For appetizers we had the Charcuterie platter w/duck prosciutto, mortadella, country pâté and cheese platter. Both of which were excellent. There was a wide variety of meats and cheeses. I think 5 of each in just the right proportions; each very unique and tasty. A great way to start off the meal, especially with wine.
The grilled octopus pesto sauce was the best I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot of bad octopus. It was tender (really) and so mild, yet tasty. It was a simple dish that highlighted the octopus; rather than buries it. I think it may have been smoked lightly – just plain wonderful. The Georgia shrimp w/leek fondue, spring peas, ramps, citrus was absolutely delicious. I could have eaten a bowl of the warm leek fondue and ramps. The pea puree burst of spring and made the dish rise to another level. The BBQ pork sliders on sweet potato biscuits were a disappointment. The biscuits were dry and there was the classic mistake that many non-Southern chefs make with BBQ – sauce should be used sparingly (not drenched) because BBQed meat is great by itself. The venison w/ mushrooms, spaghetti squash, and parsnips was excellent. Cooked perfectly to a medium rare, tender and flavorful.
The wine selection is superb. They know their wines and are happy to share their knowledge no matter how much or little you know about wine.
Wait staff and bartender are friendly and superb. Not only do they know the menu, they know the wines to pair with your choices. They are engaging - they listen to your preferences and ask questions before making suggestions. They are attentive and responsive with the littlest request such as a little more pesto to finish off the grilled octopus.
The ambience is simple elegance. The bar and dining area are far enough apart not to interfere with each other. It is a quiet, romantic and lovely restaurant.
I don't feel it's really fair to give a restaurant only 1 star based on your dislike of the parking situation.
Here's a REAL review of the actual restaurant.
Pleasant interior, much sleeker and more upscale than you'd expect based on the menu. Food is fresh and freshly prepared. Decent wine selection. Nothing knocked my socks off, but I've never been disappointed with what I ordered. A lot will depend on whether you like the concept and flavor combinations (I do). A perfectly decent casual chain concept that feels more sophisticated than a casual chain concept, and a good choice for lunch or an inexpensive dinner choice before heading out to downtown events.
Over priced. I also asked if they validated parking in the garage, was told they did, but then really they didn't validate. I hate having to pay for parking at an establishment I'm already giving money to. Valet was not there that day either.
I visit Rumours on a regular basis. The food choices are are limited but fresh and delicious. The cheese plate and hummus are generous and I typically request extra crackers and bread. The wine can be expensive but Rumours does run specials so ask your server. The service is good (prompt and friendly). I love to sit on the patio on nice evenings. Rumours is great for a girls night or date night.
FANTASTIC. Ambience, service, wines, flavors, quality of food...all amazing. Had white Italian wine flyte, salad flyte, halibut, a chocolate flyte dessert, and even tried a Muscat from the dessert wine menu. Savored every bite! Can't say enough about this place. One of the best meals of my life, no kidding.
I went to rumors last night. I was very dissapointed with it. My friend said it was a great place for mussels. First I thought it was a very high priced restaurant for the amount of food that they give you. We ordered the cheese platter. This came with a few crackers and some slices of cheese and bread. The crackers and the bread were unimpressive and dry. The cheese was tasty. The mussels tasted good but were not out of this world. In all we had two glasses of wine, the cheese and crackers and two orders of mussels (all appetizers) and the bill was $73.00!! I will not go back there. The service was good.
