Re: “Joe's Place

I like this bar. It hasn't really changed that much unlike the rest of Green Hills and I love that. I grew up in this area and I'm sick of all the new changes to EVERYTHING but this is a nice escape from all of that. I actually went to highschool with one of the main bartenders so I usually see old friends of mine there. You can smoke inside, the food is great and I do enjoy the karaoke nights (I don't sing but I like watching) :)
*not expensive, quick service, friendly people

Re: “Brown's Diner

People don't think of it as a music venue. On the first Saturday of most months a band called The Limitations plays there, very clever and funny. Eclectic writers and musicians fire up on various evenings and sometimes stars show up. The place has a good sense of humor.
Music writers hang out there and can be very interesting sitting at the bar.
Eat a burger made by Rocco, a great American. One draft tap, Bud Heavy. When I'm in the hood by my lonesome and feeling adrift that's where I go. I might even take some friends with me.

Re: “Acme Feed & Seed

This is the best place to hang out and eat fabulous food, served by the most friendly staff, and see great music. And the tap brews can't be beat. Love Love Love this place!! Come hungry for to-die-for shrimp & grits, and the coconut curried chick peas are the bomb.

Re: “Lipstick Lounge

Everyone is welcome here. The weekend brunch is wonderful and the bloody Mary menu cannot be topped. I consider myself a burger expert and I give the fresh hand patted burger to be the best of any bar and tops most restaurant burgers.

Re: “Café Bosna

If your looking for a fancy restaurant with flamboyant surroundings, this is not the place for you. However, if you want great authentic food all prepared by one amazing authentic chef for low prices, than this is a place for you. I don't know her name, but I do know that the one owner is the one chef that prepares each and every dish. She often also serves the tables. She can make this happen by preparing each dish before hand in a modest kitchen and placing them in a refrigerator. She then warms them in a microwave and serves. Doesn't great, but it is...very very great.

Re: “The Vine

The Vine is our new favorite restaurant in Nashville. We sat on the patio and enjoyed a great sunset and view of the city while enjoying flights of wine. What a deal to have three glasses of wine for what I usually pay for one glass of good wine. Service was top notch but the food was out of this world and full of flavor. All 4 of us agreed it was the best meal we have enjoyed in the city since we moved here 3 years ago from Chicago. The desserts were amazing as well. I am still thinking about that apple dessert we had.....

Re: “Smoker's Abbey

Great local shop with a solid selection of cigars and a relaxed atmosphere. The employees here are excellent at recommending the right cigar. There's a reason these guys were voted Best Cigar Shop in the 2014 Scene Best of Nashville poll.

Re: “The Row

My husband and I bumped into this eatery by happenstance...but so glad we did!! The Row burger is a "burst of yumminess" on the tongue....and the bbq is not your "Red Neck norm"!! I also adore the cozy Country Music historical theme....paying homage to the folks that put Nashville on the map!! And then....(there's more!).... , besides the cozy corrals, there is also separate group dining....AND....(more!more!more!)...THEY HAVE LIVE ENTERTAINMENT in an even LARGER AREA!! Can't wait to bring a group!! Can't wait to visit on LIVE NIGHTS!! Can't wait to try everything on the menu!! Did I mention that the Brownie & ice cream are delivered on the gosh-darn cutest castiron guitar I've never seen!! Ya'll will love it!! :)

Re: “Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint

The smell of delicious pit smoke caught my attention before I'd even set foot outside my truck. This was a good sign. In true "barbecue joint" fashion, Martin's has a really lively and fun atmosphere. I don't think they could have possibly stuck more crap on the walls, although it didn't really feel that junky. I was tempted to make use of their great outdoor patio space, but it was far too hot and muggy for that today.

My eyes immediately zeroed in on the Big Momma Sampler, which the menu says feeds two people. That sounded like more of a challenge than a suggestion, and I was up for it. The Big Momma comes with four ribs, a quarter-pound of pulled pork, and a quarter-pound of brisket, as well as two sides. Hushpuppies were a no brainer, and for some bizarre reason I picked broccoli salad as my second side dish...on purpose.

The broccoli salad was pleasantly sweet, with a good tartness from the cranberries. Pine nuts were a welcome addition in terms of texture. I was also glad to see that the broccoli wasn't overrun with mayonnaise. The hushpuppies definitely looked homemade. They were crisp on the outside with an amazingly fluffy center. Each bite had the right amount of seasoning, too.

As a native Texan, I instinctively went for the brisket first. It had a nice dark crust and a beautiful smoke ring to match. There was also plenty of smoky flavor to go around, though the bark was especially good. A simple rub was all that was needed to enhance the natural beefiness. My slices were lean, but by no means dry.

There were smoke-kissed bits scattered throughout the huge pile of pulled pork. I also found a fair amount of black pepper mixed in, with a decent smoke level to boot. The pork was very tender, but the fattier portions were definitely my favorite. I considered adding some sauce for fun, though it didn't really need it.

I generally leave my ribs for last during barbecue outings, which was difficult since these looked incredible. The third-rack cut apart with ease, but still had just the right amount of bone retention. The juicy rib meat was beautifully pink and was definitely the smokiest of the three. While the ribs were great on their own, the awesome dry rub took things to a whole other level. It added some nice heat, too.

Martin's met, nay exceeded, every expectation that I had.

Re: “B.B. King's Blues Club

Incredible weekend during CMA Fest to check out something other than CMA Events. Went Friday night to see Tom Wurth, Tony Coleman and The Experience. WOW! Interesting to find out that Tony and Stanley Abernathy (drums and trumpet respectively) played for BB for years! Tom Wurth is a soulful country, Grammy nominated artist. Amazing voice! The guys were as nice off stage as they were talented on stage. It was great to get to meet them as well as hear them play great standards as well as their own material. As for the food and atmosphere, with all the rush rush during CMA Fest, it was nice to kick back, even with a HUGE crowd, in a place that is inviting. I had the Shrimp Caeser Salad and it was wonderful! Later, after drinks, we had a snack of their sliders and some fried pickles. First time I ever had fried pickles was a BB's in Memphis years ago! Good stuff! Part of the fun was meeting the wait staff that are hard-working musicians too. We checked out one of their pages and looks like a budding talent.
