Re: “The Arts Company

I find Charles Keiger's work pedestrian and derivative. It is based in subjective and laughable surrealism, all stolen from the greats and reduced here for consumption for those he thinks do not know his influences. A sad example of modern "surrealistic" art - (f)art for the simpleminded who "love pretty horsies." Honestly, get some Grant Wood and do yourself a favor.

Re: “Jefferson Street Missionary Baptist Church

I have attended this church for the last four years. The warmth, love and acceptance I have experienced as a white man in a predominantly black congregation has been my salvation. This church accepted me when "my own people" had rejected. I grew up a minister's son in a Southern Baptist church, a denomination formed in protest to the abolition of slavery, so the full circle is ironic. As a result of my upbringing I know exceptional theological teaching. Pastor Thomas is not only one of the greatest orators I've witnessed, but is a phenomenal theologian. Bible Study under his tutelage is priceless. Danny Tate

Re: “Chappy's

Never never never again. What a waste of money (over $100 in dinner for two). Worst restaurant ever: food is cold, salty or lacking any taste whatsoever. The waiter brought the wrong plate twicw and an incorect check twice. The green carpet on the floor is old and smells like tobacco

Re: “Crossroads

Saturday Night Oct 5th. Two bands, each better than the other (yes, that good). Flew in fom the Bay Area and was totally blown away. Hard to go home after the bands and very friendly folks we found everywhere. Love this bar and the entire city. God bless ya all!

Re: “Midtown Fellowship Church

they lost me at their web site with infant baptistm, which apparently they practice, but don't explain on their web site WHY -- apparently you have to go by their church to get the information on that. I also don't get the point of planting congregations in a city that is overflowing with churches of all denominations. If someone is Christian or curious in this city, they should not have a problem finding a church. Why do we need yet more? It's crazy IMO

Re: “Nashville Palace

I love the Nashville Palace and Robert's Western World because of the music! Here they play everything from a Western swing to a rockin' Chuck Berry back to a classic Marty Robbins' tune! ALL of the musicians could do their own show because they are THAT good, so it is an amazing, blow-your-socks off show EVERY SINGLE TIME when they play together. WOW. And this from a AC/DC, Alice Cooper, to the 80's rocker girl! Love the shows!

Food is hot, fresh! A basic menu, but keeping it simple means easy to serve a lot of people! Wait staff is clean, clean, clean!

Re: “Play Dance Bar

Everything about Play is AMAZING. I'm new to the gay scene, but I've been going at least once a week, at most three times. I usually go with my lesbian friends to dance, watch the shows, and just have a fun time. I love being able to be myself around others similar to myself. I like dancing with girls and boys in the same place, and it be seen as a normal thing. People usually say don't meet people in bars and clubs, but I recently met someone who has become very close to me. If it weren't for Play, we would have never met.

Re: “JC's Bullseye Sports Bar

My husband and I used to enjoy coming to this bar...a casual place to get out of the house and come to, have a few drinks while interacting with the friendly staff and watching a ball game on tv. We used to live down the road but bought a second home recently and hadn't been in several months... we went in this weekend and didn't recognize anyone. We were asked at the door whether we wanted to pay a cover or pay $10 for all you can drink draft beer for a few hours. We'd done this in the past, and agreed to do it again... we've always tipped the staff well knowing we'd paid our $10 and they took care of refilling our cups. We came to the bar intending on ordering dinner along with our drinks while watching a few football games. The strange feeling set in from the minute the daytime bartender about to leave came and asked me if she could get me a drink. I told her I'd like a Bud Light as we'd paid for the beer at the door. She apparently was unaware of this, and was very unfriendly as she turned to ask a male bartender what the "beer deal" was. Then she growled at me inquiring as to if we need 2 cups so she could get them in 1 trip (my husband was in the restroom). We have NEVER had an issue with staff in the past, and this didn't set well with me. We asked for Bud Light but I saw her get us Miller Lite... we didn't say anything, although neither of us are fans of Miller Lite. We drank it not wanting to cause a scene until my husband asked for a second beer. We asked for Bud Light and the bartender- tall, about 6'2, gray hair, mid-40's- poured Miller Lite and brought it back. When we asked about it he got very angry... apparently the Bud Light keg was having a problem. It wouldn't have been a big issue had he explained it to us (as is normal with customer service) and informed us they were about to attempt to fix it. He made a snide remark about how we had the "free beer" so we should be grateful to get whichever draft beer they chose to give us. This has never been the case before, and had we known this was the response paying our $20 would have gotten us, we would have declined and ordered our drinks one at a time. The bartender then proceeded, WITHIN OUR EARSHOT, to tell 2 females that we had no right to complain about Miller Light with our $10...this was completely unnecessary and classless! My husband and I due to long work hours don't get to get out much together, and given it's the first season of football, just wanted to hang out. Anyway, 1 of the females (blonde) who apparently is the bartender's girlfriend came over to apologize and asked us to be patient since she was the reason he was in a bad mood. I've worked in customer service, and your personal probelms should NEVER be taken out on customers. I am APPALLED at how we were treated... we used to patronize this location quite frequently, but will not anymore. If I was a bar owner, would absolutely want to know this was how my customers were being treated. He began yelling and cursing at both my husband and I, and while we were preparing to leave, THREW US OUT! Wow... I guess we'll stay closer to home and go to better establishments. How embarrassing JC's Bullseye, and shame on you...

Re: “Chase's Sports Bar & Grill

This could be a great club...nice d├ęcor, great dance floor and PA/lights. Unfortunately the club has placed them into a smoky-"biker/sports" bar niche, limiting the scope of the crowd they might be able to attract. They have pretty good food but a very limited menu. If they would shift their focus to being a restaurant with great food that had live music, and featured activities, they would attract a broader spectrum of people, who would travel greater distances to the club (that would not do so for a smoke filled music venue, with a only a typical bar food menu). I hope Chase figures out the correct formula to make this club successful. The Middle TN music scene could use a good vibrant high class music venue in the Hendersonville area.

Re: “The Groove Records

The best record store in town! They've got a great selection from soul to punk to local artists, and the folks that work there are awesome. Plus they have in-stores with awesome bands.

Re: “Sip Cafe

On a hot afternoon, swing by here and grab some delicious Mikes Ice cream. They have a fun variety of flavors... may I suggest coffee and red velvet cake! Super rich and creamy! Small cups start at $3.50

This cute little coffee shop also offers some local art to enjoy while waiting line, and if you like it, at home. It's right next to Mitchell Delicatessen and within walking distance of a few other cool vintage/artsy shops.

Re: “Ri'Chard's Louisiana Cafe

As a New Orleans native, I sincerely enjoyed and appreciated Ri'chard's Cafe'. There are a few restaurants dishing up Cajun, Southern and Creole cuisine in the Nashville Area but Ri'chard's offers "Langiappe"! That's French for, "A little bit extra". The food is delicious and the atmosphere is laid back and friendly. Richard Trest, the owner, is a working owner. Along side his restaurant staff, he cooks, cashiers brings food to the tables and even sits in with live bands contributing his awesome guitar playing or slapping the cajon but that's still not all! Richard is an accomplished musician himself and enjoys performing his own music for his patrons. It's all part of the experience expected and well-delivered at this establishment. Step into Ri'chard's Cafe' and find yourself in the deep south where the shrimp are frying and the file' gumbo is steaming. You may have just found your new kitchen-away-from-home! I did!
