, no freedom of peaceful assembly, no equal rights. We were the first downtown residents. Low income housing with services is cheaper and makes more sence. We supliment the Preditor's rent but it is like we ask for the impossible when we ask for housing that we can afford. We had 2200 kids with no addresses in Metro's school system last year. We have more than 500 homeless veteran's on our streets every night, mostly vietnam Vets but they are coming home from Bush's War homeless. We have had people with mental illness on the streets since Reagan. These are not 'by choice' homeless. This community does have good services for some things but they are also arresting or threatening to arrest good church folds who are trying to feed homeless folks. This is why I am glad for articles that show the plight of my brothers and sisters still on the streets.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

No offense intended to victims and their families of violent sexual assaults, but the “statutory” laws in all states are insane and DA’s are prosecuting young kids/teens and young men with laws enacted to protect our kids and teens. I am not condoning pre-teen and teenage sexual promiscuity, but think back to when you were kids/teens and you played games such as truth-or-dare, doctor, seven-minutes-in-heaven, spin the bottle, or went 'parking'. What was once 'petting' sexual exploration between consenting underage teens is now grounds for “life time registration as a sex offender” and it is the boy who always ends up being charged. Statistically under today's sex offender laws, over 95% of all youth could be convicted and registered as sex offenders for life! How many of our young boys and teens will we allow to be incarcerated, subjected to barbaric and abusive treatment (see Plethysmographs, arousal reconditioning, cognitive restructuring of juveniles) and then forced to register as Sex Offenders for the rest of their lives before we bring an end to this insanity? The current and potential legislation regarding this entire subject is seriously lacking any real protection of our children from violent predatory sex offenders. In fact more and more underage children are the ones who are being prosecuted and convicted at an alarming rate under the very laws enacted to 'protect them.'

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

I disagree with gun owners. I do not see why my 2 and 3 year old have to sit beside someone who feels the need to "pack" a gun. What if my little one bumps into a gun carrier who accidentally forgot the safety after target pratice? As for restaraunt owners prohibiting guns..Good for them. That is their establishment. I wouldn't want my business shot up by over eager gun carriers. As for all the background check and such. They do not make you good gun holders. I have seen several that have permits and are drunks..What does that say about all those checks?

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

Bravo Tracy Moore! Thank you for bringing to the forefront one of the sad undercurrents in our society, especially here in Tennessee. You artice "Teacher's Pets", is one Tennessee legislators need to read and act on! Tennessee has become a joke to much of the nation when it comes to punishment for sexual predators of the female persuaion. As a parent, I want to see tougher laws against first time offenders of rape or sexual misconduct, be they male or female! As a parent, I believe this matter needs to be taken out of the hands of the courts, who consitently offer ridiculous sentences to female offenders....these women are predators, nothing less! Enact tougher legistlation that force the courts to treat them like their male counterparts!

You have really comitted murder in this article, did you ever think of Pastor Davis's family, his wife, his kids, that are just as innocent as the Liles family members. do you think you have brought justice, i fear you have not. Justice is complete. This is why God gives Grace, and Mercy to light.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

It amazes me to think that a convicted killer can now lead a flock of people that would follow him to the ends of the earth, and give there money to him freely. The article paints a vivid picture of a spoiled child who gets angry and kills someone for getting their prized boots dirty. No questions it was very clear what happened. He got mad and committed murder. He now lives in a gated commmunity, if anything the people of Cornerstone Church should be found guilty of harboring a murderer who obviously just keeps profitting from his crime. I would have thought that the people of Nashville were smarter then that.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

I know Calvin Hullett, or rather I use to work with Calvin years ago. We came on the Police Department the very same day and worked together for a while. I always thought Calvin was grooming to become Chief one day,as he went up the ranks. I liked him back then. But it has been years and years since that time and I do not know him (per se) any more. I think Calvin just took the wrong fork in the road when he went with the teamsters. And I think the teamsters used him. I do not know all the ends and outs about all this mess, but I do know that I wish Calvin well and when he gets out of prison he will rebuild his life with his family and find some peace and move on. For all those involved who were guilty of wrong doing still wearing a badge, well, I hope you will do some deep soul searching and change your ways, before it comes back around to bite you in the butt and you end up where Calvin is as well. I love the Police and Fire Departments and I appreciate all they do. I just hate politics and rangling for power.
