Re: “Cock of the Walk

Very small menu, but if catfish, chicken and steak are you thing, your in luck. This is the specialty. It brings to life What back porch dining is all about, very southern and very casual. Prices are reasonable and the food is plentiful. Come hungry and be prepared to take a doggie bag home. Great place for large groups and families. This is a no frills place but worth the trip! When you have something this good, you do not need an 8 page menu.

Re: “Bricks Café

HAIR IN MY FOOD!
First off--let me say that I WAS a loyal customer to Bricks. We eat at the Brentwood location probably 3-5 times/ month and we also eat at or get take-out from the Nolensville Road location 3-5 times/month for the past year+.

This past Sunday, while I was dining at the Brentwood/Franklin Road location with family, we had the worst experience and because of it, will NOT be dining at Bricks ever again.

I found a nasty hair in my steamed vegetables. It was so intertwined into a piece of broccoli that when I picked up the hair, the broccoli came with it. Now, I will admit that I have medium length hair and it was not pulled back that afternoon. However, if my hair fell onto the plate, one would think that I would be able to pick the hair up off the top of the food and remove it. This piece of hair, as I stated before, was intertwined in the head of the broccoli. I doubt it fell off of my head and got that tangled around a piece of food.

I called the manager (who might also be the owner? tall, big belly, bad attitude) over to the table to show him the hair in my food. The only word (besides jerk) that comes to mind is completely APATHETIC! He could care less. I wasn't rude, I wasn't ugly, I wasn't really even that upset. I just wanted him to know that somehow hair was getting into their food. Because, let's get real--mistakes happen. His reaction----"there is no way that could have happened. Our vegetables come to us fresh in a sealed bag." Okay--so a human with hair doesn't package them? A human with hair doesn't get them out of the package when they are cooked? A human with hair doesn't plate them? He NEVER apologized. He acted as if he could care less. He didn't offer to refund the meal....nothing! In fact, I saw him over behind the hostess stand talking to our server & the hostess with a look of total smirk on his face. After that point, our server never spoke to us as she came back to the table. No offer for refills, nothing. They, of course, did not refund the meal. As we were leaving, the hostess just looked at us and did not speak. They acted as if we did something wrong. The manager/owner saw us getting up from our table and turned and walked to the back of the restaurant so he wouldn't have to talk to us as we were leaving.

Last I checked, the restaurant business is pretty competitive. Obviously, this guy doesn't care. The worst customer service I have seen in a long time. Because of his bad attitude (not the hair), they have lost our business.

Re: “Taziki's

I have eaten at Kalamata for the last few years and always thought their food was fine. I do think the service is pretty slow there and its a bit expensive.

I thought the food at Tazikis was delicious. The pork sandwich is a sleeper on the menu that I really enjoyed - but my staples are usually the salads (omg that lamb!) which are pretty healthy and the meat is very fresh and flavorful.

The reviewer above is judging the restaurant completely on the service model aka "fast casual" I think they call it - seems kind of silly. The food is on par or better than most sit down greek places I have eaten and the price is a steal.

I would recommend checking this place out.

Re: “Stone House Q

Wow!! Best BBQ I have ever had. The pulled pork was perfectly smoked and tender, the coleslaw of a flawless consistency and the corn light bread a wonderful compliment to the food. My husband got the ribs and swears he'll never go anywhere else for a better execution AND DEAL; the mess O'greens so delicious you wouldn't know you were eating healthy! With Happy Hour prices that you can't beat offered all day, we will return whenever we crave some southern barbecue DONE RIGHT and cheap cold one to wash it all down :)

Stone House Q puts Hog Heaven, Jacks, Calhouns, Jim N' Nicks, Whitts, and Famous Daves COMBINED to shame! Thanks for becoming a new favorite!

Re: “Manny's House of Pizza

As a native New Yorker, one of the hardest things for me was not having real pizza, the good stuff. A few months ago, I had a friend visiting who took a condo midtown, one rainy afternoon, we wanted to have something delivered for lunch, and we descided on pizza. Neither one of us are big fans of "chains" and and descided to try Manny's. Delivery was on point and much to our delight the pizza was a little slice of NY. From the sauce to the crust, the perfectly seasond sauce, special cheese, it was perfect. I will never complain that I am missing pizza again, thank you!

Re: “Mama Mia's

I agree with Joe Savage & Nyshired about Moma Mia's- It just plane sucks. When you walk in the sign on the table says $5.00 corking fee & $2.50 per six pack of beer- Why ?
They had many tables available but wanted to seat us at the table by the door, it's December & cold-we had to ask for another table.
The servers & Manager just don't care if you are happy or not.
We ordered two entrees, one Lasagna & one Penne bolognese with sasage. We received the extravaganza & the Penne pesto.
Both dishes were cold. I think we got someone elses order ?
When we finally found our server she said she would talk to the manager ? Why ? (Just bring us the right orders) She returned and said the manager would adjust the price- now we are paying more for the meals we didn't order and it was also cold?
I gave up trying to comunnicate with insanity, paid the bill and left- never to return :~( Barry Harkin, Nashville, TN

Re: “Sperry's Restaurant

Just did Sperry's again for about the 10 time, all the while hoping I would somehow find the love my spouse has for this place. Sadly, no. While being legend in Nashville it's all smoke and mirrors (er, "grease and dust" would be more appropriate). Decor strait out of "Jolly Ox" era of steakhouses circa 1972. Menu is very standard AARP fare, beef, chicken, pork chop, salmon and one other fish/shell food. Grim salad bar, dungeon like interior, and average age of customer = 70. Reasonable wine list, good bar service, food is high quality and tasty but, heavily salted and bathed in butter and or cheap cheese. Nothing close to "light and natural" here with perhaps the exception of the crab cakes (exceptional). If you long for the feel of a chain midscale steakhouse from the 1970's complete with the accumulated filth of the past 40 years coupled with reasonably good but, heavy food at a price close to double what it should be then, Sperry's is for you.

Re: “Pie in the Sky

Very confused by the other review here. Why did they give a 5 star review if they were so dissatisfied. Not sure how a pizza can be overcooked and chewy.

In either case I love this place. Never had a bad time of a bad pizza. Make sure you try this place out for yourself.

Re: “Elliston Place Soda Shop

Excellent meat and three. Really liked the roast beef, mashed potatoes, and fried corn.

Re: “12South Taproom

Great bar and great atmosphere. The menu looks promising but the execution leaves something to be desired. We had 3 entrees and 2 appetizers everything was significantly under seasoned which was rather unfortunate because like I said previously their food looks great on paper. As far as the selection of beers go it is 2nd to none. The bartender was very helpful recommending new draft selections.

The Good:
Great Atmosphere
Great Beer Selection
Good Prices

The Mediocre:
Food Execution
The crowd - total Hipster bar (if you are into that kinda thing its great)

Re: “Firefly Grille

When you read that the decor is funky, believe it. Be prepared. It looks like someone went into the attic and just stapled what they found to the walls. It is a bit of a shocker at first but as the night goes on, it creats really good conversation topics.
Once you have gotten over the tacky decorations, order all three courses. The food is amazing and you shouldn't miss out on any of it! Don't waste your meal on the hamburger, get adventurous and order one of the amazing creations from the chef.
The waiters seem a little funny in the head, but they are very well informed about the menu. They can help you with everything down to the wine selection. I was impressed when the waiter didn't suggest the most expensive item on the list. He really tried to find something that would meet what we wanted.
Though the food is amazing, the price is high. Be prepared to spend when you come. Believe me when I say it is completely worth it!

Re: “Back To Cuba Cafe

This hole-in-the-wall place is AMAZING! Always packed with people, and always clean. Bring your own beer or wine. The food is reasonably priced and the plantains are cooked to perfection. Tastes like REAL Cuban food, i highly recommend this place.

Re: “Taziki's

I've got to speak up here: for "Fast Casual" - I think Taziki's is worth another try. On Thursdays, the fish taco is delish. And you can ask for "extra slaw" or customize your order. They have such a healthy menu and the Vandy location is already packed w/students. I'd say the price point could come down a snitch. Delicious fish taco and sides.

Someone needs to tell Mr. Kalamata (I love him, that's not really his name) to get two cash registers! The order-fullfillers are constantly waiting on the single order-taker! He gets offended when I bring it up!
Kalamata's is very good, but they can improve the order situation.

Re: “Watermark

If you have a bit of extra cash on you and expect to eat higher on the hog, this is the restaurant for you. Expect to be treated as a valued member of society in this establishment as they have car valets, segmented dining rooms and plenty of diners who prefer to move in the upper eschelons.

Dinner proves to be good and the wine selection is fair. Its exactly what you would expect from a fine dining experience.

Re: “Sambuca

My anniversary was marred by the lousy singer and her accompanyist. The wait staff was pleasant enough, but the food was on the small side for the price and the wine, a half bottle, was a bit on the high side for only a half-bottle.

The singer was doing a countrified version of Sade, and my husband is a big Sade buff, so it just put him out. All in all, the cost plus the mediocre to not good at all entertainment made it the moderate experience it was.

Re: “Cantina Laredo

When your boss asks to go here for his birthday, know that you are going to get some pretty nice food, presented fairly and that it will taste good. Ask for a water with lime and the taste of the tortilla chips comes alive. This place's claim to fame is that they make the guac fresh at your table and they prepare it with fresh ingredients to make your tastebuds grateful and wish for an encore.

The rest of the fare does not disappoint and depending upon what you get, its pretty good. So, gather a small crowd and go, because while its not cheap, its also not so expensive that you wouldn't take your whole family for a treat. The service staff are very good at refilling your drink and asking if you can hold any more in your gullet.

Enjoy!
