Re: “Sole Mio

I hate having to write negative reviews, but if I could save someone from a bad experience, then I feel somewhat obligated. Went to Sole Mio's with a small group celebrating multiple birthdays. Never been before, but we were in the mood for Italian and were going to a show a few blocks away after dinner, so it fit nicely with our plans. We were in a great mood, so it took a lot to bring us down. Every course we ordered was bland and boring, which is inexcusable considering that it is more expensive than other local Italian restaurants that offer the same items. There were no real values on the wine list. Markup was substantial for a restaurant as sub par as it was. Do you know how depressing it is to say "This dish actually tasted better at Olive Garden"? I absolutely hate Olive Garden. It was that bad. I know I might sound somewhat cheap complaining about prices. To clarify, I don't mind at all to pay more for better quality food. But if you can't even beat Olive Garden, then you probably should just shut it down. To wrap the meal up, we got a few desserts for the table. The waiter said they were "taken care of", since we were celebrating multiple birthdays. They weren't. He still charged us anyway. In short, if you like Italian food, don't go here. It's just sad.

Re: “Pomodoro East

I went with my wife on Saturday night for dinner 2nd time and I will never go back!

We were there when they first opened and had enjoyed it very much. But recent visit is not good. The wait staff was dis-organized. I'd ordered a glass of Chianti (my wife doesn't drink) and Mussels Antipasti to share and for entree - Flat iron Steak and Chicken and mushroom pizza. The Mussels was cooked in the wood oven and it was average (We liked the one at mAmbu more). then we waited at least 20 minutes for our entrees to come to table.. many folks were seated later than us had already gotten their food. Our waitress kept "Yapping" to other tables and had forgotten our food. Finally the food came out. the steak and pizza were cold (clearly has been sitting at the service station for sometime after it prepared)...The waitress apologized and said it just came out the window (what window?) and do not know what happen. The manager came by and again apologized and promised to make us fresh if we want to wait. ok. Since we waited this long. Well. They just re-heated them. The steak now over-cooked than what we ordered "medium rare" and the pizza - well (taste like I just nuked the left-over pizza from microwave). It's ashamed. I really liked their pizza, however I did not go there and eat a greasing "left-over" pizza!

The apologetic waitress offered us free dessert - on the house but we declined. We paid and left.

Re: “Mama Mia's

My wife and I went in for dinner on a Wednesday night; I hadn't been in years and it was her first visit. I remembered the service being mediocre but the food being very good.

The service hasn't changed -- it was appallingly bad. The restaurant is not well-run from a service perspective; of the 3 servers on-shift one was far more concerned with loudly sorting and rolling clean silverware than running any food, which was left in the window for minutes at a time. The credit card machine was broken, and I overheard from another table that their soda machine was not functioning, either. For a restaurant that serves neither alcohol nor tea, it appeared the beverage choices left were tap water and sprite. Mercifully, we had purchased a bottle of wine from the nearby liquor store, which proved the saving grace of the evening.

The food? Perhaps my palate has improved, my memory was inaccurate, or the food has simply gone downhill. The salads were slathered in bottled, flavorless, pre-made dressing. The pasta was not fresh -- while properly cooked, it was clearly dried pasta. The sauces were average; the bolognese lacked any richness or depth. The garlic bread (which we asked for repeatedly and was delivered near the end of the meal) tasted like it had been popped out of a Pillsbury can -- artificial and oily. I felt the prices were not in line with the quality.

Overall, I couldn't recommend this to anyone -- in the 20 years since this place opened, Nashville now has many Italian options that do a better job than Mama Mia's in all areas -- decor, service, and most importantly, food.

Re: “Mama Mia's

I agree with Joe Savage & Nyshired about Moma Mia's- It just plane sucks. When you walk in the sign on the table says $5.00 corking fee & $2.50 per six pack of beer- Why ?
They had many tables available but wanted to seat us at the table by the door, it's December & cold-we had to ask for another table.
The servers & Manager just don't care if you are happy or not.
We ordered two entrees, one Lasagna & one Penne bolognese with sasage. We received the extravaganza & the Penne pesto.
Both dishes were cold. I think we got someone elses order ?
When we finally found our server she said she would talk to the manager ? Why ? (Just bring us the right orders) She returned and said the manager would adjust the price- now we are paying more for the meals we didn't order and it was also cold?
I gave up trying to comunnicate with insanity, paid the bill and left- never to return :~( Barry Harkin, Nashville, TN

Re: “Bella Napoli

While the food was good, the service was TERRIBLE. Our waitress was very pleasant, but we had two issues. First, my ID was denied because it looked 'fake'. While I was visiting from out of state, I had two forms of identification and it still look half an hour to get my glass of wine. Second, The group I went with was using a Scoutmob. When we received our checks the alcohol was not discounted. We had to send the check back 3 times before we asked for the manager. The manager was the RUDEST manager I have encountered at a restaurant. When we asked about the discount on the alcohol, his response was 'We have never discounted alcohol before and if you have a problem with the Scoutmob you need to call them and complain'. The Scoutmob did not say the deal excluded alcohol, but the manager didn't seem to want to work with us at all. He was not listening, just talking in a very condescending manner. I will not be going back to Bella Napoli EVER. And if you plan on drinking a glass of wine, don't expect a discount if you're using a Scoutmob. This is a very unfortunate situation, food was good, but you can't have a successful restaurant with a terrible manager.

Re: “Giovanni Ristorante

The WORST + most over priced restaurant in Nashville. $90 for 2 waters, 2 cold pasta dinners and a pizza dinner ??? Go to Valentino's instead. Don't set foot in Giovanni Ristorante. Ever. 1. They brought dinners 1 minute after setting pizza appetizer on table. Two $25 pasta dinners sat cold as we ate the pizza. Pizza was good. 2. Pasta is lackluster and mediocre at best. HORRIBLE value. I realize you get what you pay for and better food is priced accordingly but this menu is so overpriced its offensive. I regularly eat at the best restaurants in town and this is definitely not one of them. 4. Want bread or rolls? Well you better ask because $25 pasta doesn't come with bread. At least ours didn't. 3. If you want to spend stupid money on dinner to impress a date or client, you're better off going to elsewhere. You'll look like a fool for taking them here. "A fool and his money are always parted" was meant for Giovanni Ristorante. NEVER EVER EAT AT GIOVANNI RISTORANTE IN NASHVILLE!

Re: “Mama Mia's

There is nothing at all unique or special about this restaurant, except to say that one could find better food in a jar of Spaghetti-O's. The pasta was ordered al dente but came out slimy & soggy. The sauce was very sweet and tasted like it was prepared by a rank amateur. The amount of pasta served barely covered the bottom of the plate and the price for it all was ridiculous. When I stated I did not like the pasta and wished to just pay for the salad, I was charged $6.00. Needless to say I will not return to this place anytime soon. Full blame for this is poor management and certainly not Sicilian. The cooks in the rear all spoke Spanish. Not a pretty sight.

Re: “Nucci

Nucci’s Italian Ice and Gelato is located in Cool Springs shopping Center in 2000 Meridian Blvd., Suite 100 Franklin Tennessee. Nucci’s staff is rude, provides poor customer service and negative attitude towards other ethinicgroups non white. Steve and Connie Hovis are the owners, their sons, Ben and Jay, work full time and their daughters, Erin and Morgan, Upon entering the restaurant on Friday July 17, 2009 at 8:45pm parking was limited and owner Connie Hovis did not provide adequate customer service tonight by acknowledging three customers order and never asking may I help you. I politely interrupted the Connie Hovis while the son (ignored my presence as a customer as well and asked 2 other customers for help) and stated I was next she tried to ignore my comment and then asked can I help you. Normally I would have thought this was an error or oversight but Steve Hovis (owner) also displayed this same negative and discriminatory behavior in May 2009. I have lived in Cool Springs over 13 years and rarely see restaurants who provide negative customer service survive!! My family was a standard customer at Nucci’s – we even looked forward to the daily Gelato specials. After tonight the racists attitude by the owners and family needed to be provided in reviews for future patrons. The menu is limited and the prices are high considering Baskin Robbins, Maggie Moos, Coldstone and Dipping Dots with in a mile radius of Cool Springs. Portions are tight and staff will try to use old products or take shortcuts in preparation. Maybe this small family owned business can grow from this negative experience and become more diverse to other elasticities trying to support their business within Cool Springs.

Re: “Sole Mio

Nice atmosphere, but that's about it. Rude waitstaff (our large group was automatically gratuitized, so maybe that's why?). Our waiter spilled my glass of wine and I had to ask him to replace it for free (he wanted to charge us). One rude look later, he did eventually bring a new glass on the house. I also ordered the 3 course special. Our waiter instead ticketed the first 2 courses a la carte, which was, of course, more expensive. He tried to charge for the 3rd course, but I just declined the dessert. The food was bland, and more expensive than most Italian restaurants in Nashville. Mama Mia's is much better. Avoid this place.

Re: “Giovanni Ristorante

My wife and I went to Giovanni’s for Valentine’s Day. As we were looking over the menu we heard what appeared to be a manager and a customer having an unusually loud disagreement. The dispute relocated close to the front where we heard the customer was upset by something the waiter had said to his wife. Some strong language was used and the customer soon left. We though it was odd, perhaps a misunderstanding but I am sure it didn’t make it any better for the couple that left. On the meal, the appetizer, lobster, was tough. As was my steak, but my wife’s halibut was fantastic. I can say that was one of the best I have ever had. We finished our desert, which we did enjoy as well and then the check came. My wife used her credit card to pay for the meal. When our waiter returned with the card, he apparently noticed her name, and made an insulting comment about it. We were both very upset and quite surprised with what he said. Certainly the tip on our $220 meal fell significantly. We did think it was a rare occasion to see the disagreement that occurred when we first arrived. But to have what happened to us on the same night gave us a very bad feeling about Giovanni’s. On our way out we did explain what happened. We did get an apology, but that really didn’t fix anything. For the money we spent the food quality just wasn’t there. But adding being offended by our waiter to the experience was way over the top. We will not be returning.

Re: “Giovanni Ristorante

Giovanni's is a Tuscan style restaurant that is located between SouthStreet and Boundry. I was excited to go out to dinner for the evening with a group of girlfriends. This was supposed to be a relaxing and enjoyable evening which turned out to be a disaster. The services was terrible to say the least. We ordered drinks upon arriving and did not receive them for at least 30 minutes. We did not get a menu for another 45 minutes. We could not determine who our waiter was and when someone would come to the talbe to take an order they would interrupt and tell us they had to go attend to another table. To top the evening off we had a friend who had an allergic reaction to the food and the response we received from the staff was unacceptable. I was disappointed all around with the entire evening. The food was decent but way over priced.

Re: “Caesar's Ristorante Italiano [Closed]

I only give this a one star for each category, because the site won't permit a lower rating. My wife and I had the worst meal of our lives, EVER, at Caeser's. A can of cold Chef Boy-ar-dee would have been better presented and tasted better than anything that was served. From stale bread, to limpid salad, to completely inedible entrees, the entire meal was horrible. Service (or lack thereof) topped the evening's repast. Having travelled the globe and eaten at third world locales where even sanitation is unknown, I could only wish that we were eating at one of those locales instead of Caesar's.
