Re: “Difference of Opinion at Weekly Open Thread

What? For $$$$ restaurants, I would put Capitol Grille and Catbird Seat way above those 2 listed. Flummoxed I am.

Just met Andy the other day. He seems to be a nice guy committed to sustainability in the coffee, food and decor he has at his shop. All of it is right down my alley. Also, awesome for me, he is open 7 days per week, so I can go any day of the week!

Re: “Soy Teriyaki Bistro: This Week's Dining Review

I know, I want this place in my 'hood too. The Lee's and everyone else working there too greet me like I am family or friends. And, they do have a base of regulars because I would say 9 times out of 10, we see some friends there at dinner. The price is that of fast casual dining, so it isn't going to break the bank.

What kind of self-righteous asshole writes crap like this? Not everyone reduces music to social currency. These bands put on fucking *amazing* shows and just because something isn't for you doesn't mean its worthless. Go crawl back under a rock with your negative bullshit. Oh wait, you probably wouldn't recognize rock if it hit you in the face.

Re: “Having Babies Because You're Poor

"I will give you this much, gast. Your naked racism, your pervasive homophobia, your disgusting misogyny, your bootlicking corporatism, and your loyal adherence to any over-the-top right-wing hate speech is unrivaled in the ability to provoke the more sane posters on this site (which, pretty much, is everyone else) to indignant wrath. As long as you post, we can collectively understand what truly evil, anti-American, immoral and authoritarian horrors lie in a future in which the radical right wing/teabagger/wingnut fringe might actually take control. To that extent, you are performing a valuable service."

^ This. Thank you Perry Aubric for your succinct summation. I suppose gast really should be ignored. Up until now I've held the conviction that ignoring his ilk was more dangerous than confronting them. But, he's clearly proven himself to be a complete lunatic and probably should be pitied for his willful ignorance instead of pilloried. (Pitied or smothered in his sleep, I can't decide.) It is fun skewering him, but it's just too nauseating, too hopeless sometimes to stare into the abyss.

"He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you." - - Friedrich Nietzsche

I do find consolation in that he truly punishes himself each and every day by having cultivated this myopic, distorted, Fox News - fantasy world view. In the end, he's a sad, mean little person steeped in his own bile and fear. Poor people, (not the one percent) are trying to pick your pocket gast... BOO! (He just shit his pants a little and grabbed blindly for his pistol.)

Re: “Guard Dies in Riot at CCA Prison in Mississippi

As opposed to you, an ostrich? I brought in the subject because of the mention here of CCA detention facilities for illegal aliens. This is directly related to this initial post and the prison riot. We are talking about illegal aliens, directly. What are YOU talking about? Diversion and distraction? Business as usual? If we are bemoaning this privatization, then let's talk about funding more government-operated prisons. I showed you some theft and wasted tax dollars that could be used for such funding. If we secured our borders and enforced our immigration laws and demagnetized the country to illegal immigration, we wouldn't need so much detention space, now would we?

Don't smother in the sand.

Re: “Having Babies Because You're Poor

Sorry, gast, lifenews -- an anti-abortion wingnut site -- is even less credible than FOX or Limbaugh, and that's already pretty low level of drivel. The fact is, your claim is still a fucking lie, along the lines of birtherism.

Telling kids not to persecute their gay classmates and acknowledging that gays exist is not "gleeful promotion."

Re: “Guard Dies in Riot at CCA Prison in Mississippi

Donna: Regarding your above comment on tax fraud by illegal immigrants, doesn't this pale in comparison to corporate tax fraud (and legal corporate tax breaks)? Everyone gets that you really, really, really don't like illegal immigration. But when you use that hammer to solve every problem that looks like a nail, you simply look like an idiot. Not all the evils in the US, not most of them, not even a majority can be attributed to illegal immigration. Parroting the same thing over and over simply gives you the reasoning ability of, well, a parrot.

Wonder who'll get the contract? Oh, yeah. Same company that got it in Florida, Aegis. In case you don't know, Aegis is owned by David Black, husband to the illustrious US Rep. Diane Black.

@Perry Aubric: Once again you're wrong. Notice the source of the link - not Fox News - and date. Click and enjoy. Don't be shy. Put your little arrow on the red and click away. Sometimes profanity is useful to make a point, but your keyboard really has a potty-mouth which makes it more enjoyable to cite your errors.

@Prattlepuss: Again, you are a legend in your own mind. You've already reviewed my comments so think back, my comments sourced the bible to refudiate claims made by those seeking to use the teachings of Jesus to justify homosexual behavior. That's not hate unless you consider pointing out the truth as being hateful. My other comments were about sexual diseases and owning up to responsibility for them. For instance, is it hateful or factual to point out that one out of six gay men have AIDS/HIV which, as far as I can tell, they're not shy about sharing. Personally, I have no problem associating with homosexuals but I don't think their lifestyle should receive gleeful promotion, especially in our schools, and I don't think businesses should be sanctioned or bound by discrimination laws. Everybody wants the government out of their bedrooms but then, in an about face, some people demand the right to bring their bedrooms to work. Now what is your solution to the problems already caused and sure to be caused by fatherless children. Oh, that's right, you have none.

Re: “Haslam Signs Bill to Implement Suspicion-Based Drug-Testing for Welfare Applicants

Kosh, Perry, et. al: I can tell you have led sheltered lives. Straight cash assistance is only a minor part, probably the most minor, of our welfare-entitlement system, which includes both federal and state benefits and includes but is not limited to subsidized housing, government vouchers and food stamps for food, free/reduced school lunch, free/reduced year-round breakfast and evening meals served at school or community centers for both kids and their parents, free child care (this is a biggie my hard-working daughter wishes she could get in on instead of subsidizing it for others), free health care (ditto), utility-bill assistance, free pest control (I've seen this; no joke intended). And on and on and on.

I have members of my own extended family who have managed to get every freebie out there that you are forced to pay for, and they are not shy about telling it. These are not elderly or disabled people. A couple of them did not finish school, and had babies when they were 16. They were/are "eligible" for free educational assistance and work training and have used that but also have led comfortable lives on your dime with little or work involved for many years at a time. Some of you just have no idea, and you are no match for those who know how to play the system and who pass that knowledge and that value system to the next generation. In our family, the children of those parents did reject that value system and have very good jobs and get by, as far as I know, without welfare.

It is very expensive to raise children now. I am raising a heck of a lot of strangers' kids with money I'd like to give to my own children and grandchildren. My son and his wife, who have behaved responsibly and who have jobs and employer-based health insurance and are far from wealthy, are ineligible for any government help and paid more than $7,000 last year in uncovered medical expenses for their kids, both of whom have medical conditions.

Responsibility has to be its own reward in our society, because the spoils go to the irresponsible. Something is going to give (way), however, and it will be the middle class.

Re: “Having Babies Because You're Poor

gast - You quote the bible often enough to denigrate homosexuals. I know you've claimed to be Christian before. You dropped that nugget somewhere around the time we were arguing about the racist, misogynistic, elitist buttholes who are members of the BMCC. I remember it distinctly because you provided such a marvelous cudgel for me to bash you with. I have enjoyed that treat thoroughly. I'd sort through your comments to find the exact quotes but I'd have to be medicated to slog through that cesspool of sewage and bile to find it. You are by far the most hypocritical shit-ass I've encountered here.
I'm sure it comes as a shock to no one that you're use of Christianity to justify bullying homosexuals and castigating the poor is nothing more than a front for your feigned righteousness. Good luck with that on Judgement Day.
