Let's go!
My husband and I just moved to the area and decided to try Monell's for Thanksgiving. It is, after all, one of our favorite restarunts. We drove and hour into Nashville (from Lebanon) and were so excited about the feast we were about to devour... until we put our name on the waiting list. Since it is first come, first served, the wait was 3 HOURS!!!!! We pondered wether it was worth waiting for, we knew it was going to be AMAZING, but after an hour of starving, we decided to head back to Lebanon and hit up the Cracker Barrel. Now, it was no Monell's, but it hit the spot. I understand why Monell's doesn't take reservations, wasted tables when people don't show up, and they obviously had no lack of people, but I was shocked so many of them were willing to wait 3 hours. I guess if you live close by, drive over and put your name on the list, then head back home and snack till it's your time to eat!
Managed to luck into a seat the week they opened, and was thoroughly impressed. The greens they serve with the pork chop are worth a plate by themselves.
And Waffle House. But they don't have anything Thanksgiving-themed.
On my short list but, like you, I've had no luck getting a reservation yet. I'm looking forward to the opportunity though.
DeSano uses high grade ingredients, and they know what they're doing. Folks may take issue with the lighting, or the pricing, or whatever - but I doubt many folks will take issue with the food, which is awesome. DeSano is an immediate top level player in what's become a very competitive pizza market in Nashville. Welcome to town. Yum.
Will NEVER go back. We politely asked for 2 toppings and were given attitude by the manager. I was told "it's not gonna happen" bc apparently you are only only allowed to have 1 topping. Huh?? So I told her that eating at your restaurant is not gonna happen. Such bad business to say that to your customers. Smh. Go to Five Points Pizza and Savarino's!!!
This place is great; I was in there on the second day after it opened and have been back several times since without any tastebud-related regrets.
There are just two issues:
1) The BYOB thing is a drag. I understand them not wanting to be a beer joint, but the Peroni beer (the only brand offered), while an authentic Italian brew, is just too sharp for a starch-and-cheese menu. Yazoo is right down the street; get a few cases of Dos Perros up there once a week.
2) The fluorescent lights are unbearable. It's like a fucking examination room in there. Leave the bright lights over the ovens but dim the table areas.
Your kids need a "pizza a piece?". My god they must be enormous. I've been here twice and I'd say one pizza feeds about 3 adults. One pizza = 8 large slices.
I think Rick Steves has better things to do - even in mom jeans:

Maybe Bourdain should join Steves on his tour?
The place is absolutely breathtaking!!! Food was excellent. Really cool spot...will be back soon.
Let's just hope the beer doesn't taste like sulphur water.
How much of that water project charity will be accompanied by proselytizing? Non-Christian coffee drinkers may want to know.
Oh my goodness. My husband and I have been twice and this is one of only 2 brunch spots we will go to in the Nashville area. The pancakes are amazing - we had the pumpkin pancakes and I'm tell you guys, really delicious. We also have eggs benedict..delicious. The drinks were great too - lots of variety. The service is wonderful, atmosphere warm and the owners are personable - come out to greet you. There is a wait after the church crowd lets out so if you can show up early. BUT its really worth waiting for in my opinion.
Now if they just introduce some artisan breakfast sandwiches and other made-on-premises food items they might see that profit margin spike! Coffee alone with those few pre-packaged food choices won't cut it.
The Hot Wing Festival admission is $10 at the gate and $7.50 at Mapco before the event
Go Deb! Cannot wait to try it again!
Dear Starbucks,
I used to be a loyal customer. Now that the well is here, you won't be seeing much of me. Is it the awesome barnwood interior, the noble mission, or the good coffee? Starbucks always tried to tell me they cared about this or that noble cause, but it always came off like phony corporate marketing. Maybe things went down hill for us when you kept trying to sell me cd's and knick knacks I never wanted. The relaxed vibe at the well is so noncorporate, not anti-corporate, just just relaxed and not giving a damn. Anyways, I highly recommend the well, it is awesome. Starbucks, you could learn a few things from this plucky and socially conscious start up.
