Classic smokey Memphis-style bbq in the original location of the iconic Nashville eatery. They didn't get this big with lousy service and so-so bbq. You know it's going to be good! But what sets it apart, other than the sexy sign? For me, it's the variety. I had pork bbq on cornbread - two big corncakes (like pancakes) and that was a new one on me. Yum! They also have great value meals - the daily special for 5 bucks, or a meat and potatoes dinner for 3 bucks. Plus tons of sides to choose from. And they serve breakfast made-to-order! Service is friendly and speedy, tables are clean and stocked with four sauce choices. If you live in Nashville, I know it's on your to-do list. Check it off soon!
I returned to South Street after several years to only to be severely disappointed by the food we ordered.. My parents were visiting from out of town so I wanted to treat them to a "Nashville favorite" and it was anything but that.. Three of us ordered the pumped chicken and it was so dry that after several bites we were all finished. I don't remember the pumped chicken being so unappetizing in the past..My father ordered a steak..well-done. When it came, it very rare, almost raw, and he said that it was the worst steak he had ever had. It was so tough that it was hard to cut. The manager was kind enough to take it off the bill since it took a while to re-cook the meat. Overall, the service was very good and they did try very hard to please...I only hope that this night was an exception. We would hate to end our visits to South Street.

Today was our first visit to South Street. We were craving one of our favorite meals; raw oysters and beer. Acme in New Orleans and Goatfeathers in South Walton were out of the question. The service at South Street was well above average. David, our waiter, had good suggestions, and seemed to show up at just the right time. The oysters were delecious. We had three dozen, and would rate them close to any we've had anywhere. Our rating is only 4 because this was our first visit to South Street; if our next visit is as enjoyable, it'll be a solid 5.

I love everything on the menu. The meat is tender & smoked just right. The fish snadwich is a meal for two. Be very hungary, you get a lot.

Re: “Neely's Bar-B-Que”
Expensive for bbq and not that good. This place is now a tourist attraction due to the Neely's being on Food Network.. Do not waste your time if you are local and want good bbq. Go to Martin's in Nolensville. It is worth the drive.
