Re: “Peg Leg Porker

Peg Leg Porker has been on my to-do list ever since returning to Nashville. It's only a short drive from my office, making it the perfect choice for lunch.

Peg Leg's building is a great setup for barbecue, complete with traditional counter-service ordering. The friendly ladies working the counter were lighthearted and very welcoming. They have tons of awards displayed very prominently in glass cases, as well they should. In the back is a well-stocked bar, which looked like a great option for happy hour.

With no multi-meat combos on the menu (or beef for that matter), I was torn between ribs and pulled pork. In the end, I went with a Pulled Pork Platter and decided to save the ribs for another time when I wasn't wearing a shirt and tie. For my sides, I picked potato salad and smoked green beans.

The skins mixed into the potato salad added a good texture to the mayonnaise base. There was just the right amount of salt and pepper, giving the potato salad a nice mild flavor. The big flat green beans were also a great side dish. I could definitely taste the black pepper here, and bacon always makes things better.

I'm not usually a huge fan of pulled pork, but this looked amazing! There were beautiful pieces of black bark and red smoke-kissed bits scattered throughout. The pork had a delicious smokiness from the first bite all the way through to the last, and it was also incredibly tender. The forkfuls of bark were by far my favorite, especially the juicy, well-rendered fat. No sauce was needed here whatsoever. If all pulled pork was like this, I'd definitely eat it more often.

This was certainly enough food to fill me up, but there was no way I could pass on a peach fried pie for dessert. The sugary glaze drizzled on top was quite enticing. To my delight, the pie was fresh and warmed. Their flaky crust and gooey peach filling were perfect together, and the cinnamon spice made things even better. This was a fantastic end to a fantastic lunch.

I can't wait to come back to Peg Leg Porker and try the ribs!

Re: “Thai Esane

Thai Esane is shockingly delicious. The flavors are amazingly complex, the food is beautiful and fresh, and every single staff person with whom we have dealt has been beyond courteous. It's not the fastest place to eat sometimes, but that's what happens when a restaurant cooks and serves real food. We probably eat Thai Esane once a week. Husband and I have been there for date night but we also have taken our 2 young daughters and found it to be equally friendly in both scenarios. Thank you Thai Esane for delivering - SO glad we live within the magic 3 mile radius.

Re: “Field House

The Whiskey Tasting was fun. I'd never been to this bar before this but I'd like to go to their next one. I think they do one every month.

Re: “Field House

The Pig on a Cow Burger blew me away! It was an 8oz BBQ burger loaded with pork...what?!?
The place is spacious with TV's everywhere. The staff is laid back and friendly. I like that it's non-smoking and has Golden Tee! I think this is my new Sports Bar.

Re: “Cinco de Mayo

My husband and I come here on a very regular basis. We love it! The service is always nice and attentive, and never have we had an issue with a bug or a hair. I would absolutely recommend this place and other locations to friends and foes. As "Stephanie" put it. lol. I recommend you give it a try and if you find a hair (I find mine all over the place) give them a chance to make it right. Do yourself a favor and have a great time all the time here.

Re: “Commodore Lounge

Home base for a some of Nashville's biggest, best and/or newest songwriters. I like that six out of seven nights a week, established and newbie writers can also sign up to perform there after the scheduled sets. I've seen and heard a lot of great performances there! Also great food, free parking and no cover charge--cool deal!

Re: “Bobby's Idle hour

This is the home-boy (and girl), not-on-the-tourist-maps songwriter dive bar to end all dive bars. People don't come here to impress, they come for the original music (no cover tunes allowed) and fun...not unlike a Nashville version of Cheers, only it's right on Music Row. You never know what industry professional who may work or record nearby might wander in and even get on stage, day or night. This place has a history like no other in Nashville, even the Bluebird. Now that there's no smoking, it's even friendlier to a larger base of fans. Strongly recommended if you're into substance over glitter.

Re: “Pappy's Mobile Cafe

I hired Pappy's for an event recently. I must say, they are fantastic to deal with. They show up on time and prepared. Their truck is new, clean and not a beaten up junker - no worries about eating food from them or worry about getting sick. They are easy to contact and respond quickly. They are very nice people too. It was good speaking with you both!

Foodwise, Pappys is awesome. The combinations they put together are both unique and delicious! Everyone at my event LOVED them - including me. I will hire them for any other event I do. The portions are big, prices are not startling, and service is great. So, simply put, take a look at their menu - everything is good.

Take care!

Re: “Salsa Puerto Rican and Latin Cuisine

Incredible cuisine and and even better atmosphere. The live music was impressive, and a welcome respite from the usual Nashville honky tonk, vanilla noise.

Re: “Norman Couser's Country Cookin'

Norman Couser's restaurant provides true homemade southern food. The restaurant has been in Nashville for over 30+. Also, it sits directly across from the Nashville Zoo (which is a plus). This restaurant is certainly where the locals go - the staff knows their customers by name and I laughed that some customers have particular tables they go sit at. It appears that Couser's does mostly to-go orders for locals as well. The inside isn't anything fancy or spectacular, but the restaurant is a classic meat-n-three. I highly recommend trying the turkey & dressing, country-fried steak, mashed potatoes, or fried okra. For dessert, their chocolate pie and cherry cobbler are delicious! I do not go there for the decor, but instead, for fantastic homemade dishes and friendly staff. They treat you like family.
