"Let's give him a third term, because he's doing so well!"
It's Hillary's turn to rub salt in the open sore that is the modern GOP.
>>little bobbsy<<
Baby talk must be required when you're attempting to grope young boys, eh?
I'm sorry, but as long as a millionaire Republican congressman "farmer" can collect millions in farm subsidies, I don't want to hear jack about poor people paying taxes or using meager resources to assist with food.
"All revenues of the state or federal government belong in theory to the voting age public in total, the taxpayer, not so much. "
Who is and isn't getting subsizied is a matter of economic fact - not political theories of who gets how much say in the spending of tax revenues collected.
And the details of of which individuals are paying the bulk of those taxes and which one's are not is absolutely relevant to the determination of that economic fact.
"Actually ALL coins and bills belong to the federal government"
Fiat currency is merely a medium of exchange for wealth. That wealth belonged to the individauls who possesed that currency. It in no way represents a "gift" from the government.
"Many of those who receive refunds in excess of their tax payments are simply receiving rebates on their sales and usage taxes they have paid, and property taxes of landlords they have subsidized. "
Hardly, federal income taxes relate to federal government services, state sales taxes related to state government services and property taxes relate to local government services . None of them have anything to do with each other.
No Mark, history has shown that with the possible exception of Faux News and other extremist media outlets the MSM will perform their job of public information admirably. What it means is that the wealthy, whom you seem to feel need the constant vigilance of your never-ending defense, can no longer purchase elections so damn obviously. It will in theory render the available wealth of the Koch brothers impotent. Your screeching about failed delivery of political messages rings quite hollow IMHO!
"There is no such thing as "federal money" or "state money"
Actually ALL coins and bills belong to the federal government, but that is nit picking. It pains me to say so, but in a way Gilbert is right. All revenues of the state or federal government belong in theory to the voting age public in total, the taxpayer, not so much. Once funds have been surrendered to the government, they are charged with utilizing them as determined by the representatives of the citizenry, be they congressional or administration.
26 major corporations paid 0 income taxes, hence we can consider that they benefit off the tax paying public. Large agricultural corporations receive the lion's share of agriculture subsidies, the % of family farms is miniscule in comparison. Yet we fail to witness the gnashing of teeth that characterizes the anti tax libertarian-utopians who constantly bemoan and blame the poor and needy.
Many of those who receive refunds in excess of their tax payments are simply receiving rebates on their sales and usage taxes they have paid, and property taxes of landlords they have subsidized. You may not like it, but it is as legal as those tax deductions you claim on your return.
THAT is not socialism! Socialism is when the "state" controls the means of production and commerce. With few and unusual situations, and with the exception of regulations designed for the protection of the public and commerce itself, this does not exist in this economy. Fanatical capitalists may claim everything that hinders the operation of unfettered marketplaces is socialist, but IMHO if it is designed for public and business protection, it is not!
@Idiots: Links to the Daily Caller are not about opinions, the links go to news sources that are normally ignored by the liberal media. Your comments indicate you prefer the ostrich approach which is why you're always surprised by liberal misdeeds, or even refuse to acknowledge a liberal is capable of a misdeed. CA, liberal opinions do not trump fact and liberal opinion is what you always offer. Either that or twisted charts full of disinformation like this blog.
Back to the link: Black America is finally waking up to the fact that liberal policies are more harmful than good for them. As an example, ten percent of Mexico is living within our borders and taking low tech jobs from whom? But liberals don't care and are even encouraging more immigration.
Kosh,
The English system works nicely because they have a Parliamentary system. There people vote for their Members of Parliament based on their preference for Prime Minister. Party discipline is much stricter in that sort of government. Finally, we have a First Amendment, something that in his lust to impose his vision, Jim seems to be willing to toss in the trash.
Jim,
"That being said, limiting funds WILL streamline rhetoric, separate from the useless and ridiculous, and eliminate the BUYING of elections such as has happened in the past."
To be clear:
"Streamline" is your way of saying that campaigns will have less ability to contact voters with their message.
"Separate from the useless and ridiculous" is not clearly defined so that what you really mean is that there will be less chance for candidates to make their own case.
"Eliminate the BUYING of elections such as has happened in the past" as when Senator Obama, who preached his love of campaign finance, opted out of the campaign finance rules and raised far more money than any two candidates had ever raised?
What always annoys me about your argument and those like it is that you never want toplace the responsibility for reforming elections where it belongs, with voters. You don't like where someone gets his or her money, vote against them. We could have 24 hour disclosure tomorrow if we wished. The internet provides access to a world of information. Cable news provides various sides of the news.
But you don't want an informed electorate. You want a neutered political system that favors the sort of big government incumbents that hate challenges from outside the system. Not for nothing has more and more campaign finance reform tracked with higher and higher percentages of incumbents being re-elected.
"Surely the Teeps must wonder sometime: What would have made anyone vote to impose a federal income tax on the country? What part of "No new taxes!" did folks not understand? The liberal states must have plotted to make it happen, right?"
What made it happen were the alcohol prohibitionists who teamed up with the so-called "progressives" to pass the income tax amendment.
The federal government got most of it's revenue from taxes on booze and the prohibitionists knew that they had to find a way to replace that revenue with something else or they would never get their prohibition amendment passed. So they teamed up with the "progressives" who, of course, were all about redistributing wealth and got the income tax passed.
There is no such thing as "federal money" or "state money".
It is all the money of the specific individual taxpayers who paid it to the federal government and the state governments.
The only Tennessee citizens being subsidized are the specific individuals whose absolute dollars of tax payments to both levels of government are less than the absolute dollar value of explicit, direct government services they are receiving from both levels of government calculated on a user fee basis.
Anyone paying more than that amount is subsidizing somebody else. Since the top 50% of income earners pay about 97% of federal income taxes collected and likely a significant percentage of state taxes collected as well, they aren't the one's getting any benefit from the alleged state "socialism".
Elbert Guillory was a Republican until he ran for office in a heavily Democratic district. He's just switching back to his original affiliation, a fact that's not mentioned in the Daily Caller article.
Wow, someone of the wrong sex has an awful lot of PMS! Pompous Male Syndrome, perhaps? I am also a descendant of Timothe. He is my 4th great grandfather, ( still a GREAT grandfather of some nature).. all male descendants down until the birth of my grandmother, Myrtle Bunnie Demonbreun. I have done quite a bit of research over the last few years, and I only knew of one other mistress besides my 4th great grandmother, Elizabeth. I live in Ashland City, as do so many descendants of Timothe, and there is no bad blood between us with Doziers, which some of us are twice related with, or Durards, or anyone else related in some way. Great article, thank you for sharing**
He links to the Daily Caller because he's trying to help drive up their traffic. I'm not clicking that link or visiting the Daily Caller because I've been to that website on several occasions and EVERY time did some research and found out that they were either taking something waaaaaay out of context or just making things up. I've seen enough of that, and other like-minded websites. You'd best be served to ignore his comments backed up by a link to that garbage.
xray: You linked to the Daily Caller as a source? Bwahahahahaha!
xray: Poverty rates are significantly higher in rural areas. There are more poor people in cities because a greater number of all people in the US live in cities.
http://www.ers.usda.gov/topics/rural-econo…
And the article is about "Federal Aid as a Percentage of State General Revenue," not "federal taxes in and out." You, however, claimed that a significant number of people don't pay taxes, a claim that is demonstrably false.
Zoombahb, the adults are talking. Did you have something to say about the topic at hand?
@wvfii: The next time you choose to comment wait until you're sober. Harry Reid said Romney paid no taxes. It was erroneous information but he must have trusted the source of that information and the place the source (who screwed up) would have to be is the IRS. About Obamaphones: It was on the news last night that the cost had reached $2 billion.
@madison: The article was about federal taxes out and in, not all the local stuff. The thing is, there are too many varying factors for the charts to mean much but it cannot be denied that a large percentage of our population are big city dwellers who are always on and will always be on the dole. If it displeases you that I noticed that, well.....(Psst, nationwide we have ten percent of Mexico up here cashing in.)
Here's a link to a black politician who woke up and looked around -http://dailycaller.com/2013/06/19/elbert-g…
I wonder if the News-Sentinel will dare have a photo of Jimmy Haslam in cuffs doing the perp walk after that indictment is handed down. I just can't wait, what with the giddy anticipation of that happy scene.
Why, this crooked scam seems almost as bad as Pilot gouging us during and after that hurricane.
Re: “Tennessee's Stiff-Arm Is an Outstretched Hand”
just picking nits here, but RE: "Socialism is when the "state" controls the means of production and commerce" -- that's not always true.
