The best thing about this bar, last time I went, was the wild, funny management byee a friendly Kurd, from that part of Iraq which fights Isis. Sometimes on a cool eve, he'll toss some meat on the grill outside, and invite the patrons to jump in. The down side is that they don't start serving beer until 3PM, which is 3 hours later than the nearby Springwater, but the maniacal diversity of its clientele, (hospital workers, pals of the owner, construction workers, neurosurgeons and retired lawyers, to set out a few), makes this a charming place for games which are played, especially, as I recall on Sunday, for the silent Nashville majority which does NOT go TO CHURCH..or, does go, and goes to the Corner Bar afterward.

Friendly staff, mixture of patrons, Great 2 for 1 beer specials on sun n thurs. Good grilled chicken wrap. Outside area is amazingly big. It's literally a mile n a half from my house n I feel safe to go there even if flying solo. Good bands on weekends n karaoke during the week. Me likey the Rusty :)

Round 2.

This was my second dinner at Puckett's, and it poured down rain both times. If Mother Nature is trying to stop me from eating here, she's going to have to do better than that.

I had planned on a smaller-size entree than usual, so I made sure to get an order of Bubba's Bones as an appetizer. Bubba's baby back ribs are dry-rubbed, cherry wood-smoked, flash-fried, and tossed in a sweet-hot barbecue sauce. That's a lot of hyphenated deliciousness. These were undoubtedly some of the best baby backs I've ever eaten, mostly because Puckett's actually knows how to cook them correctly. The ribs were very tender and equally juicy. Bubba's sauce was as hot as advertised, yet it was also oddly pleasant. It burned my lips for a few minutes afterward and definitely got my palate revved up.

On my first trip to Puckett's, I got a traditional two-meat barbecue plate. Today, however, I had only one thing on my mind: Piggy Mac! It's basically a personal-sized skillet of pulled pork topped with smoked Gouda macaroni and cheese. The Piggy Mac is supposed to come with an unnecessarily-healthy house salad, but I requested a side of smashed sweet potatoes instead. There was also mention of a jalapeno johnny cake.

I could definitely taste the jalapeno in the johnny cake, and there was only a moderate spiciness so I could enjoy it, too. The slight sweetness also helped to temper the heat quite nicely. Their sweet potatoes were as butter-heavy as good comfort food should be. I would have liked some marshmallows though, and maybe a little cinnamon or nutmeg to jazz up the flavors.

With the delectable Piggy Mac sitting before me, it was impossible to spend more than a minute or two tasting the side dishes. The macaroni was gooey and delicious, and its crumbly topping was a perfect crunchy addition to the overall texture. The pulled pork was just as tender and tasty as it was during my first visit. I managed to uncover a few bits of pork that still had their smoke ring. There were a few hints of smoke here and there, although cheese was certainly the dominant flavor. The melted cheese also made this dish a little greasy, but otherwise it was spectacular.

Their Deep Fried Brownie Sundae is almost irresistible, so the fact that we skipped out on dessert should tell you how full we all were. I'm already aching for another excuse to eat at Puckett's.

I wandered downtown to meet my mom and aunt, who were visiting for a few days. They're into touristy stuff, so I thought that Merchant's on Broadway would be a great spot to take them for lunch. I suppose I could have taken them to Robert's Western World or Wildhorse Saloon if we wanted to get super touristy, but those places are a bit more than I can handle.

There are still a few obvious remnants of the original pharmacy business in their first-floor bistro area, including the layout, marble counters, and abundant natural lighting. Even the attitudes at Merchants seem reminiscent of the past, exemplified by the hostesses and waitstaff who gave my family some great Nashville hospitality.

I didn't really have barbecue on my mind when we walked into Merchants, but when I saw a Smoked Brisket entree on the menu, I couldn't resist the temptation. Theirs comes with cornbread, coleslaw, and a chipotle-sorghum barbecue sauce. I asked for sauce on the side and also requested the house-made potato chips as a substitute side dish.

As expected, the potato chips were terrific. They were thick-cut chips with a ton of crunch. It was also patently obvious that they were homemade. The cornbread was beautifully sweet and very buttery. It tasted like there might have been some molasses mixed right in (or at least maybe some brown sugar).

Merchants' brisket is prepared with something they call a "Music City Rub," although I'm not sure exactly what that is. The meat was much smokier than I envisioned, so much so that it was immediately noticeable when I took my first bite. Their rub seasoning was decent enough, but the brisket didn't have much of a crust to speak of, so I feel like I missed out on a potential flavor source there. Despite its leanness, the brisket was still tender and juicy. What little fat there was had certainly soaked up plenty of flavor from the smoking process. It was rendered well, though there was a little too much of it packed together. The chipotle-sorghum barbecue sauce was good, too. It was only somewhat spicy, but paired nicely with the brisket.

We had an excellent meal at Merchants, and I'm sure we'll be back.

Good Music, Great out door venue with volleyball court League play during Spring and Summer, great to join or come by and watch. great deals on the Best Wings in town with many flavors, Nail heads are back, nailed shrimp, nailed nachos, chicken tenders, grilled and fried chicken wraps, burgers and more. With over 30 beers and growing adding more craft beers and more beers on tap. Pro Football every game on TVs, Basketball, Baseball, Hockey , Race days Sundays. Daily drink specials something for everyone Tuesday a blast with 2 for 1 on all I say all beers and well drinks and well wine WOW! this is truly a local non franchise great local bar...

The food is great! I recently went there and the food is keeping me coming back regularly so far altho the price is a little high. But I must say the service is slow. The waitresses are slow, the kitchen is slow, and the bartender is slow to cash you out. Otrherwise I wouldve given them a 5 instead of 4. I could work circles around those waitresses

The atmosphere is good. It is very well lit. It is not a dark dingy place. Fairly clean. Bartenders are nice and helpful. I went in by myself and its always awkward going somewhere for the first time especially by yourself. But met some nice people and had a great time. I love Karaoke. The set up was not the best but it wasn't bad. You have to sing on stage and you can barely hear yourself (no wireless mic and no monitor for the singer). Karaoke guy was great, very friendly ran it well. Bathroom were eh. Not the best, not the worst. Clean enough I didn't feel like I was going to catch anything. Beer was reasonable and even better during 2 for 1. Overall a very solid bar, good crowd, attentive and friendly staff, had a great time.

TL;DR: Service is spotty, food is mediocre, though they have a great booze selection and are very kind to drunks.

Like others, I was wondering what they were building for all those months in front of Frugal MacDoogal's. I'm also wondering why more businesses don't put up some kind of "coming soon" sign while they are being built. Before I get too far along, I want to explain my rating. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. Since they are new (and hopefully improving), I went with a 4, but my rating might have also been inspired a little by the round of Woodford Reserve Four Wood bourbon my friend bought us!

A couple of guys in our group do enjoy their bourbons and they were the main reason we ended up here. When we are out, they will order typically want something fancy like Blanton's while I'm happy with Jim Beam or a beer. Everyone in our group likes burgers though, and we agree that the food was good, not the best ever but not bad. My cheeseburger was big and cooked right and the sweet potato fries were tasty.

The environment is very nice and the beer and spirits selections are impressive. Didn't take long to get service once we seated ourselves, but we were so loud it was probably hard to ignore us. Prices are reasonable and we think the potential there, especially once the weather is good enough to take advantage of the outdoor seating.

I've wandered in twice minutes before closing after ragers at the breweries down the road, and they've been kind enough to let me buy their last plates of the night and get me a cab. Super nice of them, and I won't begrudge them my money for it!

I caught the scent of delicious hickory smoke wafting through the parking lot. This was a good sign. I "checked in" on Yelp and received an offer for "1 free Hand Rub." Despite the obvious and hilarious double entendre, I declined the offer. I prefer to make my own rubs.

After a quick perusal of the menu, I decided to make my 3 Meat Combo a true cross-section of America: Tennessee pork shoulder, Texas beef brisket, and St. Louis pork ribs. For my two sides, I picked potato salad and mac & cheese. Their combos also come with either cornbread or toast, which is a no-brainer of a decision.

The mac & cheese was creamy and cheesy, but nothing special. The potato salad was slightly sweet, with just enough mustard to help the taste without being overpowering. Their cornbread has a flaky consistency similar to pound cake, and was equally as sweet. This was a great palate cleanser in between the side dishes and the main event.

I ended up with a leaner cut of brisket, which despite my fears was actually very tender. My slices had a dark black crust and a deep red smoke ring. The flavors were really nice, and there was plenty of smoke. It wasn't quite the Central Texas brisket I hoped for, but it was still very good.

The pork shoulder had a nice smoky hue and lots of bark mixed throughout. The meat was tender, but bordering on mushy. The bark packed the most flavor, though the rest also had a nice taste. There was a decent amount of smoke here too.

Their St. Louis ribs had a good crust and a decent smoke ring. They weren't as meaty as I would have liked, but the flavors were great. Each bite had ample smoke, although some coarse black pepper would have made the crust even better. The meat was tender, succulent, and juicy, but not falling off the bone. And yes, that's a good thing.

Surprisingly, the pulled pork shoulder was my favorite part of this meaty trio. I usually find myself unimpressed by pulled pork, but Jack's proved that any meat can be fantastic if you know how to smoke it.

You'll find this place in an old converted house just south of campus. Despite the meek, unassuming facade, it has lots of atmosphere and character inside. The decor is a bit haphazard, but I liked it. There is also a large outdoor patio that I'm sure plays well with the nearby coeds.

I ordered exactly what I came for: The Barnyard Dog. This bad boy comes with pulled pork, bbq sauce, and coleslaw. Fabulous!

Most places offering a "bbq hotdog" simply drizzle a little sauce and call it good, but not The Dog. I ended up with heaping portions of slaw and pulled pork. The big, plump hotdog was a great support structure for the hefty toppings. The crunchy slaw paired really well with the tender pork, and the sugary sweet sauce tied everything together nicely. On the down side, I couldn't find any smoke, but that's really my only complaint.

Obviously a hotdog pales in comparison to true barbecue (especially if you're a Texan), but this dog was delicious in its own right. I'll definitely be back.

As a native Texan, Judge Bean unsurprisingly and thankfully gravitates toward brisket rather than pulled pork. A man after my own heart. He is also apparently a descendent of the infamous Texas lawman Judge Roy Bean, which is just awesome.

Part of me was anticipating a counter-service barbecue joint, but Judge Bean's uses waitresses. As I frequently do when dining alone, I saddled up to the bar. The very friendly bartender took great care of me. In fact, everyone I encountered here was exceptionally welcoming. Clearly the staff has been instructed on the finer points of Texas charm as well as Texas 'que.

Since Judge Bean's specializes in Texas-style barbecue, and since I was feeling a little homesick, a Texas Trinity was in order. I got their 3-Meat Smokehouse Combo with brisket, ribs, and sausage, as well as potato salad and cowboy beans for my two sides. I also couldn't help tacking on a piece of their so-called Texas Sushi for good measure.

My Texas Sushi appetizer came out first. What you have here is a jalapeno stuffed with sausage and cream cheese, wrapped in brisket. It's kind of like a California roll, except for men. The brisket had a nice smoke ring and was quite tender despite being a leaner cut of meat. I found a great hit of smoke and heat in each bite, tempered nicely by the cream cheese. Good thing I had a big glass of sweet tea to cool things down. The entire thing was absolutely fantastic.

I enjoyed their mayonnaise-based potato salad, which was a nice change of pace from the mustard-based potato salads I usually find in my travels. Without the overpowering mustard flavors, I could really taste the pickles and pimento. According to the menu, the cowboy beans are "not a sleeping partners favorite," so I'll apologize in advance to my wife. The beans had a ton of flavor, and there was definitely some spiciness to them.

The brisket had a deep red smoke ring which perfectly matched the equally smoky flavor. The dark black bark was also extremely tasty. Though lean, the brisket was magnificently tender. What little fat there was had been rendered beautifully. In addition to signifying the proper cooking time/temperature, this also tells me that Judge Bean's truly cares about their product.

Barbecued sausage seems to be a rare find in Middle Tennessee, so the Czech in me was happy to see it at Judge Bean's. The casings were very crisp, with each bite "popping" in my mouth. I could really taste the smoke, which isn't always the case with sausage. This was most assuredly not made in-house, but it was still really tasty.

These ribs didn't have as much of a crust as I was expecting. I did, however, appreciate that they weren't served drowning in sauce. The meat was very tender, but sadly had no bone retention. Perhaps this was an attempt to appease local demands for "falling-off-the-bone" ribs. That being said, they had a nice smoke level and an all-around great flavor.

Next time I eat at Judge Bean's, I may just order up a dozen pieces of Texas Sushi and call it good.

Hard to beat Soulshine overall. Food is pretty good and prices are too. Music almost every night and no cover charge. Good selection of beer and huge 2nd story outdoor patio. One of my faves and you never know who you might see jammin' in there (from celebrities to up and coming new blues rock artists). One of the best spots in Midtown for sure.

I've been to this theatre several times & found it satisfactory. The admission price of 5.50 after 4 pm is Great and is unmatched. So what if its not "new". Only problem I found was too cold one time but warmed up later on after movie playing awhile.

Stepped in for a few, but stayed for awhile. Cool spot to for date night. Just a bit dark and the TVs could be larger. The food smelled great, I had already eaten but I live close and will be back!
