Re: “Open only on Sundays, The Speckled Hen is a rare treat for brunch

It would probably be hard for me to eat brunch without coffee. I'm not sure I understand that decision.

Re: “Arnold Myint rocks his corner of the Nashville Farmers' Market

I have only had excellent service and amazing food at AM@FM. The egg salad crostini was amazing.

Re: “A chocoholic Scene writer goes gaga for Goo Goos

Beth has never mentioned that her boss looks like Jason Sudeikis. We're gonna have to have a chat about that. [side note: where can we find a red track suit?]

Anyhoo, when Beth started with GooGoo, she tipped me off to a very valuable piece of information: GooGoos are made with marshmallow creme, not marshmallow. No gelatin! Vegetarian-friendly!

Re: “Open only on Sundays, The Speckled Hen is a rare treat for brunch

I didn't realize when my daughter and I were at the market this past Sunday it was so soon after a lovely review in the Scene for this team of inspired people. We waited over an hour for our food, and the line just kept getting longer. While the portions were not huge, the flavors absolutely were but I have to say I was sorely disappointed in the potato hash which was barely a large spoonful, mine consisted of 3 small cubes of potatos and a few tablespoons of carrots...I did pay attention to other dishes that came out before and after and that was fairly common since the poor chef was overwhelmed trying to multi task with omlettes and sides and the crepes and I believe was trying to make a little go as long a way as possible..I felt absolutely awful watching his frustration level increase with the size of the lines...the food was delicious and I can only hope they have more help this Sunday as the food is worth the drive I made from Nolensville in, but they won't keep getting repeat business if customers have to wait that long...

Re: “Open only on Sundays, The Speckled Hen is a rare treat for brunch

Hi Russell-This is Rachel from The Speckled Hen-I just wanted to apologize for your experience this past Sunday. You are correct to say that we were overwhelmed by the crowd that this article brought. It's usually just a 2 person operation-we had 1 addition person to help us, but that obviously wasn't enough. We are going to add more staff and tweak the menu a bit to help us run more efficiently from now on. Thank you for your willingness to giving us another try one day-we won't let you down again!

Re: “Open only on Sundays, The Speckled Hen is a rare treat for brunch

Ate there Sunday morning, very disappointed, evidently they were overwhelmed by response to the article. They were out of several things on the menu. After 20 minute wait to order, was told food would be ready in 15 minutes, which turned into 35 minute wait. My egg, sausage biscuit was almost cold by the time I got it handed to me. Watched it set there for about 5 minutes after it was done because they were trying to figure out who got what on the orders. The cashier put plain greens(they forgot the dressing) with her bare hands on the plate right after handling money which is a big no no. Plan on giving them another shot someday but will wait until maybe they get it together. Nothing can crash a new business quicker than not being prepared for a lot of customers.

Re: “Soy Teriyaki Bistro offers a little Japanese, a lot of Korean and plenty of delight

The food is impeccable. I always get the Soy Green salad and add chicken to it. I just love the sliced avocados and fresh edamame in it.... and it's displayed so beautifully. It rocks my world. I could feast on their fried rice every single day... NO ONE makes it better. The Korean tacos, I just don't have words for except MMMMMMM. Chris, Hanna and Johnny are amazing people and run the best restaurant in Brentwood.

Re: “When it comes to feeding the troops, Fort Campbell's DFAC is culinary to the corps

Oasis @ Ft. Campbell. Where do I sign up?!! Really it sounds like great grub for the palate, the wallet and the waistline. No Wonder Those Guys & Gals of Special Ops Look So Hot! ! ! But really, I didn't know civilians could dine with those Great Americans. Next class I have at APSU college I'll try to behave myself by politely getting a pass thru the Ft. Campbell gate and by respectfully eating that healthy food with our troops. Thank You Soldiers! (& TY to the chef) Ann in Tennessee

Re: “Soy Teriyaki Bistro offers a little Japanese, a lot of Korean and plenty of delight

We love this place! It's only a couple miles from our house--a Godsend in franchise-heavy Williamson County. We've eaten here once a week for 4 weeks now. The tacos are a major craving of mine--spicy enough for me, but not so hot my that my two-year-old won't take a bite.

We brought friends last night, and our buddy commented that the owner is so nice, you want to give him all of your dining business.

I've never been disappointed. I've worked my way through almost the entire menu. It's become our Saturday tradition. Chris, Hanna and Johnny treat everyone like family. :) The Spicy Pork Bulgogi is not to be missed.

This place is truly amazing! You must go in and meet the owners - then try all three variations of tacos!

Re: “In its 25th year, F. Scott's launches a spring menu that's cause for celebration

When you reach the end of a significant meal and still have the wherewithal to consider dessert, it's more to the credit of the chef than to your digestive stamina, because a lot of thought goes into devising portions that satisfy an appetite without overwhelming a body. Our meals were built with such balance and restraint that we were satisfied but still curious about what treasures might lie on the dessert roster.

Re: “In its 25th year, F. Scott's launches a spring menu that's cause for celebration

F. Scott's has always been one of the most consistently, good restaurants in Nashville. Not incredible, but given the competition - better than most. That said, I hope Deb's new place offers something along the line of Zola's greatest efforts. If not, Chicago really isn't that far away...

Re: “In its 25th year, F. Scott's launches a spring menu that's cause for celebration

While I appreciate the review it has to be taken in the light of what F. Scott's has become, blue hair central. It has become "Sperry's East" or "Sperry's Green Hills" at best. I've eaten at F. Scott's many times and it's predictable, average and least I say, way over priced for what it delivers.

Re: “Aubrey Bean's Vinegarroon brings smoke and sting to Church Street

Live across the street, been here 3 times, the food really isn't very good. The wings are a failure, deep fried with breading, then put on a char-grill, cool idea...doesn't work. Unless things have changed alot in the past couple months, since I gave up on the place, find some other 'cue in nashville.

Re: “Aubrey Bean's Vinegarroon brings smoke and sting to Church Street

Im sorry but this place was fairly mediocre. Although, I will say it probably had the best chicken I've had at a BBQ joint. The Ribs were very tough and dry, and the brisket was mehh. And i know its from Texas, but you gotta have some sort of pulled pork option.

However, they advertise amazing happy hour and lunch specials ($2 tacos) so I guess I will return and give it a fair shot. But from my first experience, it was very mehhh

Re: “Aubrey Bean's Vinegarroon brings smoke and sting to Church Street

Don't forget the Judge spent some time working out of the club restaurant at Greer Stadium between 12th Ave and Brentwood. Or it might have been between the Fairgrounds and 12th. He's quite picaresque. I'll never forget eating there on a hot day with 3-4 portable air conditioners and their associated ductwork taking up 1/2 the dining room. Damn, that was a steamy meal.

Re: “At Pomodoro East, Willy Thomas and Joe Shaw team up for Italian-inspired farm-to-table fare

"pizza and pasta. Of course, those hallmarks of Italian cuisine appear at the house of Thomas and Shaw.."

That "of course' is of local origin. Italian restaurants this good virtually never--never--serve pizzas and may not have pasta as any main course, in places where there are, well--more Italians and people familiar with the food. On the other hand, it's really smart of these folks to underwrite their future with pizza and the bar, given local expectations.
