Another great place for hand-poured sodas is the Celtic Cup in Tullahoma, TN. Great food, craft beers, and awesome coffee & tea products- all in a rich yet comfy atmosphere. Live music Friday and Saturday nights. http://www.thecelticcup.com/
Never cared for seltzer. Yes, I'm southern. Three names and all.
While I can't speak for all Southerners, I dislike seltzer because it is reminiscent of the disgusting sulfur water that my great-grandmother used to drink to "cure" her arthritis. A trip to the sulfur well in Carthage, TN, was just...ugh..., I still shudder at the memory.
Problem is that big soda as well all know uses high fructose corn syrup which is way worse for you that sugar. Secondly, why don't southerners like seltzer?? Every time I tell one of youse how good it is, I get vomited on. A few weeks ago I went to All Seasons, bought a CO2 regulator and other parts, next stop Volunteer Welding picked up a 5lb CO2 tank and now I can make hundreds of bottles of sparkling - - whatever! You want to call it soda? Go ahead.
We initially pulled in the parking lot to go to Kohana, but it was closed so we gave Alegria a try. Service was good and the tequila list was impressive. Other than that, I think the food leaves much to be desired. The salsa had good texture, but no flavor. Not a touch of heat or even cilantro. Wine pours were not even a full pour at $9 each. Fish tacos were presented completely rolled in a tortilla. There was no texture to them as the cabbage was almost non-existence and the tartar sauce was created to try to match a store bought brand. Tarter sauce? Why not offer it with a spiced lime sauce or a remoulade to give it some flavor. Food used fresh ingredients but was not very unique or satisfying.
Loved this place. The colors of the inside are so different and inviting. You feel like you are dining in a different city. The food was perfectly presented with lots of flavors and our waiter was really friendly. I'd like to see more items on the menu very soon.
Best place in town! I am lactose intolerant, so I appreciate the variety of sorbettos that are always offered. They always have the classic lemon but they go above and beyond with passion fruit, lime cilantro, strawberry, watermelon, and more! It always tastes super fresh and wonderfully refreshing. We are so lucky to have this gem in Nashville!
I was disappointed with my experience. I was told it would be authentic mexican food experience, and I ordered a pretty easy dish- tacos- and what I got was nothing more than a ground beef soft taco easily duplicated on a value menu at Taco Bell. It was bland, nothing to savor whatsoever, and for what the bill was, I am genuinely disappointed I didn't actually eat Taco Bell...at least I would have been somewhat satisfied, and would have spent $20 less. The price of food of that caliber is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. Hope it gets better, or it won't last long, especially in that part of town. Sorry-- won't be going back.
The ceviche is excellent--could have eaten two orders of it. The queso is really exceptional--cheese melted with cream, the way it was always meant to be. Loved the vegetable crepes. We got a hot strawberry margarita that was a well-crafted cocktail. Three appetizers, three cocktails, one beverage and three entrees plus tip was $90, which is reasonable.
Coming in October....can't wait to have some great food with friends and family!
This is just awesome... I live in North Carolina and every time I go to Nashville this is the place my family and I enjoy... Way to go Frothy Monkey you guys ROCK!!!!!
I have been to Alegria and like the physical space and food has been good, but not much different than all the other Mexican restaurants. One big issue that I honestly believe did Midtown Lime in is the fact the $9 plus drinks are in short glasses stuffed with ice. There cannot be more than an ounce or two of actual liquid. This is a trend at all of Chris Hyndman's restaurants and others, but when will customers stand up and quit paying upwards of low teens for two sips of a cocktail or drink? I can afford it, but refuse to be taken. Be heard with your pocketbook.
We stopped by yesterday and got seats on the patio. Green Hills needs this place. We enjoyed every minute of our visit. The margaritas were exceptional and only 3.50 at happy hour price. We also tried the guacamole, red snapper dish and the shrimp tacos and they were great. My husband and I plan to be back this weekend.
check out this version of fish stomach cooking style... http://www.chinese-traditional-food.com/fish-stomach.html ... Cheers!!!
Went after reading this in the scene the other day. I felt like I needed to wear my sunglasses because of the paint. Couldn't figure out the ordering and they didn't have what I wanted. I was a sad panda going to this place :(
I went into this place after they first opened up.. it's funny that the bio said that his mother's origins were from Kroger because my roll tasted and looked like it was out of a grocery store. Besides the food not being up to par, the walls were loud, unlike the atmosphere (I was the only one there).. I agree the ordering was confusing. I spent a lot time trying to figure out what I could get and found myself, trying to add the multiple prices of all the add ons and figure out what would be good together.
Overall, I was unhappy and I will not be returning.
Food here is good, but it was a little pricy for what we got. And like you said everyone is nice, but they dont offer much in the line of giving suggestions. Also, the drink selection is weird, other than some strange drinks in a can, you have to go with the water cooler next to the register. It was good, but I dont think I will go back.
I love this place & eat there several times a week. I like the veggie wrap for lunch & fruit wrap for breakfast. If you can catch the black bean burger or baguette with avocado, goat cheese & tomatoes on special grab it! This is the easiest way to get local organic vegetables in you: no shopping, chopping or cooking. Try a half sandwich for a more economical option.
I'm so glad I read the comments on this page, b/c for a split second, I actually thought about going here. Granted the portion sizes alone made me apprehensive, but the comments sealed the deal. No Thanks.
Re: “Open only on Sundays, The Speckled Hen is a rare treat for brunch”
I would just like to point out that this forum is not Yelp- it is the comment section of an article regarding an entrepreneurial venture in an industry that is really tough to successfully navigate. If you knowingly went there after the article was published and had to wait- that's your own fault. Next time I suggest keeping your "reviews" to the appropriate forums. I'm just pleased to hear about the emergence of a Nashville business from talented cooks. Keep supporting your local farmers and food scene!
