Re: “Love-Hate Mail

No offense intended to victims and their families of violent sexual assaults, but the “statutory” laws in all states are insane and DA’s are prosecuting young kids/teens and young men with laws enacted to protect our kids and teens. I am not condoning pre-teen and teenage sexual promiscuity, but think back to when you were kids/teens and you played games such as truth-or-dare, doctor, seven-minutes-in-heaven, spin the bottle, or went 'parking'. What was once 'petting' sexual exploration between consenting underage teens is now grounds for “life time registration as a sex offender” and it is the boy who always ends up being charged. Statistically under today's sex offender laws, over 95% of all youth could be convicted and registered as sex offenders for life! How many of our young boys and teens will we allow to be incarcerated, subjected to barbaric and abusive treatment (see Plethysmographs, arousal reconditioning, cognitive restructuring of juveniles) and then forced to register as Sex Offenders for the rest of their lives before we bring an end to this insanity? The current and potential legislation regarding this entire subject is seriously lacking any real protection of our children from violent predatory sex offenders. In fact more and more underage children are the ones who are being prosecuted and convicted at an alarming rate under the very laws enacted to 'protect them.'

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

I disagree with gun owners. I do not see why my 2 and 3 year old have to sit beside someone who feels the need to "pack" a gun. What if my little one bumps into a gun carrier who accidentally forgot the safety after target pratice? As for restaraunt owners prohibiting guns..Good for them. That is their establishment. I wouldn't want my business shot up by over eager gun carriers. As for all the background check and such. They do not make you good gun holders. I have seen several that have permits and are drunks..What does that say about all those checks?

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

Bravo Tracy Moore! Thank you for bringing to the forefront one of the sad undercurrents in our society, especially here in Tennessee. You artice "Teacher's Pets", is one Tennessee legislators need to read and act on! Tennessee has become a joke to much of the nation when it comes to punishment for sexual predators of the female persuaion. As a parent, I want to see tougher laws against first time offenders of rape or sexual misconduct, be they male or female! As a parent, I believe this matter needs to be taken out of the hands of the courts, who consitently offer ridiculous sentences to female offenders....these women are predators, nothing less! Enact tougher legistlation that force the courts to treat them like their male counterparts!

You have really comitted murder in this article, did you ever think of Pastor Davis's family, his wife, his kids, that are just as innocent as the Liles family members. do you think you have brought justice, i fear you have not. Justice is complete. This is why God gives Grace, and Mercy to light.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

It amazes me to think that a convicted killer can now lead a flock of people that would follow him to the ends of the earth, and give there money to him freely. The article paints a vivid picture of a spoiled child who gets angry and kills someone for getting their prized boots dirty. No questions it was very clear what happened. He got mad and committed murder. He now lives in a gated commmunity, if anything the people of Cornerstone Church should be found guilty of harboring a murderer who obviously just keeps profitting from his crime. I would have thought that the people of Nashville were smarter then that.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

I know Calvin Hullett, or rather I use to work with Calvin years ago. We came on the Police Department the very same day and worked together for a while. I always thought Calvin was grooming to become Chief one day,as he went up the ranks. I liked him back then. But it has been years and years since that time and I do not know him (per se) any more. I think Calvin just took the wrong fork in the road when he went with the teamsters. And I think the teamsters used him. I do not know all the ends and outs about all this mess, but I do know that I wish Calvin well and when he gets out of prison he will rebuild his life with his family and find some peace and move on. For all those involved who were guilty of wrong doing still wearing a badge, well, I hope you will do some deep soul searching and change your ways, before it comes back around to bite you in the butt and you end up where Calvin is as well. I love the Police and Fire Departments and I appreciate all they do. I just hate politics and rangling for power.

I have never been prouder to be an atheist as when I read that letter. Terri hit the nail on the head, public education is a joke and only ment for the next generation of retail salespersons and restaurant staff.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

I and the other home-schooling parents do not let our children Dumpster-dive for a free, generally worthless and inferior public school education. Dumpster-dive? Wow. To think I agreed with the first half of your letter. Keep patting yourself on the back and looking down on those that, gasp, cannot stay home to school their children. Not everyone is as fortunate as you, but that certainly does not make them less a parent or their children less mature or intelligent.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

I am sick and fed up with these people cutting down a new convention center for Nashville. Do they not realize that with this new center will come more money for Davidson county and surrounding counties with all the businesses coming to have conventions here. Also do they not understand that the NCAA Final Four Basketball games are not played here that they could fine the city and county. As the old saying goes, to make money you have to spend money. They could always go up on your property taxes again to pay for this lost!

From your own article about possibly the best and worst named band ever... "Both Allin and AC mastermind Seth Putnam mine much of the same territory to fan the flames of controversy—misogyny, homophobia, racism—but in Putnam's case, each subject is pushed to such ridiculous extremes that one couldn't possibly take him seriously...Musically there isn't much to take seriously either. " hmmmm....let's see...you imply that you think it sucks so you decided to write about it? i don't get it.

Re: “Love-Hate Mail

As an alumnus of Hillsboro High from the class of 1970, I am saddened to hear that several people feel that the current principal has caused the cultural and curricular quality at Hillsboro to plummit. I was fortunate to attend when Taylor Hagan had replaced Hale Harris as principal. The school at that time already had top notch academic departments which improved even more so under Hagan's administration. I also credit Hagan with showing a greater regard for students' and teachers' civil liberties than his predecessors did while maintaining and even upgrading the already high quality of their academic departments. Under Hagan's administration, many of the History teachers tried to be more inclusive of minority contributions to U.S. History (a fore runner of multi-culturalism). Hagan was under a lot of pressure from conservatives and white supremists who did not like the major changes that he helped promote to provide more inclusiveness and scholarship. He defended my rights to take part in peaceful antiwar protests and liberalized the dress code. We also had teachers who were very strong in protecting the Bill of Rights. If Hagan is still alive, I sorely miss him. I am sorry to hear it if that has changed any since my graduation in 1970.

Re: Don & Roxie's "Business is Shot" As a concealed carry permit holder I will gladly patronize restaurants that respect my rights and understand that I'm not carrying to intimidate anyone, but rather to protect myself and other law abiding citizens. Thousands of your fellow Tennesseans have permits, so it is likely that you are near, even interacting with, a permit holder almost every day. Will you allow your unreasoning and unreasonable fear of guns to keep you from going about your daily life? Perhaps you should shift your line of thought to being thankful that some of your fellow citizens are ready and able to help you in the event you are confronted by criminal elements.
