South Street, Mad Donna's, and Southern are my go-tos.
Best selection of imported treats: Baraka Bakery.
Unless you hate Mom, I'd recommend sticking to either places that take reservations (Margot) or bars (Melrose).
burrito - Las Americas
Mazatlan on Briley has a Sunday lunch buffet - not your typical brunch, but a fantastic option. This mama is going to be building her own nachos.
Dined at 12 South Bistro which is in the former At the Table location. There is not a whisper of its former existence! Totally redone and lovely. It is modern, sleek and elegant but warm. The food was excellent as well. Mostly focused on Italian fare but they have burgers for lunch. Did not learn much about the owner/chef but hope to hear more from one of you in the know about such things. They've been open 12 days and that may explain the small wine list which may expand. All in all, a very nice place and I will definitely return.
Hi Lesley - we (Perl) are actually doing open brunch as well. For those who have made reservations for our special meal, they will receive it. For walk-ins, it will be our regular brunch. Also, ours is Saturday, not Sunday. If anyone wants to make reservations or is interested in the special menu, give us a call.
i have dined there 3 times, twice for lunch and once for dinner. The menu is expansive and a little hard to get a your hands around. I have generally liked everything I ate with a few exceptions (not bad, just not what my pallet tends to appreciate) I would agree that they are very liberal with the salt, but some of that is spice, capers, olives etc. I would say keep it simple and you will be pleased. The half orders of pasta are very generous and really a normal portion for a non american, I love the veal meatballs.
As a mezzo, I've always been keen on baritones myself. Shame that I have other plans that night.
I've had plenty of good noodles, no doubt. But a bowl of really great pasta is hard to find in a fast casual restaurant and for less than $10 a bowl. I think the Noodles & Company pasta (particularly the GF pasta) is good quality for the price. And the variety is good, too.
And all it requires to like their bland, textureless noodles--any variety--is never having experienced any good ones.
What a great idea/awesome piece of PR!
Signed up! The menu is incredible, and I'm exited to see Casa Azafran.
yes mr. pink. or many seem to be hard on the outside and not fully cooked on the inside. other wings seem to be all sauce.
have you had the burger or fries. that looked really good!
This mom has purchased her tickets and will be one of the first people there stuffing myself silly!
Ghot Wingz has fine wings. I've had the parmesan wings — salty but very good. I could use some decent wings after a close encounter with my kids' frozen supermarket "wyngz" (fine print reads: no wing meat).
Link fixed.
this is not about a milkshake but......this is the open thread so
i went to Ghot Wingz off gallatin road. ive heard a lot of things about this place - all good. well i can add to that. they have a pretty big menu. you go in and you can order your wings the way you want them. you can have naked or breaded and there are many sauces. they also have whiting and catfish and other treats. prices are very fair. i felt that i was served a huge amount of food for what i paid and it was piping hot and exactly as i ordered it.
i had the honey bourbon wings and a piece of catfish. omg i was so impressed. they cook everything to order. they seem to ladle the sauce onto the wings after they cook them which actually really tastes great after it sits for a minute. i really dont know that ive had wings presented this way but it really works well. instead if the wings coming out already murdered in the breading and sauce....the sauce sits atop the wings and an addition. the sauce was perfect and the wings tender and juicy. the huge piece of catfish perfectly fried. flakey and fresh. the plate presented with a roll and celery to go. they open the to go box for you to check your food which i always like and feel is a very polite thing to do.
there are tables there and even pool tables and game machines if you want to hang out.
while i was waiting i saw some really tempting fries and a huge juicy burger go by me. it seems that its a hang out for the college there and there is also a nice community feel to the place. i also noticed that they have orange soda or orange cold drinks - if you will. orange drink goes very well with wings or catfish!
they have wings on special on wednesday and ill be back for sure!
the service was fast and friendly. i really liked the place. it seemed to be "owning itself' if you know what i mean. i hope they continue to focus on what they are doing well .
This sounds awesome! And did you see the Cinnamon & Coconut Dusted Fried Plantains too? We will be there!

I'm literally sitting a puddle of my own saliva after reading this review. Can't get down there fast enough to try it out.
