Re: “Meet Caldwell Hancock

This hit piece boarders on being criminal. For it to still be out on the internet after almost 4 years is unconscionable. I've known Caldwell Hancock for over 25 years and he may be the best lawyer I have ever worked with.

What is even more interesting is that Pulle parted company with the Scene (dare I say “fired”?) for the second time about a month after publishing this article. Who is keeping this going? No wonder they have to give this rag away.

Re: “Dr. Asa Andrew, health care guru, TV and radio personality, runs afoul of the Tennessee Department of Health

I was told by a friend yrs ago about his diet for inflamation ...and she gave me his book. I even listened to his radio show prior to that and had spoken with him. He gave me only great advise and the inflamatory diet..WORKED!!! I worked in a hsp for 24 yrs and know how the prescription/insurance kick backs work...sooo....don't kick someone just because the board of medical cartel doesn't recognize someone that is trying to help each of us in a preventative way....before our health gets to a point of no return. So...back off!

Re: “The Bar That Time Forgot

As I remember the original Dusty Road Tavern, it was the last hole in the wall in a row of brick buildings across the Shelby Ave. bridge. east of the Cumberland River. Bobby Green was the concierge and would be notorious for kicking the feet of anybody out of the isles between tables. It happened to me several times. I was a student at Vanderbilt and got to play bass with just about every well-known picker who played the Opry from The Foggy Mountain Boys, Sunny Mountain Boys, to Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys and many others from 1968 to about late 1972. It was a haven for bluegrass unlike any other and I'll cherish my memories of playing and enjoying the musical friendships I started there forever.

Re: “Mother Knows Best?

@KCB....it just really bugs me that you keep using the word "morons" when YOU are clearly the moron in all this. You OBVIOUSLY are speaking without objectively looking at the facts. Regardless of Jim's faults- his "lifestyle"....that doesn't prove Kelley's innocence. As a person who is totally 100% objective in all this, looking at the FACTS as presented in the trial, Kelley is certainly guilty...she either did it alone or with help. But she did it. KCB...YOU are the moron!!!

Re: “Mother Knows Best?

I've noticed that on every online article about the Jim Cannon murder, "LittleBirdy" is making sure to let everyone know that Jim had been having an affair. Okay, the guy wasn't perfect. No one is. But JIM is the murder victim here, not Kelley....so regarding his MURDER, Kelley IS the one with the documented history of chronic mental health problems, drug abuse and aggressive behaviors. She was also most likely losing the battle for her kids, she was very resentful towards Jim, and those with mental health issues ALWAYS blame someone else, NEVER themselves. Plus, this article clearly SHOWS that Kelley had INSIDE knowledge about the details of Jim's death LONG BEFORE the police made any of those details known.

So, let's use LOGIC and NOT EMOTIONS. Kelley had developed mental health problems, drug abuse problems and regardless of WHO'S to blame, SHE is the one with INSIDE knowledge of his murder BEFORE it should have been known, SHE is the one who's not thinking and acting and functioning "normally", and of course, she's going to LIE to cover for herself. And of course, her mother can't help but try to defend the daughter she loves. Regarding her being too small to have committed the crime....not necessarily. Even small people can be surprisingly strong when their adrenalin is pumping. Plus, Kelley had the element of surprise, & Jim was asleep and had had some wine to drink (autopsy reports). With Kelley's adrenalin pumping, Jim in a deep sleep, she could have easily had the advantage in this.

Anyway, @KCB -- you've kept using the word MORON when you didn't YET have all the facts. Frankly, it takes a MORON to pick sides based on personal bias and emotions vs. FACTS. Sometimes the people we love and trust are capable of murder. Look at the FACTS, and not your heart.

Re: “Financial Aid Woes, Poor Student Service Dog Tennessee State University

Unfortunately, this article accurately portrays the CURRENT condition and attitude of the financial aid department. Many students are dependent on the financial aid and bursar departments to attend college. Often when there's an error, you're kicked out of your courses, or not allowed to register for the following semester. Errors happen all the time, but their unwillingness to do anything is irresponsible. An education is the most expensive purchase I've ever brought. I couldn't imagine such gross inaccuracies in the accounting of funds when purchasing a car, home, or even a cell phone. And, then add their poor service and unwillingness to fix their mistakes. We should be treated better. I'm taken my business elsewhere.

Re: “While Tennessee lawmakers line up on either side of Big Coal in legislative fights over mountaintop removal, the earth-ravaging practice continues unabated

Coal Terminals and additional infrastructure are required in the coal supply chain. Coal newsletters and coal prices show developing economies are more likely to increase their investment into & their use of thermal coal & metallurgical coal in coming years because of its affordability and to meet increasing demands for electricity and steel. www.coalportal.com

Re: “If you think it's hard to find a job these days, try being a felon

Actually in some states all the LITTLE things that can land you in front of a judge are absolutely ridiculous. Parking tickets; letting your car license plate tags expire because it doesn't pass smog and you can't afford to either get that fixed, get another car or move to another state that doesn't have smog requirements; "trespassing" living in a building after the neighbors have had the police condemn it just to get you out because you can't find another place to live in your price range in the amount of time you were given to get out....all of this in NEW YORK and other New England states, but also some of the states out West. I mean, sure, be perfect, keep a high enough paying job to live a reasonably comfortable life and never so much as jaywalk or cross a street against a light, and sure, you'll spend your entire life never having to set foot in front of a judge.

Re: “The coming legal clash between The Contributor, the ACLU and Brentwood tests the limits of free speech in Middle Tennessee

John-Your math appears to be right with the exception of one thing-you have to factor in the tips for the vendors, which could be substantial. A vendor may average $2.00 a sale-one dollar for the paper, another dollar in tip money. That would make the total monthly income for all vendors about $175,000 ($200,000-$25000), before taxes.

Re: “A Killing, A Search, A Suspect?

I went to Woodbine Elementary school and was in the third grade when Kathy Jones was killed. I believe she was in the Fifth Grade. Her death made me very fearful growing up.
I've never forgotten her and the pain the family must have felt all those years with no justice.
Woodbine then and now is a very poor area. To this day the area around the KrispymKreme Doughnut location reminds me of Kathy. I pray for Justice for this little girl and am thankful for all the detective hard work in this case. Now a Grand Parent, I was extremely vigilante of my Girls safety when they were growing up. These sexual predators need the death penalty imposed upon the, for such crime. There is no rehabilitating someone like this. Kathy you have not been forgotten and our Love is with you always. I pray for Justice for her.

PS: three lawyer panel acquits Mr. Hancock of all allegations of overbilling and of making unjustified statements criticizing lawyers James Kelley and allegedly "respected" bankruptcy lawyer Bob Mendes dgh ouemonstrating that his unintentionally published comment about Mendes was entirely ethically appropriate.

The Scene apologizes to Mr. Hancock and all readers offended by the piece; I offer my own personal apology as well and accept responsibility for the error.” The Editor

Re: “Number One With a Bullet

Phil Gernhard gave me "one" of my first Breaks. We all have "Demons" & in the "End" I guess, Life lost it's "Flair" for Phil..He either loved you or just moved on.. In the early 80's, Phil spent 3 years in and out of Va Beach Producing the Country/Rock band"Snuff" for Electra/ Curb.He also produced "Arrogance" during that time for Warner/Curb for my Management Company.. now www.bonusmusic.com ..

Don Dixon, from Arrogance, became a Great Producer, and help Produce the First two REM Albums .Phil Gernhard and I promoted Real Life's "Send me an Angel" Big, Big Hit TWICE!!! I had a Chance to move on in 1986 with" Bruce Hornsby & the Range" & Jeff McClusky & Associates, an up coming Promotion Firm based in Chicago... When I told Phil, he never spoke to me again, I guess because he felt I betrayed him...I guess, it was the best for me, but to this day, I'll always remember the Days in Va Beacn..Check out www.youtube.com/theronnieh and Look in the Snuff Playlist for the Pic's...I hope that God "Sent Phil an Angel"
I'm sorry I never got to Talk to Phil after I became successful, but I helped Break many of Curb Records with JMA, knowing Phil felt my "promotional skills".... I think he always wish me well..God Bless your Soul, my old friend!! Ron Herbert March 14 2012

Re: “The coming legal clash between The Contributor, the ACLU and Brentwood tests the limits of free speech in Middle Tennessee

There is something people need to know. James Redden, the poster boy for The Contributor, is not all he appears to be. People see him as a great vendor and someone with a great personality. That is a facade. I know for a fact he has taken money from vendors and has made no effort to return the funds. The reason he does this, more likely then not, is to support a drug and/or alcohol problem. He would undoubtedly fail any random drug test The Contributor would give him. Anyone that comes into contact him should tell him he needs to pay the people that helped him out back before he takes any more money for selling his papers.

Re: “A City Swept Clean

What if they had taken all the money they spent on Urban Renewal and instead gave it to people to build new homes or fix theirs up and make them better? That would've worked much better.

Re: “Jesus RX

The fact that Mercy Ministries did not see fit to tell us, her parents, that my daughter tried to commit suicide should tell you all that you need to know about what kind of operation this is... a cult, and a destructive one at that.

I wonder if the girl who tried to kill herself was my daughter. We didn't find out about it until after the ER bill arrived...classy!
