Re: “"She terrified people"

My dad is one of Georgia Tann's stolen children. He was adopted as a newborn, but was very sick with dysentery and jaundice, probably from the appalling conditions at that house of horror. He was adopted by a wealthy and loving family in Memphis, thankfully for him. But he still wishes he know who he really is and the circumstances of his adoption. We may never truly know as she falsified the actual birth certificate.

Re: “"She terrified people"

Gay people aren't pedophiles. Pedophiles are pedophiles. Gay people are attracted to consenting adults of the same sex. Pedophiles are attracted to children. BIG difference. If you want to lump everyone together as if all events are mutually inclusive then by your same reasoning HETEROSEXUALS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO REPRODUCE BECAUSE HITLER WAS STRAIGHT SO ALL STRAIGHT PEOPLE BRING ABOUT GENOCIDE. Your reasoning is majorly flawed.

Re: “A biography (at last) of Huey 'Piano' Smith, the man who diagnosed the 'Rockin' Pneumonia'

The Ace record is actually called "Huey 'Piano' Smith's Rock 'n' Roll Revival."

I find it amazing that there seems to be no good domestic comp of Huey's work. I used to have the original Ace version of "Having a Party with Huey 'Piano' Smith"--it was part of a group of CDs that a burglar stole from my house years ago. I've never seen a copy of that record since. The comp I now have is a good one--the 1997 West Side CD "Having a Good Time with Huey 'Piano' Smith & His Clowns, The Very Best of, Vol. 1." 24 tracks. In his bio of James Brown, RJ Smith talks about the Clowns' drummer, "Hungry" Williams, as a precursor to the funk drummers who later worked with Brown. There is also a good chapter on Smith's Ace record in Greil Marcus' "Stranded" anthology of writings about desert island discs. Great piece, Ron--I gotta read the book.

This great man was part of a two part show in Nashville that was my first concert experience. The other act that night was Bo Diddley. At the time, I was blown away by 'Dr Feelgood and the Interns' and had no idea just how important he was. Just a great performer. He still resonates in my mind...
