Re: “Arts, Music & Culture Writers' Choice

I completely disagree with Jordan Caress statement, "no small feat in a town that still suffers from a lack of GLBTQ community organization" for BEST QUEER DANCE PARTY: QDP AT THE 5 SPOT.

If Jordan actually did any research, she would find out there are A LOT of GLBT community organizations here! Here's a link to prove it: http://www.outandaboutnewspaper.com/page/9. Better leave the GLBT coverage to Out & About Newspaper!

Re: “Arts, Music & Culture Writers' Choice

While it's encouraging to see the Bombino gig named best of the year, as I fully imagine it was, it's less an indication of 'how awesome Nashville has become' than 'how Nashville continues to disrespect the people who go to the trouble to try to make it awesome despite itself.' Nashville is a music industry town through and through, the lack of institutional support for adventurous music is and has been a glaring fact of life as long as I can remember. What you should be asking yourself is "Why was the best show of the year at a VFW?" The answer is that it was set up single-handedly by my dear friend and former bandmate, Chris Davis, who has been amazingly actively bringing avant-garde and otherwise exciting music to Nashville for over fifteen years. Nashville really needs to stop patting itself on the back long enough to give at least a few pats to the people who actually deserve it. Bravo, Chris.

Re: “Best Art Community Energizer

This e-mail is an correction of a 'critique' of a restaurant in Nashville in which my name was used. I have never been in Nashville; I don't know how my name got used in an article. Thank you! Marsha Harrell QUAYNI Family Literacy ESL Services

Re: “Best Art Community Energizer

I am really intrigued by the expression "Community Energizer", as I am interested in, not organizing or accomplishing anything political, but encouraging, helping to improve and promoting empowerment among young families in Detroit's communities. I already have a strategy and the phrase that you coined describes it to a "T"! Founder, QUAYNI Family Literacy ESL Services

Re: “Best Knitting Wit

Ann is funny enough to be a wit of any kind...but we knitters are proud to claim her as one of our own.

Re: “Best Knitting Wit

You're damn right! Ann Shayne is the best thing to hit the south since... well, I'm a northerner, so I can't say "scrapple." How bout "grits"? Love that blog! It never fails to make me laugh, as well as inspiring me to knit flat things with 90 degree corners.

Re: “Best Knitting Wit

Ann's sharp wit, pointed sense of humor, and well-crafted commentary (along with her co-conspirator, Kay) are well-appreciated by the knit-bloggers world!

Re: “Best Art Community Energizer

Andee is simply the Best! She energizes the BG International Festival's Gallery Walk better than anyone. Her T-shirt design for the festival was wonderful; my kids are still proudly wearing it even though we now live in Montgomery. Any city in the USA would be fortunate to call Andee a resident!

Re: “Best Art Community Energizer

I couldn't agree more! Your selection of Andee Rudloff as Best Art Community Energizer is right on the mark. Andee works tirelessly and enthusiastically across a broad spectrum to keep all artists informed of art activities and opportunities from Bowling Green, KY to Nashville, TN. She is generous and supportive of emerging and established artists as well as exhibition venues, community enrichment organizations and educational institutions forming a network of support and encouragement that fosters open dialogue, cultural engagement and creative extension and awareness at all levels. Hers is a natural giving that is driven by boundless enthusiasm for the complex joys of art and humanity. Congratulations Andee!

Re: “Best Art Community Energizer

Andee warms all who know her like a good glass of merlot as well. Her Kentucky time is spent in Bowling Green rather than Paducah but those of us who know her best know that her heart is in Nashville. (wink wink)

Re: “Best Actress

Ruth Cordell rocks. My daughter is in her speech class, and she's not only a great actress, she's a wonderful teacher.

Re: “Best Actress

We miss Ruth in L.A.! If you thought Tennessee Shakes was great, try Ruth's performance as a real fairy Titania in California Lutheran's Midsummer. She was very brave to wear a butt-floss bikini as part of the costume. She was also great as the Ghost of Christmas Past in Santa Susannah's Christmas Carol. L.A.'s loss is Nashville's (re)gain.

Re: “Best Actress

I found that Ms. Cordell is very talented. I attended this past summer on the Webb School Campus the 1st Tennessee Shakespeare Festival 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. It was wonderful. It is great to be expose my children to such talent. I hope we see more of her.
