Re: “Pizzereal

Dear Gabe: To call that the worst pizza you've ever had only requires having no idea what an actual pizza would taste like. This is a real one, and people who've lived in real pizza making towns will tell you so.

Re: “Urban Flats [Closed]

Over priced. I also asked if they validated parking in the garage, was told they did, but then really they didn't validate. I hate having to pay for parking at an establishment I'm already giving money to. Valet was not there that day either.

Re: “Mama Mia's

TERRIBLE SERVICE/RUDE SERVERS!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!

I have to say that after my experience this weekend I will never be returning to Mama Mia's! We went out there for a 29th birthday dinner for my girlfriends sister at 6 pm on saturday with a party of 6. As we walked through the door we were greeted by a tall, dark haired, and skinny male server who was completely rude to us and acted like it was a complete inconvenience that we were even there. He was very rude and informed us that we would not be able to sit down for at least an hour. As mama Mia's is completely disorganized and had nowhere to wait to be seated , we offered to go back to my girlfriends sisters house, which is around the corner to wait. They said they would call us when a table was ready. (By the way if they took reservations all this disorganization would be alleviated! However they do not unless you have eight in your party and they cannot even accommodate a party of 6 as I found out!)I have worked in the service industry for years and have never encountered anyone as a host who was as rude as this waiter/Host! Furthermore , this individual has waited on me before and he was always sub par, Never kept wine glasses full, lack of silverware when entrees arrived, not around to uncork wine when needed , took forever to greet the table , and on multiple occasions,I might add. To be honest I don't know how he even has a job! The other servers there are not much better either, so do not expect good service if you go here! He went so far on one occasion, to drop the check after we received our entrees because he said he needed to get out early to go downtown! Anyway, we were never called and went back to the restaurant after an hour and a half to be greeted by the owner who told us she had no idea what we were talking about when we told her that we had signed in in the book for a table at 6 . She noticed the mistake then . She did NOTHING to rectify the situation except say that we could wait another half an hour for a table! She even proceeded to sit a group right in front of us! This restaurant owner could have done something to appease our group of Mama Mia's regulars! I have bought gift certificates and referred people to the restaurant in the past because I always thought the food was decent for the price, even though service was sub-par!. The owners of this restaurant could care less about keeping anyone happy and would rather ruin my friends 29th birthday without offering any compensation for their mistake. I have never encountered this in my life! They should get a real manager to straighten that place out. Needless to say after we realized that the owner could have cared less she had screwed up, and after 2 hours of waiting, we went somewhere else (los arcos) and had a great dining experience. Thanks for ruining my friends 29th birthday because you and your staff are too incompetent to run a restaurant! Don't go to Mama Mia's unless you want to be treated very rudely, have very poor service, and possibly cold food as well.I will deter anyone I know from ever going back!!

Re: “Mellow Mushroom

Mellow's crust is out of this world. Get the Kosmic Karma, it's increĆble. The service overall is pretty good, except last time I went there was this new hostess (the one with blond hair, short, young, with ear gauges)...she was extremely unfriendly and made my party and me feel like we were very un-welcomed. But overall it's great food and service, just that one girl was really off...the only reason I'm not rating it 5 stars

Re: “Pizzereal

My husband and I LOVE the Spinache. We've lived in East Nashville for 7 years and when we eat pizza, it is the Spinache every time!! The staff is warm and friendly..a true neighborhood pizza spot. The atmosphere is great in the winter by the fire or in the summer on the patio. If I lived in Franklin, I would drive all the way to 5 Points just for the food at PizzeReal! Do yourself a favor and give it a try yourself!!

Re: “Pizzereal

I actually have been to Pizzareal many times, and I found their Pizza Spinachi to be probably the best pizza I've ever eaten (with the possible exception of the spinach pie at Santarpio's in Boston.)
I love their skyline view from the patio, and the fireplace in the brisk weather.
The service is good, the people are friendly.
What's not to like??

Re: “Bricks Café

I came to Franklin for my daughter's horse show and after a long day at the barn we would up at this little hole in the wall. I wasn't expecting much due to its location in a strip mall, I should have listened to my mom about not judging a book by its cover. The food was awesome and I tasted everything everyone ordered. Don't go to this restaurant and not order their smoked gouda artichoke dip, it's a wonderful surprise. As Arnold would say "I'll be back".

Re: “Sole Mio

Love this place! The food is delicious. I always manage to eat more than I should. Its not often that I get authentic Italian food like this. While the atmosphere is a little more reserved, I prefer a little more noise/activity... I have NEVER had a bad experience and I love introducing friends and family there

Re: “Mama Mia's

Disregard Joe Savage's review above as it reeks of ignorance. Mama Mia's was opened over 20 years ago by a Cuban family and was bought in 1994 by the Martinez family (also of Latin American heritage) and considering their staying power, they're obviously doing something right. Every time I've been to Mama's Mia's we've had exceptional Italian food (regardless if it's prepared by a Spanish-speaking/non-Sicilian staff) and friendly service. The Bring Your Own Wine bottle policy is a nice compliment to a romantic atmosphere. I recommend it to everyone I know in Nashville asking for a great Italian meal.

Re: “Bricks Café

We entered Brick's Cafe with pretty low expectations. We hadn't heard anything about it, neither good nor bad, however we had noticed more than one (in Nolensville & Brentwood) and just chalked it up to yet another soulless, flavorless chain restaurant of which most Nashvillian's seem to be inexplicably fond. These factored in with the fact that the facade of the building looks like a sports bar.
Entering the restaurant was a bit confusing. The ambiance was upscale-casual, there was a nice brick oven behind the well manicured bar, the serving staff looked rather professional and the artwork was tasteful, though admittedly scant.
We took two seats at the bar next to the brick oven. We were approached by a server right away and given both food and drink menus. I noticed immediately that the wine list mark-up, both glass and bottle, was among the lowest I have ever seen and these weren't the standard Yellowtail/Barefoot (blech!) products that you would usually see at these price points. These were quality, respectable, tasty wines that could be paired with the menu and actually compliment them.
While ordering our food I was a bit skeptical of the menu. It was large and that normally means that the food isn't fresh or it's just plain bland. I've worked in upscale and fine dining with well-seasoned cooks and chefs for over a decade and I've seen how a kitchen can struggle when there are too many products to manage. Again, with low expectations, I ordered the jumbo lump crab cakes. I wasn't incredibly hungry, but I anticipated that at the least they would go well with my glass of chardonnay. Then they arrived. Wait!?! Is that actually jumbo lump backfin crab? It was, and there was more than I have ever seen in and/or on a crab cake. You just don't see that anymore. Eighty percent of the time I order crab cakes anywhere, I'm not convinced crab is even an ingredient. This had it in spades. The pepper and onion sauce they were rested on was a fantastic compliment. My girlfriend had an interesting bowtie pasta/romaine lettuce dish that incorporated grilled chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, pesto and parmesan. She allowed me to have a few bites and just like my dish, it was delicious and far exceeded expectations. Here's the kicker for me: from my understanding, the amicable gentleman making pizzas in the brick oven behind the bar was one of the partner-owners. A hand's on, involved member of upper management getting his hands dirty in front of a hot oven all while getting to know his clientele, rather than micro-managing his front of house staff is a rare and valuable asset in the food-service industry. No, we aren't longtime friends. I never met "Jimbo" before tonight.
It wasn't that this was the best restaurant I've ever had the pleasure of dining in. It wasn't that it had the most exquisite menu or rarest wine list. It was the fact that I just had the opportunity to enjoy a relaxed and unpretentious dining experience with phenomenal food, made from high quality and fresh ingredients with great drinks, all while being serviced by a genuinely friendly and knowledgeable staff and I won't have to pack a lunch for the rest of the week to make up for the cost of the tab. The value this place offers is absurd. Look, I know what this sounds like and NO, I don't work there. I just feel that this restaurant and the people that work there deserve to have Nashville know that this is a great establishment that I hope succeeds. God knows Nashville doesn't need anymore Olive Garden's, Applebee's, O'Charlies', Chili's, etc. Brick's, you've got at least one very loyal new customer in me. I will be back, VERY soon. Thanks.

Re: “Mafiaoza's

I love good pizza and Mafiazo's definitely delivers.. Great tasting pies for sure. BUT - Its very expensive for pizza.. I like going here. Would go here more often but once you get a couple of drinks, a salad to share, and a pizza, you have already dropped at least $60.00. There are a lot more restaurants I would go to before Mafiazo's if I am planning on dropping that kind of coin... Its in a great neighborhood, great atmosphere at the restaurant, very nice patio, but in the end its just pizza. Delicious pizza. :)

Re: “Mama Mia's

There is nothing at all unique or special about this restaurant, except to say that one could find better food in a jar of Spaghetti-O's. The pasta was ordered al dente but came out slimy & soggy. The sauce was very sweet and tasted like it was prepared by a rank amateur. The amount of pasta served barely covered the bottom of the plate and the price for it all was ridiculous. When I stated I did not like the pasta and wished to just pay for the salad, I was charged $6.00. Needless to say I will not return to this place anytime soon. Full blame for this is poor management and certainly not Sicilian. The cooks in the rear all spoke Spanish. Not a pretty sight.

Re: “Pie in the Sky

What a difference location can make. The "Pie" near Vandy has very poor service. The servers claimed they were confused as to was assigned to our table. How many times has a black person heard that? The pizza was overcooked and the thin crust was chewey. Wings were nuked to death. I'll drive to Cool Springs before I go there again.

What a difference location can make, the location near Vandy gave very poor service. Of course the waitresses said they were confused over who was assigned our table. How many times has a Black/African American heard that? Pizza was overcooked/dry. Crust was gooey. Wings were nuked to death with no flavor. I'll drive to Cool Springs before I eat there again.

Re: “Pizzereal

Worst pizza I've ever had. We "splurged" to get the house specialty pizza (the Pizza Spinache @ over $20). I've had better frozen pizza. Seriously. Don't waste your time or your money on this place...

Re: “City House

The anchovy pizza was amazing, as well as everything else. The crust was perfect and they didn't overdo the cheese. Don't skip one of the few restaurants here, if not the only one, that hand-cures their own mozzarella. This is by far a favorite!

Re: “Bricks Café

Kind a a big black box room with little to no atmosphere. Food is decently priced and the menu is HUGE. If you want a nice relaxed meal, this is not the place. Once the food is delivered, I think they start a clock in the back to see how quickly they can get you out of the place. Once the check comes, better have you glass full because the refills stop. Don't even ask for a party of 6. I think it overloads their system.

Re: “Sole Mio

Nice atmosphere, but that's about it. Rude waitstaff (our large group was automatically gratuitized, so maybe that's why?). Our waiter spilled my glass of wine and I had to ask him to replace it for free (he wanted to charge us). One rude look later, he did eventually bring a new glass on the house. I also ordered the 3 course special. Our waiter instead ticketed the first 2 courses a la carte, which was, of course, more expensive. He tried to charge for the 3rd course, but I just declined the dessert. The food was bland, and more expensive than most Italian restaurants in Nashville. Mama Mia's is much better. Avoid this place.
