We bought groupons and started off with the fish sandwiches and bbq. The fish was dried out and chewy and the bbq was far from fall of the bone. I was not impressed with the building itself but sometimes you get those "hole in the walls" and usually the food is pretty good. In this case the food was bad and so was the customer service. I will never buy another groupon for this place or personally support them.
Not sure which BBQ place the other reviewer went to but it definitely wasn't rippy's... Service was horrible, I felt like I was imposing on the staff to ask for a refill on my flat soda. I had to drink soda because the beer they brought me was warm. Ribs were dried out and a big let down considering they boast to have the best in Nashville. I never write negative reviews but had to on this one. Open for other suggestions!
Got a groupon for this place.... got bbq plate w/ beans and slaw... my beans had a hair them....right from the start. Slaw wasn't all that good either. It was hot in the dining room, and the tables felt greasy to the touch, and it smelled dirty in there too. Not mention this place is in the GHETTO !!
I have only been here once, but man was it good! The meat was so tender, the mac and cheese was to die for, and the employees were very friendly! I can't wait to go back!!
Get there while it's hot and before it's gone and it'll be the best smoked and pulled pork you have ever had in Nashville. I don't know how they do it, but they do it well.
Wow!! Best BBQ I have ever had. The pulled pork was perfectly smoked and tender, the coleslaw of a flawless consistency and the corn light bread a wonderful compliment to the food. My husband got the ribs and swears he'll never go anywhere else for a better execution AND DEAL; the mess O'greens so delicious you wouldn't know you were eating healthy! With Happy Hour prices that you can't beat offered all day, we will return whenever we crave some southern barbecue DONE RIGHT and cheap cold one to wash it all down :)
Stone House Q puts Hog Heaven, Jacks, Calhouns, Jim N' Nicks, Whitts, and Famous Daves COMBINED to shame! Thanks for becoming a new favorite!
This is my favorite BBQ place! They have everything you could ever want and the most amazing BBQ sauces. If you haven't been there, you need to check it out!
@Lee "My father ordered a steak..well-done." A true sign that you should stick to eating at home.
I love BBQ and I've tried most every place around here. This is not far from my office (Music Row), so we have gone there a few times for work.
First, if you don't know, Rooster is the guy that owns it (you'll usually see him walking around), and his brother is the one that owned Judge Beans (and has since sold it to some other guys, so the two no longer have a formal business relationship). The menu is similar to JB's in some respects (I get the brisket and chicken wraps at both places), but different in others. JB's clearly took the recipes and dishes and tinkered with it a bit. I like Rooster's brisket and chicken, but I'm shocked that they don't have pulled pork. Maybe it's a Texas thing. But, most of the main dishes are very tasty. I'm not a fan of their style of fries - very thick cut (I prefer thin and crispy instead of thick and soggy), but to each his own. I love the onion straws, really tasty.
The service has been up and down when we've been there. The staff is always friendly, but the food has not always been timely. The last two times our group has gone there for lunch, our orders have taken around/at least 30 minutes to come out, no exaggeration. In one case we had afternoon meetings and told them we would have to leave if it didn't get there soon, which it did. But, then this happened the next time we went. Anything past 10 minutes is stretching it, and this went way over the line. But, other times the food has come out in plenty of time.
I would love to try their steaks, but they are WAY too expensive for a BBQ place that is serving steaks. Or maybe my expectations are too low. If I'm going to drop $30 on a dinner entree, I expect a real plate (not styrofoam) and real utensils (maybe they give you metal ones with the steaks, I don't know, but most times you just get plastic). Maybe it's good, but I haven't gotten brave enough to risk wasting the money.
If I were going to change anything about the place I'd make the service more consistent, add pulled pork to the menu, and make their fries smaller/crisper.
When big Al is cookin' you can't find better ribs anywhere!
The newly remodeled facility, Large screen TV, Excellent Staff and Service was all so pleasant. But to TOP it off. I saw a young lady at work with a plate overlapping to the brim with delicious looking food that smelled fantastic. Everyone was OOOOO ing and AWWWW ing at work. My husband grew up in the surroundings and was very familiar after informing him of about the young lady's plate and Mary's BBQ. We visited last night. Oh my - there is not a word to describe their food. (i.e. One fish sandwich held 4 fish on 2 slices of bread with 1/2 plate of fries) (i.e. cobbler to die for) (i.e. Ribs, Turnip Greens & corncakes are perfectly seasoned) It is UMMMM UMMMM GOOD!!!!!!! Delicious!!!! Worth every penny. Monies worth........Not too expensive at all. They cook like Soulfood grandmothers and serve you UP!!! I commend this restaurant 100% I felt comfortable in the newly remodeled facility. Thank you for such a wonderful experience. AND we will be back as regular customers. Ant & ACE Ewing.
The absolute BEST barbecue and BEST service on music row. The musical talent featured is remarkable as well. HIGHLY recommended!
Good while it lasted...farewell Jimmy Carl's! Gonna miss your lovely ribs. Hope you return soon.
Simply the best BBQ anywhere!
i was dying to try this spot, as i was just craving some real deal barbeque. so, i drove on down to this spot and made my order. i'll try and be brief.
i could write about 5 paragraphs, but let me just encapsulate, and save you some time: first off, it was way expensive for 'neighborhood barbecue'.
a half slab of ribs, a fried catfish sandwhich, and 3 very CHINCY dixie cup size sides (beans, potato salad, and corn bread), was $26.73...OUCH!!
before leaving, i looked in to the bag and went over my order with the lady, to make sure everything was in the bag, but somehow, when i got home, i realized she forgot to put the barbecue sauce in with the ribs. no sauce? OUCH!!
i actually had to go out again to Kroger and get some. no excuse for this oversight. OUCH!!
my girlfriend said that good ribs should be 'fall-off-the-bone tender', but these were far from it. i had the fried catfishfish sandwhich, which was fair, a portion more than i could eat...but without the pickles and hotsauce, it was like eating two pieces of cornmeal-dipped cardboard on wonder bread.
bottom line: WAY TOO MUCH MONEY FOR SUCH AN EXPERIENCE. for this price, you could share appetizers at J. Alexander's. Or stuff your faces at Las Palmas, and have money left over toward a movie...
forget it...
very average BBQ. The nachos are good, albeit a rip from the Memphis joints. Bynum's BBQ in Memphis has the best BBQ potatoes. but the bottom line is that the meat is average and I cannot get past my intro to the original Jim n Nicks in BHM years ago...they served me a sliced pork sandwich - the horror!
The bbq and ribs are fantastic here, and everything (literally everything) is homemade. My favorite thing I've gotten has to be the bbq nachos on the appetizer menu, but the ribs are a close runner-up. The cheese biscuits are absolutely wonderful, and they're always fresh out of the oven. The sweet tea and lemonade are both very good, and all the drinks are served with crushed ice (which is awesome). The homemade desserts are great, especially the pecan pie - probably the best pecan pie I've ever had (and I've had some good pecan pie). They also have giant baked potatos with your choice of bbq meats, cheese, sour cream, butter, and bacon on top which are more than enough for a meal by themselves. The onion ring appetizer is extremely good - they're crunchy and hot, with a perfect proportion of onion and batter. Jim 'N' Nick's is one of my favorite places to eat.
Re: “Rippy's Smokin' Bar & Grill”
BEST BBQ!! We love this place. We drive from Toney AL to eat at this place.
