I was disappointed with my experience. I was told it would be authentic mexican food experience, and I ordered a pretty easy dish- tacos- and what I got was nothing more than a ground beef soft taco easily duplicated on a value menu at Taco Bell. It was bland, nothing to savor whatsoever, and for what the bill was, I am genuinely disappointed I didn't actually eat Taco Bell...at least I would have been somewhat satisfied, and would have spent $20 less. The price of food of that caliber is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. Hope it gets better, or it won't last long, especially in that part of town. Sorry-- won't be going back.
The ceviche is excellent--could have eaten two orders of it. The queso is really exceptional--cheese melted with cream, the way it was always meant to be. Loved the vegetable crepes. We got a hot strawberry margarita that was a well-crafted cocktail. Three appetizers, three cocktails, one beverage and three entrees plus tip was $90, which is reasonable.
Coming in October....can't wait to have some great food with friends and family!
This is just awesome... I live in North Carolina and every time I go to Nashville this is the place my family and I enjoy... Way to go Frothy Monkey you guys ROCK!!!!!
I have been to Alegria and like the physical space and food has been good, but not much different than all the other Mexican restaurants. One big issue that I honestly believe did Midtown Lime in is the fact the $9 plus drinks are in short glasses stuffed with ice. There cannot be more than an ounce or two of actual liquid. This is a trend at all of Chris Hyndman's restaurants and others, but when will customers stand up and quit paying upwards of low teens for two sips of a cocktail or drink? I can afford it, but refuse to be taken. Be heard with your pocketbook.
We stopped by yesterday and got seats on the patio. Green Hills needs this place. We enjoyed every minute of our visit. The margaritas were exceptional and only 3.50 at happy hour price. We also tried the guacamole, red snapper dish and the shrimp tacos and they were great. My husband and I plan to be back this weekend.
check out this version of fish stomach cooking style... http://www.chinese-traditional-food.com/fish-stomach.html ... Cheers!!!
Went after reading this in the scene the other day. I felt like I needed to wear my sunglasses because of the paint. Couldn't figure out the ordering and they didn't have what I wanted. I was a sad panda going to this place :(
I went into this place after they first opened up.. it's funny that the bio said that his mother's origins were from Kroger because my roll tasted and looked like it was out of a grocery store. Besides the food not being up to par, the walls were loud, unlike the atmosphere (I was the only one there).. I agree the ordering was confusing. I spent a lot time trying to figure out what I could get and found myself, trying to add the multiple prices of all the add ons and figure out what would be good together.
Overall, I was unhappy and I will not be returning.
Food here is good, but it was a little pricy for what we got. And like you said everyone is nice, but they dont offer much in the line of giving suggestions. Also, the drink selection is weird, other than some strange drinks in a can, you have to go with the water cooler next to the register. It was good, but I dont think I will go back.
I love this place & eat there several times a week. I like the veggie wrap for lunch & fruit wrap for breakfast. If you can catch the black bean burger or baguette with avocado, goat cheese & tomatoes on special grab it! This is the easiest way to get local organic vegetables in you: no shopping, chopping or cooking. Try a half sandwich for a more economical option.
I'm so glad I read the comments on this page, b/c for a split second, I actually thought about going here. Granted the portion sizes alone made me apprehensive, but the comments sealed the deal. No Thanks.
Kohana serves Japanese food in the same way that Olive Garden serves Italian food. And in a metaphysical moment for my simile, the "soba" we were served was actually whole wheat cappellini. Just when you think Nashvillians might start caring about something other than serving size, along comes this US Food Service muck. No thanks; never again.
Ok, I may get shouted down for this but can we PLEASE get a new honest-to-God sushi bar that doesn't fit this either pan-asian, cheeseburger-wrapped-in-rice, or izakaya-meets-urban-flats sort of aesthetic? Not that there aren't tasty dishes to be found in those places, but I, for one, would love the added option of walking into a sushi restaurant and feel truly transported.
I know there are more traditional places around, and I think they exhibit varying degrees of success. But none rise to the level of truly transcendent to my mind.
I want to sit at the bar and leave it to the chef to tell me what's the freshest. I want the Haiku damnit.

Believe they have it at The Jam on Wedgewood, or at least they did at one time.
Delicious, some of the best gelato I've had.
But does anyone know where to get Boba Tea now that Fat Straw is gone?
Sometimes, things of historical value go over my head. I am classless, after all.
On my way over after a Drs. appt.
Can't wait YUMMMMMMMMM!
Beautifully written article. Mouth is watering at 10:15 a.m. and I cannot wait to head over there to dig in to some lovely gelato!

Best place in town! I am lactose intolerant, so I appreciate the variety of sorbettos that are always offered. They always have the classic lemon but they go above and beyond with passion fruit, lime cilantro, strawberry, watermelon, and more! It always tastes super fresh and wonderfully refreshing. We are so lucky to have this gem in Nashville!
