Re: “Nashville Recap: 'Road Happy'

You sure do spend a lot of time writing about a show that is so terribly un-hip by Scene standards. It's like the unsecure bully. The reason they are a bully in the first place because they don't like what they see in the mirror. Same with your quips on the Tennessean. Worry about turning out a good product before you go casting stones. I haven't enjoyed reading your garbage paper in several years.

Re: “Nashville Recap: 'Road Happy'

Good to see the A game back.. I'm sure it's hard to write a recap on a show that is now, not as good as that Nashville Housewives tried to be.

Re: “Nashville Recap: 'Road Happy'

"Juliette smiles wanly", so perfect and would have been appropriate at least once in each episode.

"Scarlett, an old lady still in denial about Rock Hudson", another gem to add to the list.

Minor FYI - Character "Tammy" is actually character "Pam", though nobody seems to have called her by name since her first episode.

Re: “Flipping Channels: Constantine, Grimm, and a Cosby Bio That Pulls Its Punches

A 'definitive and exacting' examination of any influential American cultural/economic/political/social American celebrity may possibly occur only when the same is deceased and his/her survivors and/or pre-death appointed estate overseer(s) have been thoroughly euthanized against filing any legal action to prevent such a in-depth-till-it-is-painful appraisal.

See the total silence on the REAL J.D. Salinger since his death about five years ago as a prime example of the second.

Sounds like Cosby is doing early prep for a similar treatment once he shakes off this mortal coil one day. Still a fascinating and thoughtful read, though.

Re: “Last Days in Vietnam Director Rory Kennedy Q&A Via Skype Tonight at Belcourt

I guess now that John Seigenthaler's gone Rory Kennedy won't have any reason to visit Nashville.

Rory is a tremendously-talented filmmaker. I have seen previews of Last Days in Vietnam (which I hope to see in its entirety) and couldn't have been more pleased with the Ethel documentary.

Re: “Nashville Recap: ‘That’s Me Without You’

I've been watching this show from the beginning, and reading recaps on other sites. This is the first time I've found my way to this blog, and I actually am weirdly on the fence in terms of cosigning both the many comments saying how hilarious Ms. Spurgeon's snarky quips often are, but also the complaint about getting overly nasty.

Specifically, I thought the hatred for the road-tripping trio of Gunnar, Scarlett, and Avery went too far. I like all three characters, but I don't begrudge anyone feeling differently. However, this is just purely hateful: "Scarlett pulls over and now her car is dead, but I wish they were the ones who were dead." And it's not even cleverly witty, like so much else in the recap.

Also, just BTW: it wasn't Scarlett saying she thought she'd be with a better man (right to Avery's face?!? no way) but Avery saying it.
