Roughly what % of the old district that was not overwhelming Democratic is still in the new district? That would give us an idea of how many non-Democratic pro-Henry voters might be available for the Republicans to snag. I suspect the percentage is much smaller than your article suggests.

Rather than these Henry voters waking up and realizing they liked Henry more than Democrats, it seems much likelier to me that the district's love of Henry is what allowed him to continue in the Senate despite his conservatism (and some really risible behavior). I think you can take from Yarbro's almost-coup, and all of our other local officials, that the district can easily support someone bluer than Henry. I was happy to support Yarbro then and now.
I'm no analyst but the idea that a Republican is going to triumph over one of two extremely popular local liberals is just a laugh.

Correct, it was 2010(http://www.nashvillescene.com/pitw/archives/2010/05/21/democratic-party-names-top-targets-in-state-house-races). And thankfully Jeff Woods understood spin when he heard it, unlike the this story's author.

Are Scene reporters barred from researching their topics before writing? Did you do even a rudimentary analysis of the district, like, say, looking at the number of Democratic primary voters vs. Republican primary voters(all public record and would take maybe 5 minutes with a high school level understanding of excel). This is almost certainly one of, if not the most Democratic Senate seats that isnt majority minority. Just because the Republicans say they have shot isn't reason to believe it and write a story suggesting it, what are they supposed to say,"We drew this district as safely Democratic so we could pick up SD20"? Did you believe Chip Forrester when he said the Democrats would take back the House in 2012?
The Scene is good at reporting political gossip and commenting on bat shit crazy legislation but y'all consistently fail at having even a basic understanding of electoral politics.

Meanwhile the ever-increasing fees of those downtown lots--official, and "cash only as taken by attendants tonight" varieties--are probably doing more to drive business and interaction OUT of downtown than anything..Low-cost interior public parking is needed and droves fast, to invite use and control what Central, etc. charge in the hostage lots. (Particularly if you want to park just before six for the evening.)

Surface parking lots do destroy the fabric of a city. Anyone who thinks a surface lot serves some type of purpose is simply ignorant, or lacks understanding of what the built form is all about. It is about connectivity, pedestrian space, human scaled architecture, and the personal relationship between the natural human form and the manmade built form.
Surface lots do nothing but exacerbate the urban blight that all major cities have. The lot would be better used as a park if no built form is suitable.

Your storytelling wakes up miriad genetc memories and mind pictures of my own Southern Hill Woman, my Granny Gray who passed in '48 and shared much with Tent Boy's Hill granny. I remember this case vividly. For years, I assumed from the snippets on TV that she had runaway. Once I read more, I realized how I'd been most likely very wrong in that assumption.
I hope someone, somewhere, is able to connect the dots and get this family some closure.

At what point in time does modern art cease to be modern? Caveman critics must have grunted, "Whoa, dude, this is edgy!" at some of the wall creations of the era, but now these same renderings are considered quaint. There must be a time constraint - has to be. Someday the MCC will be considered 21st century baroque.
